New to hear and new to building. Have built some kanthal in the last week but wanted to try stainless. I recently got some 24 and 26 ss316l. Today I was told by a semi local vape shop why they didnt have ss. He said because its dangerious when coils are touch it made some weirs blob and its wasnt good for you so they stoppes selling it. I looked and looked for something to support this! I have been vaping a little bit have a smok alien amd waiting for g priv to come. Should i be building touching coils or spaced and using on wattage or tc. Thanks for any help its all new to me cheers

Your local Vape Shop doesn't have a clue which sadly isn't all that surprising. There are a few B&M's that know what they're talking about but sadly that is not the norm. You can build contact or spaced coils and they are fine.

either that or they made it up so they could sell something else.
customer: i'd like to buy some SS wire
shop: (doesn't have any) we don't carry it because it'll rape your mother in the middle of the night but kanthal won't do that. let me sell you some instead. it's much better

Well most to quality cooking equipment is stainless steel..... For a purpose of course. ...

Which means that it's unsafe to cook in stainless steel..... Well no more cooking for me....

Papá Johns get ready ..... Papá Johns every night from now on....

One of the local B&M's here in Vegas (who I like and have been dealing with for quite a while) told me the other day that I should never vape on Nichrome unless I'm using temp control. I was like, ummmmm, what? First off, people have been vaping Nichrome for years, long before temp control. Second, unless you have an FSK board (which is a relative newcomer), how in the hell do you plan to do TC with Nichrome? It's Nichrome, people, not nickel. Anyways, those folks got downgraded a couple notches on my respect meter because of that.

Aaaah yeah, considering also before Kanthal became popular NiChrome was the preferred resistance wire to use.

Actually I have a couple of mods that claim to do TC on nichrome wire. Never tried it though.

The battlestar claims it. I don't use nichrome so couldn't test it but it does SS superbly so would be interesting to know

The only real difference I can think of with ss316L over something like kanthal A1 is the resistance. If you're used to building coils using 24g kanthal you'd need to adjust slightly with ss316L and go 26g or 28g to get roughly the same resistance. Or if you're used to using 24g kanthal and you wrap the same coil using 24g ss316L don't be surprised when the resistance is much lower.

For instance right now I've got a single coil 4mm (I think, might be 3.5mm but pretty sure it's 4mm) 6 wrap of twisted 26g ss316L and it's coming out to .35 ohms. If running a dual coil with smaller coils of twisted 24g at around the same 5-6 wraps I'd expect it to easily drop to .12 ohms or somewhere in that neighborhood.

wtf ..nichrome predates Kanthal even..all the first cartomizers and dripping atties were made with nichrome.
