TFV8 cloud beast RTA 2nd time wick and review

First i will say i am still new to vaping and this is the first time i have ever wicked and rta or rda

I say second, because the first time I tried it with the included cotton it was an epic fail. I put to much cotton then too little and it leaked like fuck all and I experienced what organic cotton taste like. I got up this morning and went to my local B&M and picked up some cotton sheets. I tried again this time with a little better success.

I am using the pre installed coils which ohm out at .27 ohms on my reuleaux 200s at 87 watts

I pulsed the coils till they glowed from center out evenly on both sides, which took some time strumming and pinching but was pretty easy to get there.

I took the cotton sheet and pulled the top and bottom layer off as i had seen in how to videos which worked perfect for the size coils that the tfv8 comes installed with. They appear to be around 3mm wraps.

I rolled up and slightly twisted the ends and fed them through the coils.I noticed a ever so slight tugging on the coils so figured that was probably the right amount of cotton.
I then, I dont want to say tucked but puleld the cotton working from the bottom up into the juce well holes




I then saturated and fired the coil making sure the cotton was fully saturated and the well was full and put the tank back together

I closed off the air and filled the tank. Again it leaked like fuck all. but only for the first couple pulls and stopped leaking after that not sure why?

so here is what I think. and what i take away.
if you are one of those people who like to puff the air out before taking a pull your going to shoot juice out the air vents or at least that was my experience. the clapton coils that come included take a second to ramp up so puffing out is not going to work, I just pulse the coil take a small vape then fire again and take a normal pull

This thing pops and sputters at 90 watts but it doesn't hit your lips or anything

the flavor is not great on this build. in fact you really only get a hint of flavor and i found if i go over 100 watts i start getting dry hits with ethos rice crispy 70 vg juice (this could be my wicking though)

so to be honest maybe with better coils this deck might be something but to me I think the t8 and v4 coils taste better even if you can only get about 5 - 8 days out them.

You must have wicked them wrong to only be getting 100 watts out of them, mine happily go to 140w and theres a few videos of people going well above that.

matp75 remove one wrap on each coil and when wicking leave a slight gap between the 2 wicks. I've found this is the best way and i've just tried em at 180w and they still wick happily.

Personally, voltage and wattage contributes on how I wick and I'll wick accordingly. I'll ask myself: Is this going to be my 50-60 watt or my 80-90 watt vape? Sub ohm or series? Is this build going to be my adv or my cloudy one? Is this build for my creme's, bakery's, or my fruit's? PG/VG also. Lots to consider. Lots to play around with. But with any atomizer; big, small, RDAs, or RTAs (TFV8), you get the best results finding that happy medium. Not too much, not too little. Too much, dry hit. Too little, flooding. Each and every atomizer is different but the more you build, use it, and get experience with it, that's the best way to learn and then you'll learn it's optimum wicking technique, it's a learning curve. It's what makes vaping fun for me, like a science experiment, especially when I get new gear and test it's limits, that's my favorite. Good luck. 3mm is great for claptons or juice thirsty coils at high wattages. It isn't necessary for simple kanthal micro/macro coils, IMO. 2.5mm works perfectly for those, superb flavor and vapor. I'll use a 3mm when vaping at over 80+ watts or with fancier coils so that the juice can keep saturated and so my cotton won't burn as fast. But, there's no real difference, other than it might seem easier to stick your wick in and re-wick.

EDIT: I'm jelly about your steam engine. Trying to get my manager to carry those in our shop. I should be getting mine sometime this week. Not much of a tank user but I used a friends that stopped by and I enjoyed it. They're cheap AF too.

IMO the Tsunami is way over rated, X1 is a better performer and better flavor.

The secret is getting the best flavor, the baddest clouds with the least amount of watts...... These (2) coils ohm at .15 but with (3) Kanthal cores and exterior ni80 they Ramp up fast and the clouds at 48 watts are flavorful and amazing thickness..

ultrasonic cleaner is a good investment. around 15 bucks on amazon. outside of that i prefer white vinegar with a little salt. mix it together and let it soak for about 30 mins. then rinse off in warm water. makes it look shiny like new

IMO the Tsunami is way over rated, X1 is a better performer and better flavor.

cool i have a couple utra sonic cleaners. i was more concerned with getting it un-germy its like brand new guy only put a couple builds on it

Alcohol is fine too. I prefer white vinegar it's an amazing cleaning product to disinfect

Yep and I still do for a 22mm, the Hatty is a great RDA. It's just a bit harder to find these days and the X1 is still around and fairly easily available. VapeNW had a sale of the Hatty 'bout a month ago for $5 and damn it if I missed it. Would have loved to pick up another 3 or 4 for that price, it's a damn fine RDA.

The X1 though is a hell of a performer with flavor and I love how they include a copper positive post, I love copper positive posts.

I use my USC for deep cleaning and use Everclear for minor cleaning, rubbing alcohol is deadly which a lot of people use. Before Everclear I did use Monarch 100 proof Vodka, cheap. But Everclear is 190 proof so it dries very quickly.

If youre getting dry hits at over 100 W, and weak flavor in the 80s, your wicking is most likely packed too tightly. You should not have any issues with dry hits until 150W+ with those claptons in the TFV8 RBA. Pull the wicks out, and toss in new ones that are slightly thinner. Also, before you "tuck" the wicks down into the juice channels, take something with a fine sharp tip, and fluff out the cotton, strumming it from the inside out, i.e. start at the coil, and drag the point outwards, toward the tails of the cotton. Do this a few times all throughout the wick tail on both sides of each wick, then GENTLY tuck the cutton into the channels. This will help with wicking A LOT, and really prevent dry hits.
