Where I go wrong

I have been doing diy for about 4 years. I use nude nicotine nic 100mg/ml 100%vg. I usually order pg and vg from them also. Recently I have realized a few things that might be obvious to some and maybe not for others. Opinions on what you do to avoid these circumstances would help me and others improve their diy experience and ability.

Nic usage. 100mg/ml 120ml lasts around 1 year. How do you preserve it with taking it from the freeze every few weeks and putting it back. My experience is it oxidizes around 6-8 months worsening rapidly.

Mixing. I mix into 15ml bottles. Make 3 different 15ml flavors. One bottle lasts a week. Problem here is i make it and don't mess with it till I make the flavor again. What i am starting to do is make one flavor 15ml and then make it again the next round with changes until I get it right. The other two are either my adv or other experiments. What size batches do you make? How do you adjust to make it perfect?

Steeping. I usually use a warm water bath shaking every 15 minutes until water is cool repeat 3 times. Then remove cap and let breathe in cabinet for 4-6 hours. Replace cap and let sit until use. Typically minimum of a week maximum 4-5 weeks. How do you steep?

Flavorings. I use nn, tfa/tpa, and fa. They sit at room temperature in a box. I have noticed the tfa/tpa is better sitting like this as the flavors seem to blend better. Nn is great at first then if not used in about 6months seem to loose flavor quickly. Fa I have not had any luck with. I know they asked supposed to be strong but it seems like they don't mix well or my steeping is flawed. How do you store your flavorings?

Venting with cap off only helps a bit with heavy alcohol based flavors IMO.

Buying smaller sized bottles may help.

FA brand has been hit and miss for me also, but...
Marshmallow, Meringue, Cookie, Fuji Apple, Condensed Milk, & Jamaican Rum, to mention a few, I really like.

You should also try some CAP & INW flavors, some are very good.

Keeping your nic in the freezer, keeping your mixed juice in the fridge, and avoiding heating the nic at any point, will maximize your avoiding peppery nic.

When I've got about a month's worth left...I make more.

So it's gonna get 3-4 weeks of steep time, which is what it needs (in big bottles - 2 weeks is good in smaller bottles).
During that time, I'll shake a few times, and perhaps open and let air in/out once.

I keep one in the refrigerator freezer which I fill an amber glass 30 ml bottle as needed and keep in the refrigerated section.

Otherwise it sits, closed, in a box, in a tote, in the closet, with witch spells and voodoo magic to guard it. Hasn't failed me yet.

So what's a little peppery-pepper betwixt friends?

Also, yeah, CAP has some great stuff. Same with Flavorah, I've rapidly become quite the Flavorah fan. Inawera makes some fine tobaccos as well. My flavorings all sit on a new handy-dandy cosmetic shelf I received as a Christmas present this year - long gone are the days of ziplock baggies and musty smelling rubbermaid totes.

I have read this... well 4 years or so ago. I always read people buying liters of nic a breaking them down to smaller bottles. It really never occurred to me to break down the 120ml bottles I buy. Again obvious to some but i never thought about that thank you.

I will try not taking the cap off. That probably speeds up the oxidizing after mixing. I am curious which flavorings use alcohol if any? I agree with the fa flavors you like with the addition of the cocoa and the Vienna cream. They both work well the fruits and nuts seem difficult to nail down.
Is there a place that has sample packs for cap and inw. I like how tpa gives you flavor line packs. This kinda gives you an array to try and expand on. When I started diy I was worried about custard notes so I switched from tpa to fa and now back to tpa.

I never heated it although I was tempted to. I would get my recipes together write down my weights needed. Grab my bottles dispense nicotine to all three and return it to the freezer. It is hard to work with that way but I was on a low or no pg kick thinking I had a pg allergy but it turns out it was a lack of hydration.
I will dispense it into smaller bottles and use one at a time returning it to the freezer but the pg should make it easier to work with.

300 ml batches... umm wow I am afraid to make more than 60 for fear of the flavor changing or making a mistake. How many flavors do you mix at a time? Do you have many flavors you like that you make 300ml at a shot? This is for my own curiosity.

