Women in Vaping

mrsdeli

Member For 5 Years
I have noticed a trend on the facebook groups that is disturbing to me. Why is it that a majority of the "men" that post seem to have the "tits or gtfo" attitude. Very rarely do I see a female post anything and not get ripped on because of her choice of mod or because she doesn't fit some beauty standard that they have in their head. I have seen several comments saying that chicks don't know anything about rebuilding, vaping is for dudes, chicks only use ego's.
I really don't understand how any of this shit can even be considered gender specific. I think we all know women who smoked right? Did anyone ever say "smoking is for men? What gives?

I have seen a few posts like that, but not many. I may not belong to the "right" groups. LOL I just figure there a jerks everywhere and if it is really offensive I unfriend them. :)

I understand the the pigs, we can all be that way sometimes. I just don't understand why this is a "boy's club"? "not enough quotation marks" "still need more".
I get that in the cloud competitions it is mostly dudes. Women don't seem that competitive with that type of thing but sometimes I feel like an alien when I walk into a vape shop. It doesn't help that I am not a youngster either I suppose but damn, don't try to sell me an ego before I even open my mouth.

LOL I am middle aged and quite heavy. I think I am a part of the vaping demographic that can be overlooked because you are right about the fact that I do not feel the need to compete. Not just in Cloud contests but is my mod/PV better than yours. Yes I like to post a photo here and there but not the daily look how great I am type of thing.

I am a competitive person by nature but I have never had an interest in competing anything about vaping. I love to vape and so thankful it got me to quit smoking. I like dripping, building coils, DIY and nice mods/drippers (even though I don't have much compared to most). I can see this as a male dominate interest but not limited to them. I don't think of you as an alien @mrsdeli but I can certainly see how you'd feel that way.

Thanks ld. That is my question though, why is it a male dominated interest (vaping not cloud chasing). We all (most) started vaping to quit smoking so why is it seen as a guy thing? Personally I know more female vapers than male and they also feel like a pest when they go into a vape shop. I think part of it may be because they aren't using mechs yet. I am and I have noticed that their attitude gets a little better when they see that but why should we have to defend ourselves (goes for everyone). Maybe I am getting the hobbiest part and the quit smoking part mixed together. I guess I never realized there were two separate groups.

I don't think vaping is a guy thing but the competitiveness seems to be. I vape and vape everywhere I go (whether inside or out). I'm not a closet vaper by any means. I am interested in things vape related but don't feel a need to compete in any of it. If that makes sense.

why is it a male thing? how many women do you know, that knows tools, or even what they are doing when first starting?
it can be quiet intimidating.. trying to find that perfect vape for self, and seeing what everyone else is doing with their tools and toys..
then you have the stereotypical people.. some ladies are either shy, lack of time, or really just do not want to compete..
there are tons of things i could point out.. from the good to the bad..

but this is what makes the vaping communities fun.. finding your niche or spot.. perfecting what you like and knowing what you don't..
and if you think it is just women that don't like to compete.. there are men that don't either..;)

now me.. i like knowing i can blow a good cloud, anywhere.. i love to drip.. do i compete? no.. but i enjoy watching others.. :p

btw..
Maybe I am getting the hobbiest part and the quit smoking part mixed together. I guess I never realized there were two separate groups.

that is easy to do.. not to mention the ones i run across.. (men and women)
they love watching clouds.. but too set with what they do to even think on advancing..

i think everything can be traced back to overcompensation for perceived I am a spammer ban me. it's why lots of guys wear guns, have ginormous 4 wheel drive pickups, and other "macho" things. big vape clouds must be manly to them. i don't get it but oh well.

Women have the ability to read just like men do. What tools do we need just starting out? I think most folks know how to use a screwdriver. I just don't know why it seems like "too much for the little women to wrap their minds around". There are just as many stupid guys out there as there are women. I have always been told I was "different" than most women in that I have no problem speaking my mind or going after and getting what I want but I assumed that was false. I don't buy this helpless stupid chick routine. Especially now that I see how it makes us look. It just seem ridiculous to me that we are judged as inferior because of our gender...still

i am not a man basher by any means, but i do get tired of having to stand on the sidelines while the "boys club" does their thing. but then again, maybe men say the same thing about us. i am vapid....what do i know?

I agree Chris, I haven't been treated this way because I don't post much. I would have no problem telling someone where they can stuff it. Folks tend to not like that too much ;) I am more of an observer. There are a few groups where the women are treated as equals but not too many. Too many keyboard warriors out there I suppose. I would like to think that they wouldn't dare behave this way in public.

