TFV8 Big Baby RBA Cotton Flavor

Hey guys, I'm relatively new to vaping, but running into a little issue I was hoping you could help with. I have been doing a lot of reading, and everything I'm seeing is saying to go rebuildable for the best flavor, which makes sense. I as looking for a lot of flavor, but I still want pretty good vapor production as well.

All I have right now is the Baby Beast and the Big Baby in terms of tanks. Had some cotton burn out in a, X-4 coil in my Big Beast, and figured I would give the RBA a shot since I can change the wick out whenever I want. I haven't built any coils for it yet, partly because I don't have any wire yet, and partly because I am just now getting into rebuildable set ups, so I figured I should keep it simple and try it out with the factory coils that were installed when I received it.

Here's my problem. I went ahead a wicked it up last night. Primed the coils, let it sit for a couple minutes, filled the tank, gave it a few more minutes, and then went to vape it. This time, I had absolutely no flavor coming through. Vaped about half a tank, still nothing. Went to bed, and woke up with most of it leaked out, so based on what I was reading and watching before wicking it, I had figured I didn't use quite enough cotton.

Cleaned everything up at this point, pulled out the cotton from last night, cleaned the coils, and reworked it using more cotton this time. Now, I have no leaking issues, but I cannot get the flavor of cotton to go away. Been reading that this is normal break in of a new wick, but I have vaped nearly an entire tank out of it with the new wick, and still getting nothing but cotton flavor. Not even a hint of my liquid's flavor. I don't believe I have it packed too tight, as I haven't experienced any dry hits or burning of the cotton, but that flavor just will not go away.

I also did not boil my cotton before I wicked it. I have read both to boil it and not to boil it. Some say it opens up the possibility of bacteria growth in the cotton, some say that is not an issue as long as you get it dried well. I am using 100% pure organic cotton as well.

So any help here guys? Is it the factory coils, the wicking, not boiling the cotton, cotton source, anything?? Thanks in advance for any help! Been loving the forum the past few days while I just browse and learn! By far the most helpful resource I have found yet!

Also forgot to mention, I have tried everything between 10 and 120 watts. Coil is running .3 Ohms. usually running this coil between 45 and 50 watts. Also, is there a way to edit posts on this site? tried to edit my original post, but couldn't find the option.

Edit: NVM. Found edit.. lol

Try rayon, you probably won't taste anything, except your juice....I dislike cotton for the same reason as you, the taste.

For me, rayon is tasteless.

In reverse order:

is there a way to edit posts on this site?
In wee tiny red print there is the word edit beneath your post.
Click that, a new window will open (smaller) for you to edit.

I only use Cotton Bacon 2.0 because everything else I have tried produced no flavor.
Can't say that is definitely your problem but wanted to mention it.
You seem to have provided a lot of info but can you include a pic or two showing the build?
It may help determine any possible issues.

I'm using cotton candy and the only time I taste cotton is if I don't wick right and burn hit

3lbs!!! that is three lifetime supplies ain't it?
If I used that, I'd say it was a great deal.
I bought a box about a year ago, I think I still have 2.95 lbs left.....:giggle:

Or 495 feet......

Sure. Give me a few minutes and I'll get some uploaded.

As far as the rayon, I've read really good things in terms of flavor, and a few not so good things about health effects on here. Seemed as though cotton was exactly the same though in terms of health effects. Anything to be concerned about with that?

As far as the cotton being burnt, I do not see any burning on the cotton, and the cotton has been saturated well every time I check it. The flavor also isn't like when you burn the cotton out in a prebuilt atty. Not a terrible flavor, but not a good flavor either. Just taste like, well, cotton. Not saying that isn't the case though. You guys would be better than me at diagnosing these issues.

Rayon will not burn like cotton, you can use a wick for weeks, the ends will be black from burnt juice, but the portion of the wick in the coil will still be white.

Ok. So I took everything apart again to take some pics, and while I hadn't been burning any cotton at lower wattages(40-55), I did manage to burn it pretty good when I cranked it up to 120 right before I made the original post. Does this mean that it IS indeed packed too tightly? Based on what I'm seeing, I still shouldn't be burning it at 120, correct? Could it have been burning the cotton at lower wattages, but not enough to darken it, and then when I cranked it up burned it good enough to actually be visible? I did taste the typical burnt out flavor at 120, but just a plain cotton flavor at lower wattages before I ever tried it that high.

Here's the pics I got. Sorry they are a little blurry. My nice camera is in my shop at the moment, so I had to use my phone. I fried that cotton pretty good when I cranked it up, so do you guys think that too much is indeed the problem? They are still pretty saturated with liquid as well. Maybe not enough though?

Edit: Whoops. Kinda repetitive with those questions. Lol

You sure there isn't HOT spots in the coils?

Doesn't look like the coils are heating evenly.

The coils look like they could use more juice too.

They looked pretty even to me when I checked them before wicking, but I do see that the one side is more burnt as well. Maybe not quite even enough? They seemed to heat up pretty much exactly he same speed to my eyes though, and started in the center and worked it's way outward.

If you want to build coils then buy a rebuildable tank, you will have much better luck building on a Griffin or Supreme etc, get much better flavor and cloud production. Rba sections typically suck imo

That's what I have gathered in my readings as well, and is the plan in the very near future, but just wanted to try this one out before I went and dropped the money on one.

I have the rba deck installed in my big baby tank. The coils that came with the deck were horrible. I put in a pair of demon killer twisted quads, and have been enjoying the setup greatly. I take my alien and Griffin 25+ out with me, but at home my big baby is always at my side.

I should also add that building on the big baby rba is a royal pita. I have rather large hands, but I suspect even average sized mits will still struggle a bit with this deck. I am a novice when it comes to building though.
