Ok i need a little bit of help. I have quit or trying to quick smoking. I can go all day with my vape and not touch one cig. All night also. I thought the cig befor bed would be the hardest to give up but naa that was nothing. My prob is when i wake up first thing in the morning i try to hit my vape but man it hurtz my throat so bad. I dont u understand why. I try to drink something. Coffee every morning take a nice pull and its still really harsh. Everyone in my house smokes so i find myself leaning towards asking for a cig sometimes. Can anyone tell me the reason for this. Why it feels that bad in the morning. I get to work around 10 1030 and take a pull right befor i go in and finally back to normal. Can i do something to help this out. Or does this happen to everybody

Some juice does that to me. I have a morning vape on standby in the event a new juice does this.

How old is the coil if you are using a tank? Last time the wick was changed if RDA? How much nic in the juice? VG/PG? How much power?

When I first started , I would cough like crazy during the morning when I vaped, it was awful

Eventually it passed.

Our bodies sometimes react oddly as it tried to heal itself from tobacco damage

Yep. I had the same problem too at first. It could be a juice/nic issue, or a dry morning throat issue, or just the old "body ain't used to it yet" thing.
Sucks that you're surrounded by smokers, too. Personally, I would have a morning cig, then get my ass outta the house quick. No shame in having a crutch, especially in the beginning.

My old man had the same problem when he first started vaping. He would get really harsh hits and cough in the morning when he had his first vape of the day. Eventually it passed and now he vapes in the morning without a problem.

This is very common -- you see how many others had the same problem. I solved it, and also the problem of that morning vape seeming to take so long to satisfy so I didn't smoke, by having a special ejuice for morning; with less throat hit, but more nicotine, and I'd turn down the wattage pretty considerably too. I'd take it into my bedroom at night when I went to bed, the one I wanted to vape when I first woke up, and the minute my feet hit the floor, I'd start vaping that high-nic/low TH like nobody's business... so that by the time I was dressed and ready to leave my bedroom, I was pretty much over the morning craving, and could slowly turn the wattage up to my usual level, and finally get back to my high-TH/lower nic level vape that I vaped the rest of the day.

And it does pass -- after i'd been vaping about 4 months, I found I didn't need to do anything special at all in the mornings; i'd just wait the 15-20 mins that I always used to wait to smoke, and start right up with my usual, though I do still tend to go a bit lower on the wattage, so that I can go higher later when I want more TH.

I don't know if this is helpfull as I vape on ss mesh wicks, but..in the morning when my wick is cold and the juice has congealed, the first 10 or so pulls are a little rough, I just vape through it and pretty soon it's fine.

I could be a little off key here, but I had a thought. Maybe try a creamy vape. Maybe a cereal vape. Should be smoother on the throat for morning time. Input on this thought anybody?

I find not anticipating that first morning vape drawing on it harder than you should to try to get the nic fix since there is no "AHHH" feeling like smoking caused me to hurt the throat. Take a few primer puffs and only take part draws and not totally inhale them either. I don't know why but one can assume the juice settles down in the wick thus a rough first vape or few. Your throat could be dry from maybe snoring so the vape would be like sandpaper going down, a few drinks of your morning beverage before you take some lung hits will help or not inhale and let the mouth absorb the nic. I get rough vapes after eating so I've learned to take it easy after I eat something. Once you have roughed up your throat it seems to stick a long time before it goes away so taking it easy is pretty well the only solution.

The sore throat could simply be a quit smoking related symptom and have little or nothing to do with vaping. There are a lot of things that can pop up when you quit smoking: sore throat, bleeding gums, mouth ulcers. If it's a quit smoking symptom it will pass.

If you aren't keeping yourself well hydrated that could be the problem as well. Creating vapor is a hygroscopic process that can dry out mouth and nasal passages. Have you increased your water intake since you started vaping?

Yes at first..... I would lower the wattage (voltage back then :)) in the mornings and raise it up after an hour or so....

