Synergistic Flavor Combinations

I've been mixing for about a year now and am still exploring and discovering. I wanted to post a list of flavor pairings that seem to work synergistically togather. Obviously, these are all IMHO. Many flavors work well togather and/or round out a specific flavor. For example, my "Blueberry" flavor right now is actually a blend of FW, FA and TFA. There seems to be a subset of these that are amazing together, though not really related. They compliment and synergize each other completely, often easily able to be standalone in a recipe. Some of these have been discussed before on other threads, but I just wanted to get a few togather on the same post. Most of these can be morphed into any ejuice flavor category you please.

(TFA Dragon Fruit x CAP Double Apple)
I've tried DF with both of my other apples, one even being my favorite FA Fuji, but the slightly sour apple flavor of CAP's Double Apple compliments DF wonderfully. A similar feel to the TFA DF x TFA SR combo. Lots of top notes bouncing off each other. Great in any Cream or Custard recipe.

(FA Coconut x INWA Chemoya)
Chemoya is hard to nail down to one profile, it has 3-4 different sweet tropical fruit flavors, as well as a weird, almost coconut oil(?) type flavor/mouth feel. It lacks a good distinguishing top note though. FA Coconut is a great coconut flavor, but lacks any real depth and/or sweetness. Togather they fill in each of their gaps and even bounce off the obvious tropical theme. They can pretty much stand on their own. Astounding with some additional creams added.

(TFA Dragon Fruit x TFA Strawberry Ripe)
This is a clasic combo. Talked about much. Portions of DF & SR flavors are very similar and build on each other.Delicious!

(TFA Pear x TFA Strawberry Ripe)
This is a clasic combo
Super artificial/candy flavor combinations that doesn't taste like anything real, but creates a great fantasy flavor that's indescribable.

(INWA Shisha Straw. X CAP NY Cheesecake)
Shisha Straw. is a real sweet, potent with little to no top notes. NY Cheesecake is borderline too Cheesey. Ricotta to be specific. It's bad with most of my fruits, but paired with this Shisha Straw, same %, it all layers togather. The excessive, savory cheese is pushed way to the background, becomes a rich Cheesecake base note with a sweet straw. jam topping.

(FA Vienna Cream x FA Fresh Cream)
The only cream combo here as it is something special. Vienna Creams deep slightly spiced cream note with Fresh Cream's heavy dairy note just compliment each other out perfectly. I always use these togather, and every first pass at a my Creams, Boba Teas, Custards, Fruit & Creams or Bakery.

(INWA Raspberry x FA Lemon Sicily)
This Raz dances a fine line between the overtly dry, very high note versions like FA Ras. and the sweet, fuller versions like CAP Ras. Obviously a Raz Lemonade, but I've reduced the LS to faint backnotes and can roll this into any mix.

(INWA Raspberry x FA Fuji Apple)
I actually found this through the Rhodonite Recipe, thanks Wayne. In that recipe he pairs these two togather. I think he's using the Fuji as a sweetener, but for some reason I teased these two ingredients out and started experimenting. Again, lots of top notes, tart, pectiny and berryliscious.
Hope this helps someone.

Very nice....!!

Thanks for the write-up. Very useful way to think about it, looking at very popular recipes and figuring out why they work. What makes them click. I wonder how much this has to do with successful flavor pairing in general and how much is the actual chemistry of the particular brands involved.

Thanks for this post, great idea! I'm looking forward for more combinations!

At what percentages would you suggest mixing Dragon Fruit and Strawberry (ripe) / Pear and Strawberry (ripe)?

My comparison to how most people mix I think I run a bit lower %'s than most, so You might not want to copy my recipe percentage volume and just use my ratios.

Depending on the type of recipe I mix it in;
1 part DF, 3-to-4 parts SR. Or....
TFA DF 1%
TFA SR 3-4%

1 part P, 6-8 parts SR. Or...
TFA P .5%
TFA SR 3-4%

Oops sorry, I flip flopped those ratios In the verbiage. A little tired last night. I've edited for corrections. SR should be the higher %'s.

These are just a few I often find myself using together in a mix

NY Cheesecake and Sugar Cookie (Cap)
Meringue and Fresh Cream (FA)
Strawberry Ripe (TFA) and Sweet Strawberry (Cap)
Bilberry (FA) and Blueberry Wild (TFA)

TFA and Cap Strawberry is probably my favorite. I find them a bit one dimensional on their own but combined they are the ideal strawberry flavor for bakery or custard type mixes.
