Serpent smm - popping sound help

Ive had this tank for a while and have 3 others that are smooth as silk on the draw. I’ve heard this is from hot spots so I changed the coil and made sure there aren’t any hotspots but it’s still happening.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yup same happened to me initially with the SMM. More cotton for sure to reduce the popping, but key is to keep it fluffy as possible, because as soon as you start compressing it too much to stuff in the holes you end up with too much cotton that way and will inhibit the wicking.

Also helps to kind of wall off the air flow, meaning spread the cotton pretty wide to block off the area between the posts.
