What diffrence does wire type have on flavor?

Given the same coil build, resistance and voltage what diffrent qualities have you experienced between KA1, Ni80 & SS? Is one better for fruity flavors? Dessert flavors? Disregarding temp control and premade coils please. Thanks in advance!

I don't know if this will be of any help ...but...first off I vape only gennys with ss mesh wicks and an occasional porous ceramic wick...like alot of people I only used Kanthal, but out of curiosity I've been vaping ss wire on my gennys for the last 3 weeks....the differences....Kanthal has a very very slight metalic taste as opposed to SS..so you get a real clean flavor on SS,,but from my experince it seems to me that Kanthal gives more of the flavor of the juice than SS...so though I never really get the real foul taste vaping on a gunked up coil with SS that I would get on Kanthal. I just get a diminishing flavor on SS. I need to rebuild all my attys fresh with Kanthal now and see if the differnce in flavor is as big as it seems to my memory of Kanthal.

I haven't tried any type of nickel wire, and won't; costume jewelry with nickel content turns my skin black, so I figure it's better not to go there, inhaling that into my lungs.

I prefer kanthal to anything else. To me, stainless provides such extreme clarity of flavor that all I can taste is the cotton in the wick, but not the ejuice at all. Obviously, it's as subjective as anything else having to do with perception of taste. Which you ultimately prefer will be strictly a matter of your own tastebuds and preference.

I prefer SS to kanthal, much cleaner to me. To me, the juice tastes better.

However, SS takes a larger number of wraps than kanthal, so remember that, especially if you like your ohms in a higher range

Haven't tried nichrome for myself

if you vaped the old cartos and disposable dripping atties I think they were all wrapped with Nichrome.

Oh yeah, I rocked cartos for a couple of years, lol

Never built anything with it though and don't have any nichrome wire in my inventory

I tried SS wire around a mesh slug and the resistance is a little unstable when I run it off a mech. Its much better with my Dani Extreme w/ Temp Control, but not enough to make me want to stop using kanthal.

SS has a funky taste to it for me. I always get a metallic taste way more than kanthal but that's just me.

I thought cartos were awesome... then, 1) I started making my gunk-monster strawberry & cream, and 2) I got spoiled by the awesome flavor of rebuildable attys.... so I still have almost a whole brick of XL std-resistance cartos. I may use the cartos to help my son transition to vaping, since their draw is very similar to a cigarette's.

I wonder if the taste has to do with ones set up as well. I have only used Kanthal. I get a great taste from my subtank mini's, however in the Kangertech Subtank I get a terrible metallic taste with the same Kanthal wire and ohm.

Thanks for the responses I'm still figuring out what i like and will eventually load up with similar builds to do a head to head comparison.

That's the best way to find out ... try it yourself :)

I have experimented with SS316 and Kanthal A1 in the same atties using the same juice. I didn't keep the resistance the same or they would have been very different builds and not comparable. I used the same gauge wire with the same ID and the same number of wraps. If there was any difference in the vapes I couldn't tell, but that's just me.

Good luck with it.

Are you dry burning you coils? When I first started using SS, I was and would get an metalic flavor. I later learned thT SS should never be dry burned like you would Kanthal. I now warm them slightly with 15w, just for shaping, checking for hot spots and stop.

I do dry burn stainless. I'll try not to and see if that makes a difference.
