New to Building, need help

So I've been online looking at mods, the majority are clones, because right now I can't afford an authentic, but one mod recommended by a friend was the Panzer. The color wasn't specified but I watched a review on it and I was just hoping to get more opinions or recommendations. Also I need recs on Rda's to get. My goal is to get clouds. Good. Thick. Clouds. I'm new to this so I figured I'd ask more people that have been doing this longer. And I forgot to mention the battery i would most likely need for more power. More pull.

The Panzer mods have a great reputation.

And don't think twice about it being authentic as opposed to a clone. Lots of great clones out there and I own a few of them and they work just fine! And for the price of one authentic you can purchase two or even three clones.

As for a battery, you will want to use a protected IMR battery. I will wait for the other members that are into cloud chasing to make their suggestions on this and the RDAs. Myself I prefer the regulated mods and RBAs. And make sure you get a good charger. I like my Xtar VPI and it can even "repair" batteries that have been discharged passed the recommended voltage.

Oh man thanks! I found that helpful. Now I don't feel too bad about wanting a clone. And the battery advice helps a lot too. What RBA's would you recommend?

I love blowing huge fluffy white clouds so the things I look for in a mech mod are a hybrid top cap, a solid 1-piece copper tube and a simple copper/brass recessed button magnetic switch..I prefer 26650 mods but they are excellent 18650 mods out there like the BCV XXIX..
Personally I don't do clones so I can't make a recommendation on one, but there might be some that are good..I don't know for sure....I've never owned one
Anyway, good luck and I hope you enjoy cloud chasing as much as we do... Its a lot of fun fogging up my room under the blacklight..Lol..

The mutation x v2 looks to be a cloud machine. Authentics are cheap and clones are dirt cheap. Copper mods will have less voltage drop, but a stainless panzer will perform very well and stainless is obviously more durable.

My reccomendations are as follows: 18650- xxix clone, VTC4/5(efest 30/35), dark horse clone. 26650- 2six clone, purple or green efests, 30mm tobh. On a note to this I have bought my mods and atties from fasttech. Had no issues, just be sure to read discussions and reviews on each piece before you buy.

Definitely purchase a clone if you have a budget.
Authentic mods are mostly just a bragging right to me,:p whatever delivers your contentment!

Hybrid copper mods give you the best conductivity and power in mechs usually yes...but being new to mech mods you have to know if you do go the "hybrid top cap route" like on XXIX a you have to know this....hybrid top caps connect the positive of the battery directly to the positive pin of the atty....there is no pin in between the two to act as a conductive barrier....Whatever atty you buy if you use a setup like this then the positive screw on the atty must stick out past the bottom of the 510 connection it is screwed into....If your positive pin on the bottom of your atty is flush or recessed and you screw it onto a hybrid top cap it will not make a proper connection causing a short AT the battery and bad things can happen....sometimes really bad things....and when you connect your atty to your mech screw the atty in to the hybrid top cap then screw the top cap onto the mod...that way the atty is secure and the pin is sticking out as far as it can and makes solid connection with the battery

There are a lot of great copper mech clones at good prices out there...I would find one like the Stingray X that has both options and start out using the standard top cap....then when you're more comfortable building and you know for sure you have the right atty to do so...then use the hybrid adaptor.

I have a Panzer clone that was given to me. I really like it. I may have to get a magnet for it though. As far as an rda, I love the Magma for flavor. It is the only one I've tried so far. I mainly use tanks.

I agree, I have 10 clone mechs and i got them for the price of maybe 2 and a half authentics...but I must disagree about the "bragging rights" ...well...I'll be polite and call it a "thing"....whoever says it's just bragging rights has never owned a high quality authentic mech mod...my hcigar copper Nemesis might have an average of .2 less Voltage drop on my "Greek Vapors" edition authentic...but the threading (and even though it's a dual spring system) and the button action blow away any of my three Nemesis clones that all have magnets in the switches. And unlike the clones, even after I didn't use it for months to keep it nice, the locking ring has never gotten stuck.