In my own little pea brain, I have never considered vaping a guy thing at all.

When I first started some of my best and most valued mentors were of the female persuasion.

And they are still some of my go to pros when I have a question.

And they smell better than I do as well.

Just saying.......................

I'm not sure where all this is coming from but perhaps it is in your area? Or younger males in groups? I certainly don't fit the helpless woman stereotype and have no problem taking care of my own needs. I could care less if my clouds are up to anyones standard or if they like my mod or not. If I did feel like being a cloud chaser then I would. I'd never let anyone stop me from competing if that was my thing. I'll bet you will find others here that share your interest. Why not start a thread on "Lady chasers" (if thats your thing) and see what response you get. There may be more of you out there than you think.

I thought about it Rich, our market is quickly getting over saturated around here. I think I will stick to helping who I can online and friends of mine that ask for my input. I have a few converts under my belt :D I think it would help more if the shops that are out there would take a look at us older folks instead of catering to the young bucks that just want to chase clouds. We do have most of the disposable $$$ I find it more intimidating that someone walks into a vape shop full of young 20 somethings that as someone said to me earlier "looks like the fell face first into a tackle box". There is nothing wrong with that imo but I think they need to have a lil more variety in their employees.

ld, it's just something I have noticed among the face book groups I am a part of. I am not a cloud chaser, that isn't my goal. I just wanted to quit smoking. I do like clouds though. It just bugs me, and I suppose there is no answer. It's just human nature I guess. I wanna go yell at someone to get off my lawn lol.

Well, I guess its a good thing that I don't hang out on FB.:p I would be exhausted with the daily "blasting, and blazing" of the ignorant retards that talk that kind of shit. I have personally mentored more than a handful of "male vapers", so those dumb dumbs can fuck off.

Any person who thinks like that is an inbred, knuckle dragger in my book.

Vaping is a lot things, "intimidating" is not one of them though .. at least not to me. And as far as the basic tools that are used in rebuilding, I have never met a Woman who didn't know what pliers, and a flat/phillips head screwdriver is. But, there is also a intellectual, and psychological difference between a female, and a Woman ;)

I got my ass kicked by two older sisters, 7 and 9 years older, for years. I learned to respect the "fairer" sex at a young age. The only thing I assume that I can do better than a majority of women is accurately pee standing up...and I'm sure that there's a few women out there well practiced in that art as well.

Not all FB groups are like that, for any vapor... ;) You have to find the ones you can like enough to stay.

how many women do you know owns drills or dremels? I sure do not..
but I have figured out which drippers are decent without having to drill, and when to ask for some kind of help when I need it..

but one must use some kind of common sense.. if you are not happy in any group, website, etc., then it is time for you to find somewhere else you can be happy in and around. :)

Woman of yesterday use to smoke those 100 type of cigarettes being slender, and long, well at least the classy woman anyway. This may have something to do with the image woman have been portrayed over the years by men with really wanting to keep it that way in their minds. How many women compared to men have smoked cigars on a regular basis, not that many! So I guess like 100 slim cigarettes women should use egos, and let the men vape the Big Boys like cigars. Just my observation on this matter you bring up, Tootsie, Baby Cakes!

I think the real reason that vaping started out as a "boys club" is because of simple demographics. More men smoke, and always have. Look at the demographics. In 2012 there were 42 million smokers in the US alone. 20.5% of men smoke, while only 15.8% of women smoked, across the board. So that leads me to believe that more men are vaping. Men are also more likely to turn something into a "hobby", which is what is happening now. Economic surveys have shown that men generally start and stop hobbies at a much higher rate than women. In theory, more men vaping, and more men turning vaping into a hobby equals the "boys club" mentality". This is just my observation, and not a jab at women or anything. I, for one, can talk vape with anyone, male or female.

Also, I am not "compensating" for my lack of manliness by using big mods. I use them because they allow me to vape quite awhile. I go through two mnke 26650 bats a day, and like 10-12 mils of juice. If I could vape a cig-a-like and get that kind of experience all day long, I would. As for my obsession with firearms? I have to compensate for the fact that my wife makes me drive a kia.

