Wow...

Everyone raves about these things, and I got a brick. Hope it's just bad luck, because I'm considering a refund instead of an exchange.

Wire trapped between the two parts of the housing... therefore the 26650 doesn't quite fit in properly, the battery door doesn't close, and the mod doesn't fire... "DAMAGED ATOMIZER" no matter what I do.

More like... Damaged Goods.

Sigh... not impressed right now Hohm Tech, not impressed.

Ouch... I think you just were unlucky...or I was just lucky when I got mine. :sarcasm: ( G2 ) Not a thing was wrong with it, outside of being FUGLY.

I say exchange, but its truly your call. Won't even fault you if you disliked them forever, first impressions are hard to redo.

Uh huh... I figured y'all would be as shocked as I am by this. Fortunately I'm "financially comfortable," so I don't desperately need my $34 back.

That said, I bought a 26650 with the exclusive purpose of getting this mod. Given what you two have said so far, I am leaning towards exchange. We'll see what VaporCube comes up with.

mine had that damaged atomizer notice a couple of times but it was when putting it in kanthal mode for TC..i went to normal power and it stopped saying that...I purchased 2 new batteries from liion and charged them up to 4.20 volts and when I installed the first battery the meter on the Slice said the battery was at 95% and never showed as being a fully charged battery...Not sure if maybe the batteries still need a few more charges or the device is flawed but ill give it a few more charges to see how it does....Honestly for me the buttons and the sounds they make just doesn't feel like a quality mod to me..it reminds me of my eleaf 60w TC..Maybe the chip is decent but im not impressed with the device...I like the SX mini and the Hcigar VT75 a lot better so far..I got my VT75 today after work and loving it so far.

Hey it happens. I know that's not what you want to hear right now but it's true. Hell, I've even heard of the much heralded DNA being DOA on this forum. The good news is if Vaporcube gives you a hard time I have absolutely no doubt that Jacob and crew at Hohmtech will make it right. That of course is if you decide to keep it.

Yeah. US Company. I got that on my side, that's for sure. Thanks for the name drop there :).

It's okay, I take heavy doses of mood stabilizing psychoactive prescription drugs (TMI duly noted), so I'm not throwing the mod at my walls and swearing in a fiery rage... It sucks, I am indeed disappointed, and it is just bad luck. I have gotten a lot of other vape mail this week which has made me happy, own six working mods as of this moment, and I only have one mouth. So, eh, whatever... "it is what it is" as the kids say these days.

Not only that, there's probably a few hundred warnings from dozens of well respected members telling you not to expect G2 build quality.

Wait....you mean my slice isn't built as well as my g2? Damn no wonder it doesn't go over 101 watts. I should send it back. Ehh not really I'll keep it, even if it wasn't the tiffany one I wanted, cause we all know the tiffany one is the best slice.

$59.99 would've been more than ive paid for any of my mods (paid $49.99 for my Smok Alien) and to me its not the best quality feeling mod..Maybe the chip is good but the rest feels like my $23.00 eleaf 60w button wise..Just my opinion in any case and I stand by it as I have quite a few to compare it to....If I paid $60.00 id be more disappointed but it was a good deal for $30.00 as long as the chip lasts and does what it says it can do.

yeah but the 50 you paid isn't retail. it was sale price. if you wanted to be fair the alien retail price is 120 bucks for the kit.

It's been on sale for months, so I'm looking at it as the regular price. I agree the quality should be better for a $60 mod. My battery door was wobbly from day one, and the paint on the door started flaking pretty quick. I also have an Alien with no paint, which I paid more for. I'd be more pissed if I'd paid $40 for a Sig 213w that wouldn't hit 150w, and wouldn't TC. I can live with cosmetic issues. It's damn sad that we have to keep our expectations so low, frankly.

I got it mainly to compare chips...I have my first higher end Yihi chip in the Older SX mini M class and a DNA 75 chip in an Hcigar VT75 so with all the talk about the Hohm mods I figured for the price id try it also...It works and it was a good deal at $30.00...Im sure it will find use regardless of how I think it feels...I have plans on building a few Hammond A, G and B boxes using various chips and maybe the FSK chip will make its way into one.

Been vaping 4 years, and got to say, the slice is one of the best and one of the worst mods I've had.

It is the best because I think the chip is amazing, doing temp control on kanthal works great, and is one of the best vapes I get from my clapton builds.

But the actual mod body is the worst, I've paid $20 for mods where the paint lasts better than the slice, only after a week I could see little bits of paint coming off, and I am gentle on my mods.

After 6 weeks use, and looks a year old, and the paint is also coming off the fire button too.

2tDbUGa.jpg

People can defend the slice as much as they want, but don't care how much a mod costs, the paint should last longer than a few weeks.

Just wish they would put that chip in other better made mods.

I can roll with that statement...I like the chip so far but the box and feel of the buttons used I don't care for.

Hopefully the chip proves reliable long term and it gets used in some other boxes by different manufacturers, much like IPV uses Yihi and some others are using DNA...ALL my IPV mods feel of high quality; even the IPVD3S I paid $19.99 for

Meh, I don't mind the buttons. My black paint has been holding up where it's exposed, put a carbon wrap on it within a couple weeks of getting it.