Do you have any flavoring recommendations from cap flavorah or inw. I have migrated away from tobacco but when I am in the mood I grab a nn tobacco and mix with fa Carmel. I have migrated towards fruits and creams. For some reason they curb my munchies also. (I work in an office and picked up and bad habit of munching since I quit the stinkies) I am hesitant to try new flavors without recommendations because well... i have spent way too much on eliquid (when I bought) and flavorings that weren't vapable.

ohh I have about 100 flavorings. Most I have not tried yet.

I just pull out the ones I need for a mix and an hour later use them and then put them back.
I do keep some of my ADV flavorings out. I also have some in the freezer. Will pull some out in a few months and test it out.. Should not hurt it though.

I mostly vape tobaccos, MTL with high-nic, so that's the end of the spectrum where my preferences stick.

Capella's has a fairly decent Pineapple, top of my head. Cranberry is good, Honeydew isn't the best but I prefer it compared to TFA. Peaches & Cream is delicious, especially with a smidge of FA White Peach and some creams. They also have Cereal #27, which is a base "oat-y" cereal without any fruit notes or creams - compliments some tobaccos nicely, otherwise good for making up your own cereal-based vapes. But the "oat-y" notes work well with tobaccos, I find, if you go light.

Flavorah's got the best, most unique peanut butter I've found. Not sweet, not "candy" PB - like, legit PB. It's crazy. I mostly rock their tobaccos - Cured, Turkish, Red Burley are all killer flavors. They have a good Lemonade as well. Cupcake Batter is alright, Crunch Cereal is meh, Milk & Honey is interesting and works in very, very low doses. Wild Melon is good. Mostly with Flavorah, I'm digging the tobaccos and their cream / marshmallow flavors - good stuff.

INW has it on Pipe-themed tobaccos; Vanilla, Dark Cherry are both real good. Haven't strayed from their tobaccos yet.

If you were looking for me to slim your choices down... well... sorry! Haha

If you're in a fruit mood, some of the more recent things I've tried are TFA's Jackfruit and Quince and FlavorWest's Huckleberry.

Jackfruit tastes a bit like apples, pears and I want to say grape. White grape. It's good alone, with some creams and vanillas, or mixed in with a yogurt. Quince smells a bit more like bananas to me, but it's really reminiscent of chewing gum... kinda. I've only tried it standalone, and while I think it'll have a great place in a fruit mixer, medley kind of thing, I don't know if I like it too well on its own. Huckleberry is great, because I'm a berry fan. If I had to choose fruits to vape, I'd prefer berries as opposed to watermelon, bananas, tropical stuff etc. So Huckleberry is just different enough to be its own, but it's a berry - so it'll mix with rasp, blue, etc. I'm excited to play with that one, but I've been in Quince and Jackfruit land this weekend.

I have 12 -15 recipes in the works and 6 solid advs but I get a lose of flavor/appeal after 30mls or so. On the other hand 1 tank (crown 2) 2 rdas for tasting after mixing and steeping so I'm boring that way lol

If it's peanut butter you're after, you'd probably be best to add some sort of Reese's-ish, candy-spectrum PB to Flavorah's - Flavorah's PB is that gritty, unsweetened taste. It may not be what you're looking for by itself. If you've tried other PB recipes and went "yeah, but I wish it tasted a bit more authentic", Flavorah's PB is the missing ingredient. I like it with FA Almond and TFA Toasted Marshmallow. Maybe Flavorah's Cream to top it off. Anywho, just my additional two cents.

That's what I am looking for. I get peanut butter flavor but it's more of a candy peanut butter. Authentic peanut butter to add to flavors is what I want. Not so much as a standalone but addition to others for the desired effect.

The worst I've found were LA & NF.
Certain flavors like NF Ginger takes very little so you don't notice it at all.
But some are probably more pronounced due to needing to use such high amounts just to get any flavor.
Other brands may have "some" alcohol, but it's not that noticeable IMO.

- For Nicotine I would take it even a step further then what people are suggesting here, and suggest that you simply stop overbuying what you actually are going to use within a certain time frame. I mean for you specifically we are talking what, and extra dollar or 2 savings buying the extra bulk? I'd ditch the NN and buy a bottle of this for $8:

Pretty quality stuff imo, and beyond a fairly wide spread and mostly placebo driven preference that goes on in regards to "this one tastes cleaner then the other" nicotine recommendations you very likely won't notice any difference. Split it into two 30ml bottles. Freeze one. Rinse and repeat 6 months from now.