The same goes for my authentic Black Copper Stingray....I love my Stingray X clone but I threw the switch against the wall in anger mid fixing it till I got it adjusted just right and with the right o-ring in it so it would make good contact and it still gives me shit while the authentic has half the throw, smoother threads, no button issues and is just a dream.

I ain't rich, one of these was a Tax Return splurge and the other was a "help me get over the depression of my divorce" since I can't drink Impulse buy. I'm not sayin...I am just sayin... ;)

The Magneto is a good original and cheap beginners mod. If I'm not mistaken, meanwhile there's a version 3. I own the version 2 (in brass) and I like it a lot, due to the telescopic ability, I can utilize either my AW with button tops or my VCT5 with flat tops, without going through the hassle of adjusting the mod.
Regarding RDAs, it depends on how you like the airflow, single coil ability, or not. I personally like the Mutation X V3 in that regard. Excellent airflow control, from tight to wide open for cloud chasing, as well as a extra wide bore drip tip, or use the adapter for 510 drip tips. Single or more coil builds, and it's cheap and original as well. The CLT is a good RDA as well. However, for flavor there are cheap clones. Personally, I like my Tugboat V2 and TOBH V2, and both of them are clones.

I agree but if you're going to get a Magneto I strongly recommend getting the authentic....the second mech I bought was the black chome clone from fast tech of the version 1...it was the cheapest, most dangerous piece of garbage I ever bought. The threading is horrible in the telescoping and it's very loose and mismatched and wouldn't hold together tightly. It's the only mech I popped a "vapesafe" fuse in with a protank...sometimes cheaply priced is cheaply made...for a couple extra bucks the authentic Magneto is definitely worth it...for safety's sake

Hi Mad,
Those clouds I posted earlier in this thread were blown under the blacklight on my copper 26650 BFM...yes it was pricy at $200 but its made here in CA locally... It does indeed use a hybrid brass top cap, copper contacts, copper button, naval brass magnetic switch and has a very low voltage drop firing my sub-ohm builds..
This mod came with a warranty and superb customer service ...I figured I'd
pay once and have a high performance mod that will last, and have had it over a year now with no issues with it whatsoever.....polished copper is easy on the eyes too....lol

I have to agree I like those mods, and I do use hybrid caps on my stringray mods. Furthermore I am not trying to start an authentic vs. clone debate...too many wasted threads on that already. All I was saying is that particular clone didn't hold up. I got a brass nemesis clone from FT that I loved and used heavily till I sold it to a friend getting into vaping so he'd have something good and cheap to start with. I am all about waiting for the reviews and the posts from other vapors to buy something new...It's more becasuse I am on a budget than anything, not because I don't want every new shiney thing that comes out :) Although, I don't have any 26650's anymore...I played with one for a bit but I am happy with my 18650's and didn't see the point of having to rebuy batteries and RDA's any everything when I don't build low enough to need that extra little bit and have more than enough stuff for my 18650 mechs :)

I also have had an 18650 XXIX for about 2 yrs now that's still a hard hitter..this was my very first mech..26650 BFM was next and recently I got my first VW box mod, the 150w IPV3..
it's just that as my vaping learning curve evolved I learned that both mechs and VW mods have a place in my daily vape.
I've never owned a mech clone but I'm sure they are ones out there that are very good and easily affordable....

I've had a few panzer and recently got the latest one, a copper panzer clone. It's the only one I've actually liked. If you buy a panzer don't waste your money on the authentic, the clones hit as hard and the coppers hit harder. I'd recommend the hell fire panzer. Beast. I just got a Americlone buster and this thing is awesome

I think the TOBH has better flavor and yes I have a chuff style cap for it, but the Mutation X V3 is a great little cloud machine, it's everything the V2 was supposed to be and now that they have real phillips head screws and a drip tip adaptor for standard drip tips included for less than the V2 you can't go wrong with it for the price :)

For clouds, IMO the CLT V3 might even be better than the Mutation X V3. And I do have them both.

For me the biggest clouds are blown on my Dark Horse with the 14mm (I.D.) chuff cap..I have all the RDA's mentioned above but the Dark Horse is the winner, for me anyway...

I also have them all. The downside of the Dark Horse is the well. It's small compared to the CLT and the Mutation.
