I've got a fairly scratched mod, i wanna refurbish it, help! lol

Yo! I've got a rx200s that's been programmed meticulously, hence why i want to clean up the casing n all. I've got no clue how to go about doing it, was hoping to patina it and more importantly, remove the scratches in the metal, any advice and suggestions?

when you say Patina are you saying to want to patina this like a copper mech mod or are you saying you just want to clean it up and repaint it in some type of scheme?

Aluminium doesn't patina like copper, brass, etc., it corrodes. Corroded aluminum is not brown with a fine grain, like rust on tool steel. Rather, the corrosion products are white, random pitted, crusty volcanos, and somewhat like salt stains. If you have a sliding shower door more than a couple of years old, look at the corner joints.

You can tear it all apart (there are YouTubes on this) then polish up and get it plated if you like. But honestly IMO way too much hassle for this Mod I'd just get a wrap for it. The internal components don't really have long life.

To follow up on this just in case you like the salty, pitted corroded look though you can do this. Try a mixture of 5% sodium hydroxide with about 5g/l of salt. Mix this with some sawdust and leave it for a few days on the aluminium surface - it will give a corroded finish. If it is not corroded enough, put the sawdust back for a few more days or until it is the finish you need.

Make sure you keep the mixture moist.

You can use a wrap, which is fairly inexpensive or some company are out there that do custom work.
OCD mods has done a few for me, they cerekoat the mod then do custom graphics... He can be a little more pricey, but the work is impeccable.

I'm not sure of the others, so really can't speak for them, but alot can be found on Facebook groups.

Another thing might be plastidip, but I've only seen a few things here and there on reddit.

well, yeah, i'd just like to repaint it after sanding it down
look up refinishing aluminum what paints adhere properly etc do the back battery door first as a test. after your done painting it get a clear coat and finish it off so it does not happen as easily again