- For mixing it's going to be a slow tweaking process for you regardless (unless you are willing to constantly let stuff go to waste), given the fairly small amount of juice you vape daily. While i do speed steep with a crock pot at times (after a 4 hours with cap off sit period immediately post-mix), I'm actually not a fan of doing that with mixes that use a fruit as the base flavor. For me heat seems to speed up the already present muting process, and nothing of that variety should really need to steep more then 10-14 days at most to begin with (at least to reach 95% of it's flavor potential).

My own strategy nowadays is to basically stay at least 2 weeks ahead of the curb, while more or less breaking down my flavor profiles into cycles. Right now for example I just got done making six different 30ml bottles of cereal blends, that are still behind the six danish blends and 6 cookie blends that i made 2 and 4 weeks ago. Along with some other random stuff i made in between lol (all recorded by mixing date on e-liquid-recipes.com ). So by the time i get around to trying the ones I made today...they are naturally steeped .

As far as flavorings go I simply store mine in my kitchen cabinet, and even living in the heat of Florida with no AC in there I've never had any real issues with stuff going "bad" in well over a year's sit time. I've never tried NN's brand, but as far as FA goes you can't miss with pretty much any of their creams. Fruits are fairly subject to specific brands though, of course. If something is going "wrong" there my guess is finding the right fruit flavor that works for you is the real issue over a storage one.

Along with some other random stuff i made in between lol (all recorded by mixing date on e-liquid-recipes.com ). So by the time i get around to trying the ones I made today...they are naturally steeped .

As far as flavorings go I simply store mine in my kitchen cabinet, and even living in the heat of Florida with no AC in there I've never had any real issues with stuff going "bad" in well over a year's sit time. I've never tried NN's brand, but as far as FA goes you can't miss with pretty much any of their creams. Fruits are fairly subject to specific brands though, of course. If something is going "wrong" there my guess is finding the right fruit flavor that works for you is the real issue over a storage one.

I ordered from nic river. Nn has had some bad reviews on customer service and everyone is raving over nicriver's. I did not order the 60ml I ordered the diy kit. 150ml 48mg nic 500ml vg 500ml pg 10 60ml bottles gloves and 15 10ml flavors for $50. I needed the nic pg and vg and at nn would have paid 36 for approx half that without flavors. You can't beat that price with 7.50 shipping. Let see how this goes. I will post tomorrow with a summary of what I learned so everyone reading this looking to learn can skip to a summary of the great info from everyone here.

To recap everything I learned.

1. Warm water steeping will inherently speed up oxidation.

2. Removing the cap during steeping flavors without alcohol will speed up oxidation with no benefit.

3. Break concentrated nic into smaller manageable containers leaving the bulk in the freezer for extended periods reducing oxygen and warming that speeds oxidation.

4. Making juices in advance of 2weeks or more allows natural steeping.

5. Steep in a dark area leaving the cap on with the exception of alcohol based flavorings.

6. Three things cause oxidation. Air sunlight and heat. Reduce or remove these for longer lasting nic and eyes liquid.

Well the kit from nic river came. I cannot say enough about the kit and nic river. The kit came in a box with packing peanuts (my nemisis) and two tubs inside. One tub had the pg vg nic and flavorings. The other had bottles gloves syringes graduated cylinder beaker and funnels. I will get use out of the funnels but I mix by weight so the other stuff isn't needed. The liquid was in individual bags and the nic oh my word is it clean clear and odorless. I ran a test and it was within tolerance of 48mg. I mixed a batch using fresh nic pg and vg and wow the feel is thicker clouds but not heavy in the lungs like my last few batches. I broke the nic down into 15 ml bottles and the pg and vg into clean 120 ml dispenser bottles. I am keeping nic pg and vg in freezer flavorings are in a cabinet in 68 degree house. I am kinda worried about the flavors but hopefully they last. Thanks for all the help and if the owner of nic river is on here or someone knows him please have him read this and the email I am about to send in. Incredible vendor. One stop shop for me.

Glad to see the Kit worked out for you.

Took a peek at it myself the other day and wouldn't hesitate in the least at recommending one as a go to option to anybody that wanted to take their first crack at DIY.
