Resistance Issues with SMOK Micro R2 deck

Hi all,

I've been using 3 separate Smok Micro tanks with the R2 rebuildable deck for about 6 months. I use all of them daily. I replaced the coils once or twice on each one (~.26 ohms) but started with the preinstalled coils. About a week ago tank #1 started getting erratic readings (on the mod) for resistance. It was gaining resistance and sometimes going way out there at like 1.0, 2.0, 5.0 etc. I took the tank apart and cleaned it as well as dry burned the coils, threw it back in and checked resistance (using mod) and it was reading again erratic...sometimes .5, then 4.0 etc.

I put the tank to the side thinking I'll figure this out later....then another tank had the exact same problems. I started thinking it was the mod but I tried it out on some other mods and got the same thing. After having to narrow my vaping down to a single tank instead of 3 I began to look at this issue closely today. For some reason I keep seeing too much resistance. I've tried the following;
-dry burned coils
-tightening screws from base to coil
-loosened screws then retightened hoping I'd get a better connection
-removed coils from deck, washed coils and screws (using oxy clean solution) then reinstall thinking some type of build up was causing bad connection
-cleaned 510 connection on both mod and tank with rubbing alcohol
-created new coils and installed

I'm hoping someone with more experience with vaping (I've only been vaping for 6 months now) and/or someone with more experience with these tanks can give some insight or help. I started out with Smok since that's the first device I bought (Stick One Plus) but have had some issues with them such as
-stick one plus battery DOA
- 2 decks seem to be broken based on the above
-G2 deck was burning plastic from the first time using it
-1 of 2 VW mods glitches and has to be restarted to work

Am I expecting too much from stuff made in china and need to understand that eventually my vape gear will break down and buying a new deck, even if it is rebuildable, every 6 months is part of the game? Or am I missing something that more experienced people have already been through? Should I try a different brand of gear?

This shouldn't have happened but the R2 decks are less than $10.
3fvape has them for $6.99
eciggity has the G2 for $7.99.
I use mine daily with no issues.
Granted I have about 9 of them so each one would get used less.
As for your Stick One, upgrade to the Alien and do away with internal battery concept.
Or if you're dead set on that, maybe try the Hohm Skillet.
They were recently on sale really low.

I've heard the delrin at the bottom of the deck is junk, causing shorts. The insulator (delrin) could be loose, melted, or both.

I want to rethink that, I may have been in the wrong mind set.
NO you should NOT have to buy new decks every 6 months.
They SHOULD last longer.
Other than the oxy clean part that concerns me it sounds like you've tried everything that I would have.
I can say that I haven't had any issues with ANY of my Smok products and I have quite a few.
That is of no help to your situation but should indicate not all of them are bad.
@inspects is correct and the insulator isn't of the best quality or thickness (due to space requirements) so maybe just having a few extra peek insulators would solve this.
However trying to find those.....it'd be easier to buy new decks.
Unfortunately I can't think of any real advice to provide but didn't want you to think that all Smok products are bad.

I have to agree with both of these guys. Alien is a good way to go. Smok also makes the Big Baby Breast tank. It comes with the build deck Ann's looks like a great tank. I'm thinking of buying one soon myself.

But seriously the TFV8 Beast, TFV8 Big baby Beast, and TFV8 Baby Beast are all great tanks.
The baby and big baby both use the same coils.

This maybe stupid of me to say but, have you made sure the coil is not touching anything causing the ohms to jump?

Yeah I've checked to make sure the coils weren't hitting. But wouldn't that decrease resistance because it would essentially make the coil "shorter"? I did notice one of my cuts to the end of one of the coils created a type of "flashing" if you will....a tiny piece of the coil due to cutting it with wire cutters and I thought that was the only part of the coil making contact. (I hope I'm describing that well??) To me this made sense since the small surface area of contact could cause the erratic readings I was getting. I made sure all ends of the coil were cut flat with no hanging material but that didn't change any of the issues.

I planned on sticking with the Smok Micro tanks because I thought I could rebuild them indefinitely and was planning for Vaporgeddon when the FDA will not allow us to continue to get these parts anymore. I bought extra o rings, spare glass and the top fill sealing pad etc for these types.

Also I only went with the Stick Ones because for the price of getting a throw away (i.e.recycle) battery and the tank I just couldn't say no. I have 3 Stick Ones and 2 R-Steams

p.s. thanks for replies and advice

I also bought a couple of their G2 and G4 tanks/decks (one each) and had a burning plastic smell from the G2. The G4 was a PITA to wick. I also got a mini TFV4 (used) that didn't seem to do much as far as vapor..... it hasn't been easy for me to break into this and kinda frustrating :-s

Sorry I couldn't be more help :( I have the Smok Micro but have only used the single coil rba deck so far & no issues.

Does anyone know which o-ring is replaced by the one that comes in the package? There's two on the coil, one on the top of the threads and another that I believe separate positive form negative (separates the threaded portion from the center portion which I assume is pos/neg)
