So I'll try to be as detailed as I can with this so that it might be easier for everyone to help. I'm using vaperstek pg, vg, and 100 MG vg based nicotine and I'm getting not quite peppery, but harsh tastes at the very least. I drip 3mg nicotine at a 70/30 vg/pg ratio. I tried mixing vg and pg, and then vg, pg and nic to see if that could've been my trouble but do I have to let it steep before I try it? I tried it freshed mixed and it was harsh for the first few hits then mellowed out. I'm using FA flavoring that's totallingredients about 7% but no more than 3% per flavor. I have even bought an ultrasonic cleaner with a heat setting and put my juice in for roughly 2 to 3 hours, let it sit overnight, and tried it the following morning with a very minor difference. I tried DIY about two years ago and this is basically what happened then and I gave up. Any help would be much appreciated.

You shouldn't taste anything nic-wise using VT @ 3%.
Are you using a recipe calculator?

Also, imo 70% VG is a lot for dripping... Why? ...it's gonna be harsh. I'd say to reverse your percentages.
I tink 70% VG would yield a smoother vape. (& far more vapor)

Lastly, FA is typically strong flavoring but imo, 7% total flavoring is likely still pretty weak.

GL man and welcome.

Vg would make it smoother though instead of harsh, which is why I'm running at 70 vg 30 pg. And yeah I'm using a calculator. That's why I'm so confused why it's harsh.

So, what flavors are you using?

Oh scu' me. I misread. 70/30 VG iz good. Forget the U/S. It's doing nothing.
......................
IMO
Steeping = time. <--- that's a period. And frankly, not all flavors even need steeping.
By & large, fruits, light creams & many others fine as a shake n' vapes.
But custards and heavier creams need lots of time to blend. V1 Custards taste horrible, and then 6 weeks later are delish.

Maybe that could be my issue and the whole ultrasonic cleaner thing is a bust. Although I didn't shake my nic when I first got it a few days ago because I've read it can also oxidize it. The nic has a slight yellow tinge to it and I called vaportek and they said it's normal due to the sugars in the vg base.

Oh, that could be it, you always need to shake the crap out of your nic (especially VG based) before using , you could have hit a "hot spot" when you drew some out to mix with.

VT sells both a TH And a Premium nicotine. Which one are you asking about?

I believe Markw4mms was on target regarding shaking. Vigorously shake your flavors also before mixing.

I suggest you do not open your nic. bottle during the "unthawing process" until it reaches approximately the same temperature as you mixing environment.

Suggesting recipes without knowing your likes and dislikes is tough. There's a bunch of good ones in the Recipe area...http://vapingunderground.com/forums/diy-e-liquid-recipes.50/ Keying in on the ones with a lot of feedback might save you some time.

Often the recipes mention if they are shake & vapes.

If you got a big bottle for your NIC base you're better off splitting it up into smaller glass bottles to store in the freezer.
Keep a 30ml drip tip bottle, or 2, out for mixing so you don't expose the whole batch to more oxygen.
(You can also dilute it down to 50mg per ml by adding 50% PG, or VG).
You don't have to warm it up first to use it then, but still need to shake it up before use.
One of the reasons I like PG/NIC base better as it seems to not separate as much as VG/NIC base.
Easier to mix with, and/or split up, because it's thinner.
At the 3mg amount you're using the PG won't really bother your final ratio.
(You can also try making a batch of juice without any NIC to narrow it down as it could be something else causing this).

Thank you! I actually shook the hell out of my nice last night and remade a strawberry cream this morning, it's not nearly as harsh! It has very little taste but it probably just needs to steep now. And I use the premium nic.

I did split it up into smaller bottles, I just made the mistake of not shaking it when I first received it so possibly it was separated a bit when I split it into smaller bottles. I honestly may try a pg base nic next solely because ithe would be easier to use.