I had to do that too - forgot all about it since it's been well over a year

Any and all of these MIGHT work - it's just so different for everybody, lol

I'd try the cheap and easiest first - lower wattage

I still get that sometimes after vaping about a year. Depends on the juice and the power. Some juices are just a bit harsher or more 'crisp' than others, strong flavors like mixed berries or heavy fruit flavors can be a bit much first thing in the morning. Same with the power, I find I generally prefer to start the day off with a bit lower power.

Like anything else, in the evenings after being up all day having a beer or glass of whiskey isn't so bad. Not sure I'd enjoy waking up to the burn of bourbon hitting my throat right out of the gate. Some flavors of vape are smoother than others, creamy types, coffee types or just more mild flavors in general. Others are just incredibly flavorful and a bit of a shocker to the system first thing in the morning.

Part of it for me is habit. When I smoked I lit up soon as I cracked my eyes open. It was part of the ritual. Now I've noticed it's easier on the system to wake up a bit, have some coffee, then have a vape. Even though vaping has taken the place of smoking it hasn't replaced the 'ritual' for me and instead it's a bit more like being a non smoker with a different routine.

Just like going to bed, I take a vape then put up the device and lay in bed for a bit and watch a little tv before going to sleep. No longer sitting on the edge of the bed and finishing the last smoke right before going to sleep. It takes a bit of getting used to and that's just how I've personally adjusted to it. Doesn't mean it's what will work for everyone.

Well I reduce wattage first thing in the morning..... if I'm vaping at 25 watts.... when I go to bed I try to remember to turn the mod down to about 15watts... so that first hit of the day doesn't tear out my throat. After that first cig of the day vape I generally can go back to what ever wattage i want to vape the rest of the day.

Also MTL is less harsh. Closing the air down for a few draws will do much the same as reducing wattage.

Yeah I always wanted something sweet in the morning, even though I vaped a Virginia tobacco flavor all the rest of the day -- because *all* vapor is actually sweeter than tobacco smoke, and that was really apparent to me, when my tastebuds were "fresh" in the morning, so it worked best if I used something that was *actually* sweet. And a lot of sweet vapes do tend to have less TH -- I *add* Flash to my strawberry & cream, otherwise it would have no TH at all.

I had that problem also when first starting, but then again I would cough when I had my first cigarette in the morning. As soon as I woke up. So I just picked the better option in my opinion. It will pass.

Let us know how it goes - I'm curious

And TYA - it was refreshing when you posted the question without being a "panicky guy" like some new folks do when they encounter an issue

Alot of people will use any excuse to go back to smoking for me it can be life or death. With anything new comes problems u know.

I've noticed that too. :D First little bump in the road, oh this is terrible, I gotta go back to smoking -- like they're just LOOKING for a good excuse. There's always an excuse -- never a good reason. And yeah, any change that involves something as huge as giving up smoking is gonna bring some BIG changes, and challenges. It's like the universe wants to see if you REALLY mean it. ;)

18mg can be pretty harsh buddy. You'll want to turn that down in the morning and if that doesn't work, consider buying another tank to use just in the morning with lower nic juice. However, it could be the flavoring or the PG and not the nic level. It's very hard to tell. You just have to mess around with various things.

I had a similar problem at 18mg when I start vaping in that the vape tickled my throat & made me cough if I didn't vape for about a half hour or more. I think it was the high PG juice I was using, but i never did find out. It doesn't do it to me anymore at 50/50 PG/VG mix.

At first, it's ok to mix it up with smoking and vaping throughout your day until you figure out what works best for you to switch to vaping 100%. Sucks that everyone in your house is a smoker. Learn to get you vape down and the convert them lol

My issue is a little different... I got a eleaf 5000mah and use the nautilas atomizer. My previous for a year or so never gave me a sore throat but this new one, I cant hardly swallow if I use it all day. I just kept reading, altering my settings each time I saw something else, but finally went back to old one. Sore throat gone in a couple hours. Very sad, I know I'm doing something wrong - same juice same watts same ohms same coil.. idk :(
