Cactus I live east of Winchester and Grew up around Prestonsburg.

Are the manly men around your area into their fall gun shooting as they are here where I live?
They have more money for ammunition than I do.
Oh yeah. Haven't been shooting in a while myself. Grew up in West Virginia in an area where no one raised an eyebrow if you fired off a box in the back yard. I'm too lazy to "go" shooting now.

A couple dripbox 160 pics I took a while back, they seem to be a fit for this thread.

Not to get too political, but what do you guys think of this nfl stuff? personally I say if you don't stand for the flag, you can stand in the unemployment line. Maybe they should explain to some veterans how oppressed they are, driving Ferraris, and living in mansions.

What's the plan this weekend everyone?
Started on a PWM box yesterday. Got the enclosure drilled out for the switch and 510, and magnets installed. Going to try to have it done tomorrow, all black enclosure, switch and 510 on the outside. Inside fluro green sled with volt meter and pot in the center, black and green paracord over showing wires. I'll try to get some pics later.

Recently, the German Patent on the Merkur Futur Double Edged Adjustable razor ran out and the Chinese started making them.

Just like you don't cheap out on batteries for your mod, you want high-quality blade for your razor.

I prefer the Japanese made Feather Razor Blades at a cost of $23/100 from Amazon.

61W8uaQB3NL._SX522_.jpg

I get 4 Barbershop Quality shaves per blade at a cost of $0.0575 per shave.

Then you are going to need some shaving soap.

Forget that crap that comes out of a spray can as it dries out your face and get a puck of high-quality shaving soap.

Proraso for $10 per puck from Amazon is a very well known brand and it conditions the skin on your face while delivering a smooth shave will last about 3 months or more.

91uiwIDxs4L._SX522_.jpg

Now you need a brush to apply to your face.

There are three basic types. Boar, Badger, and Synthetic.

Personally, I really like this one for $16.99

Razorock-Plissoft-Synthetic-Shaving-Brush

Then you are going to need a bowl or a cup to make your lather in. While any household bowl or large cup will work, I really like this one...

Shaving Soap Copper Bowl
Granderbazaar

The textured interior works with your brush to build a really thick lather. Well worth the extra $9

An Alum block is a must at $8 to treat any small cuts you get.

Alum-Block-Soothing-Aftershave-Astringent

91hsNw30u5L._SX522_.jpg

A block this size will last for a couple of years.

I also suggest using some Witch Hazel after you shave. It is a natural protection against infection as well as an astringent and really tightens up your face after you shave. At $3.49 for a 16 oz bottle from CVS or Walgreens is well worth it and it will last you 6 months or more.

5042825485.jpg

Then to finish things off, and to leave you smelling nice you will want some aftershave. Bay Rum is a classic and also soothing to your face.

There are lots of different brands and scents available so you are kind of on your own here but overall, I prefer the Clubman brand.

Just like getting into vaping, there is an initial investment cost and with care, your razor, brush and mug/bowl will most likely last you a lifetime and you will find yourself saving a small fortune on blades and shaving soap.

Plus, this way, with some practice, you will end up getting a barbershop quality shave every morning as well as ending up with what I can only describe as an invigorated face every morning.

Or you can go back to crappy canned soap and $23 per pack razor blades that don't even come close to giving you the same results that you get with the above tried and true method.

If I was to look into vintage razors what recommendations there would you make?

The Vintage Razors can be problematic to purchase. You see them all the time on places like eBay but it is hard to tell what condition they are in.

My three favorite vintage razors are the Gillette Super Adjustable, The Gillette Slim Adjustable, and the Gillette Aristocrat.

Here is a pic of my Super Adjustable also known as the "Black Beauty".

The one I pictured is a long handle and the other ones have the shorter handles.

While I prefer the longer handles as I have large hands, I don't have any issues using the short handled razors.

The Boar bristles are really stiff and scratchy but they are also the least expensive.

Badger bristle brushes are still on the stiff side but not as scratchy and are the most expensive.

A good synthetic IMHO has the best of both worlds and are easier to keep clean and retain their shape better as well as dry faster.

Pretty much a matter of personal preference.

you may also want to get a brush, and razor stand. i've always been told to leave my brush hanging upside down. it's supposed to make the brush last longer. don't know if it's true though, and it may be just for natural hair brushes.

Yes and no.

While a stand is very nice (and I do use them) if you dry your brush with a towel and give a bit of a "Fluff" you can set it on its base and it will dry just fine!

Wow and WTF?

We were taking a brief bit of conversation about the manly art of Double Edged Wet Shaving and this somehow relates to shooting firearms, layers of tools and a Kanger Dripbox sharing on a grimy workbench and what I can only describe as a collection of old shoe soles?

Granted that this can be considered manly and I won't argue this.

But I suggest you go with the flow going on at the moment?

Like is there anything on that table that you would shave with:?

That being said, there is nothing in my shaving gear that can fix a car!:D

LoL wonder if Snap On do razors? Even as an attachment head

The only correlation between shaving and firearms I can think of is hunting where putting on the aftershave will affect ones scent letting the animals know you are approaching ...be sure to stay upwind!

So unc back to topic on the shaving bit though for these types of razors what's the proper technique? Unfortunately my facial hair grows in all directions makes it a mission for the normal with and against the grain

If you take a look back we were talking about tools and this post came long before you started talking about shaving your vaginas ;) The last pic is a tire.

Lol, seriously though the old school razors are interesting. Was thinking about getting a nice straight razor but good ones aren't cheap and seems like something you really shouldn't cheap out on.

This is why we have beard mapping.

http://www.whyiwetshave.com/basics-of-shaving-beard-mapping/

Basically, you use your hands to feel for the direction your beard grows on different portions of your face and neck and plan your shave accordingly in advance.

One pass with the grain and one pass against the grain.

I end up with a total of 4 passes to get a perfect shave.

So a MOD Razor is out of the question?

Well I did try to look one up originally to come back with a sarky comment but I couldnt find one so you got that instead lol closest I got was that guy who's mod exploded in the bathroom lost 7 teeth and half his face though I expect that was more of a Darwin Award moment than anything else