Pretty much anywhere men are allowed will turn into a boys' club eventually. As a man, that makes me disappointed; as a human being, it makes me sick. (Women shouldn't even need "safe spaces" where men aren't allowed, but i'm sorry to say that they are unfortunately absolutely necessary, no matter what the butthurt MRA crowd thinks about it. But don't get me started on those assholes.) Men should stick to what they know best, which is how to crash two things together to make a cool pile of useless garbage (and then whine until women clean up the mess they've made for them).

Let's just get this out here in the open: women can do anything, and are more often than not far better at it than men are... and that's without having that testosterone-fueled competitive bullshit constantly flushing all pretense of pseudo-rationality out of their stupid apelike bodies.

Honestly, being a man, i have no right to an opinion on this topic (or a few others ahem), but i wanted to wave my flag to let you all know i'm firmly on your side. Fuck those bros. Put them in their place where they belong. Give 'em hell when they act up. We are senseless animals sometimes and need to be smacked down once in a while.

But (as Neil Young said) "take my advice: don't listen to me" - do it your way.

My two cents: I've been familiar with the handling and use of tools since I was knee-high to a grasshopper. The first thing my Dad taught me when I learned to drive is how to change my own oil and I did so using his shop and pit for years. I owned my own table saw at 20-something until it was sold on auction two weeks ago. I'm a trained and very proficient shingler and I own my own air nailer and compressor. I own a dremel and a cordless drill. I can solder (not exceedingly well, but well enough to have fixed an eGo and a regulated mod that needed a quick fix.) I've wired a basement to code and to the satisfaction of inspectors. I'm a better handy-man than well over half the men I've been with. I can even build Ikea furniture without the instructions. Being handy and mechanical is far more dependant on interest than it is gender.

I'm not afraid to ask anything or to admit I don't know something... there was a LOT I didn't know as a new vaper, and I asked a LOT of questions. If someone was rude or unsupportive, I asked someone else. Luckily, I met some terrific and incredibly knowledgeable people in this community that don't seem to tire of my questions. Thanks to them, I vape what I want, how I want... and when I need good advice, I always get it. I vape anything from eGo Twist styles with fill'n'vapes to high end mechanicals with some fairly advanced rebuildables. I like them all.

To sum up, ladies AND men.... at the end of the day, we're all vapers. If you're using anything from an eGo to a unicorn mech mod with a super-octo-stupendo-mega-twisted-ribbonwrapped-figure8-mondo-coil build instead of cigarettes, you're winning. End of story. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Ask until you get useful answers, dismiss those who have tiny competitive agendas, and hold your head high. If you're safely and responsibly using a heating device to vaporize ejuice for your enjoyment, you're a vaper in my books. It doesn't matter what your weapon of choice is, and anyone can play.

Yeah, this pretty well sums up my thoughts too. The first person to advise me on getting an e-cig was a female mod on a non-vaping forum I was on. Turns out, she had also been on ECF forever and helped me a lot getting started.

I think the problem is your on FB groups that were probably started by men and they like their circle jerk society as-is ....it's a bunch of crap, IMO.

Hell, just look at Shan or Mamu...I'd love to see a guy tell them what they can or can't do.... :D

thing is.. i don't own any tools, like drills etc.. i know i am not the only person not to own tools..
but i am happy to know there are others that do and can use them..
trust me, i have a wish list.. and its got a few new "toys" on it..

still.. change things, if you aren't happy.. or don't have what's needed..
find your happy spot.. that's why we all have choices, its what we decide to do that matters in the end.

Choose your groups and men and women wisely.

The fact that the women on this post have felt comfortable to say these things about men and they still haven't been trolled or put down speaks volumes for vapingunderground.

it should be about not smoking... gender has nothing to do with ecigs... then about hobby.. its life saving and its fun.. we shouldn't even go there with the male chauvinist crap... I ignore it and go around town with my mods... some people back away from me thinking its a weapon... lol... then again i'm also limping along with my cane.. more lol....so I just want to add my 2 cents and say vaping has come a long way since I started 4 years ago with lots of improvements and I for one enjoy it all...

Mrs. Uncle took all of my power tools away from me quite a number of years ago.

And for good reason.

But at least I have the manual tools to build RBAs with.

Mostly because she has not found them yet;)

My girlfriend was intimidated by the building aspect of vaping. I told her it can be hard and possibly dangerous. So after watching me build coils she says she will stick with her Itaste and kanger protank 3. It took some time and learning but she now drips on a Hana with a tobh atty and loves it! I feel like most girls find mechanicals confusing and a waste of time. But really, you gotta be willing to learn to get into dripping in my opinion.
