YiHi mini Q mini charging

Hi peeps wondering if anyone can help me please

I normally always use an external charger (nitecore digicharger D4), always use married batteries etc

Anyway just got this mod the other day (very impressed with it) am using Sony VTC5a in it ...thought I'd give the internal charging a go so I plugged in the USB and had a WTF moment! I was presented with the below nearly shit my pants



Thought I'd check on the nitecore battery 1&2 screenies




Now is this normal for the mod to do this? I mean it's discharging evenly according to the nitecore which is good and it certainly didn't go in the 2.8 territory!.... These batteries are really good been performing like champs ...no damage to them or anything, always used and charged together so I'm confused?

Sounds like you learned what you already know, don't use internal charging. Nitecore display is usually very accurate so I'd definitely believe that over the mod display.

Thanks don't get me wrong I'll continue to always use external charging just wondering if there are any experienced YiHi users out there who could confirm if this is normal or not so I know if it's safe to use if I'm in a pinch

Did you try swapping the batteries and see what the mod says. Could be a weak/dirty battery slot in the mod. Are they discharging equally? Another +1 for external charging.

I didn't try that must admit the mod was literally brand new looked all clean when I took batteries out ...I can only assume it's discharging evenly as both batteries went in the D4 and as you can see at the top both read 3.55 volts

The battery life bar looked fine in power mode was where I'd expect it to be at 7.1v - mod wired in series (there is only 1 single battery indicator when in use)

I shall give this a go next time got fully charged batteries in it at the moment it's performing output is flawless so far no issues at all that I can detect although I have no equipment to properly hook it up and check

Ok carried out few more tests with a different set of batteries this time just to rule that out

Using my other set of VTC5A batteries

The D4 is reading exactly 3.96v for each battery

I place them in the device and plug in USB first cleaning the contacts off just to be sure

Device says

battery 1 = 4.2v
battery 2= 3.84v

Immediately swap the batteries over

Battery 1 = 3.99v
Battery 2=4.05v

Now I go into power mode the combined voltage equals what the D4 says 7.9v but it's wobbling by 0.05v either way

Noticed a couple of other things as well

If I insert the battery to the right first I get no noise from the device



If I insert the other battery first I get like a clicking noise though I can't see any sparking at the terminal



The noise stops as soon as I insert the other battery and it makes the usual YiHi high frequency noise the board puts out when switching on

The other thing I noticed when cleaning the terminals is these bits fell out the mod battery housing looks like ribbon wire!? I know that wasn't me anyway this would not have affected the results above as I removed this before i attempted the charge



I'm completely stumped ! The device is reading my resistence on the coil fine, is firing fine, the menu and Bluetooth operations all working fine...no delay in operation I can detect

a .06 difference is pretty normal IMO. and honestly I'd trust the readings of the yihi board over the charger. if you have an MM you can check yourself and see what they say to have a 3rd measure

Oh just add I've tried rattling the device there is nothing lose I can hear at all literally no rattling not even the buttons rattle

Unfortunately I don't have a multi meter I could ask my son to borrow a fluke from his work to check it for me maybe?

flukes are the best man! 500+ dollars but worth it if you need it for your job.
You could always get a cheap like 10-15 dollar one. they are good to have around and will be good enough for something simple like this

See its bloody weird so used it for a bit outside as I was posting above thought I'd just plug it in after using it for a bit now it's saying the below



And it's continuing to charge with a 0.04v difference between the two

Bits falling out doesn't sound good. If the mods working fine and not getting hot I'd use it but keep an eye on things until I used it enough to forget about keeping an eye on it. LOL Just saw your latest post and bloody weird is right. Gremlins messing with you???

Yeah I guess so although hate stuff like this ...pay premium for something it should work flawlessly

since replying it's now reading

Battery 1 @3.89v
Battery 2 @ 3.93v

Doesn't feel hot in the slightest

Edit: maybe it was just having a turd or something earlier or needed to power the batteries a bit first to properly read thier voltages?? and since using it now detects it better ...doesn't seem likely whatever happened in post 1 I don't want to see that again scary stuff! ...I'll get a MM anyway check the device over and batteries at the moment seems to working ok though in recharge mode

Gonna charge this up till both read 4.2v then I'll use it for a bit and plug back in USB see if it reads them equally after that

...if it does maybe the nitecore isn't charging both equally?

Had a chat with my son... he reckons reason for the noise when I only insert the battery on the left first it the way they have wired the device on the frames on the circuit board ...he said sounds like something on the chip is trying to do something but doesnt have enough power to do it from one battery ...hence the intermittent noise I was hearing also why it stops when I put the right one in

And is connected in a way inserting the right battery first it's trying to power that particular component?

DJLsb did a breakdown of the circuit board



So I can at least can put that one to rest insert battery to the right first then the left one from now on

Still charging evenly now so might have just had a hiccup earlier I'll keep an eye on it for a bit as you guys said let you know if I see any other probs thanks for help guys

Tried the charge again yesterday evening the mod charged like a champ evenly with a 0.03v variance the whole way through ...detected the batteries voltages fine and everything

So I'll put it down to the gremlins that first time! Who knows