The chip rocks.
Best temp control with clapton coils I've had (other mods are dual cell 350j and rx200). Contact or spaced, it doesn't care, clapton, dual fused clapton or just regular 316L micro coil.

I don't vape over 80w with most of my attys, boreas and clieto 120 are the only ones that need 100w so those go on my yihi box and really only because they zap the juice out of a single cell too fast but the slice can push the power needed. Everything else gets ran on the slice... if anyone ever puts the fsk into a dual cell box (besides the G2) I'd be all over it.

My FSK chip will more than likely end up in a Hammond G box but with parallel 18650,s....I vape between 17 to 60w depending on whats on top so, it should have amazing battery life going with two LG HG2 batteries (6000mah)...Some nice stainless clicky buttons and a nice fat daddys or varitube 510...Now im droolingo_O

Yeah, if someone put a DIY box out with the quality of the Varitube that I put my 350j in... I'd buy a $30 donor slice and build it.
Not into the Hammond lean and can't be bothered drilling it out myself.

Thread derail...
To me series regulated is where it's at. You've got 6v to 8.4v to push your ~5v build instead of 3v to 4.2v to push a ~5v build. Higher voltage draws less amps (double the voltage draws roughly half the amps for the same watt output) so even though it isn't double the mah, you get about the same life out of a charge because the mod doesn't have to suck every bit of the voltage available and then boost it.

If your build doesn't ask for more than 3.7v, then all good with the parallel and you would probably get more life out of the 2 cells than a series box. But just about none of my attys demand less than 4.5v and most ~5v.

I cant find a voltage limit for the slice chip..Is the G2 the same exact chip?..If so, then I may try series but if its limited to 4.2v to maybe 5v as it was designed as a single battery mod I may have to go parallel.

I think it is the same chip but maybe they program it to only take single cell. If not, a G2 doner wouldn't break the bank too bad either if you catch it on a flash sale.

A single cell can do parallel if wanted so, I may just go with that unless I find out different...Ill do a thread on the build and stop hijacking here..lol..sorry.

I voted replacement by the way since everyone needs to try the FSK chip at least once especially for the price.

IIRC 6V for the slice and 7.5V for the G2

hohmtech said that it's fine to use extra batteries in it as long as the input voltage stays the same. They have a guy at their shop who has a quad battery custom made FSK mod with the G2 chip. I would think it would work the same with the Slice but it would have to be parallel so input voltage stays the same. the slice chip isn't made to read input voltage of 8.4 like the G2 is.

Thanks for the confirmation of that...Parallel for the hohm slice it shall be...I just watched a bunch of youtube videos on the kanthal TC and apparently it WILL burn the cotton in half using kanthal..(Twisted420 review)...Not sure what the deal is on that but thought people should know.

According to a Pbusardo review he couldn't get more than 7.4volts from the G2..maybe the first version?

On a good note, ive just tried Kanthal in TC mode on the slice..Im using an older CEO RDA in single coil mode with a single fused 26g wrapped in 36g kanthal clapton coil..Power is set to 50 watts and temp to 450 degrees..All I can say is WOW on the vape..Super flavor with an instant ramp up of goodness.

I never received that damaged atomizer notice again..Apparently if you fire the button without a tank on it, it resets ohms to zero and says to install an atomizer..Once you install a tank and fire it once it reads the new ohms..To change power you have to go in regulr power mode to change that then go back into kanthal tc mode which you can adjust temps on the fly using the up/down buttons.

So, despite my not liking the plastic buttons or the case its in I really like the chip..A custom parallel box mod for this chip will be in the works but maybe using dual 26650s..Almost 10,000 mah anyone?

Well I've started quite the debate.

I am going to take the advice of many and go directly to hohmtech... VaporCube has not responded to my email neither today, nor yesterday.

THAT's more frustrating than getting the brick in the mail.

I'm writing an email now. More to come on this developing news story!

I really hope you get an exchange ASAP.

I want a Hohmtech mod myself for the collection, but they aren't as good value here in the UK as they are in the USA, so I need to find a good deal on one to be able to justify it.

As has been said in this thread though, I have had a DNA200 that was DOA. It had all the signs of a blown fuse, and I had to send it to Evolv in the USA, and they replaced the board. I also had another DNA200 fail, Evolv again replaced the board, so I think it is just luck of the draw to be honest.

Have you called hohmtech? If you didn't get a reply to your email, their number is in their contact page.

I don't think they will warranty the mod but they may contact vaporcube and light a fire under their ass.

When I ordered my slice, vaporcube forgot my 26650 and sent me to hohmtech. After speaking with them I drove to one of their stores the next day and grabbed my cell. They screwed up on my order but corrected it quickly.

Also, I don't think I saw that you have this working yet. If it were me and I was waiting on a response, I would have unscrewed the box, checked to see if the wire casing has been cut or not and make sure the connections are all intact, button it up and see if it will run.
Also, you did fire it without an attomizer attached, then attached the attomizer and hit fire again to set the chip right? That could possibly be all that's wrong... or maybe that was mentioned already but thought I'd mention it.
