Mod specific coils?

I'm finding I can do the exact same build on two similar mods and one is great and the other has a lot of ramp up time, my hybrid seems to be more suited to a single coil (3 post rda) and my floating pin works like champ with dual coils (center post has separate holes). Both mech. Single 18650. Is there a rule to this? Or should I just continue trial and error. Also, I think somebody should write a book.

In theory, the hybrid would ramp up faster with either build since there should be less voltage drop.

No Rule, with a mech, it's all about voltage drop as BKTOAD says. I run my Roundhouse copper with dual ss stapled claptons at .17, instant ramp up time. Same setup with Kanthal, it's a 1 sec ramp up. Hybrid is direct connection to the battery with its inherent risks, but better if you have an atty with a protruding 510 positive pin (1mm at least). Just make sure you are doing it safely.

Yes, I know you're right but what I had going on today defied that law somehow. Maybe I screwed right through a wire?

Luckily I read that at VU before I bought it (about protruding pin) just a coincidence. It was the atty made for it anyway, flawless tugboat with production atty. And it's funny, we never said "hybrid" at the shop. I liked it because it was shorter and fit better in the old flip phone case I use at work. How do you like a .17 setup? I'd have to get different batteries to try something like that.

First thing I would do before making assumptions is to take apart and clean the contacts of that one with slow ramp up time.

contacts, tubing give it a good top to bottom. if it can separate do so and clean.

I clean the contacts pretty often with rubbing alcohol along with the ends of the battery. Maybe I could do a better job when it's coil changing time
