So I am guessing this is the right area of this message board to tell my story.

A couple of weeks ago, a local shop near me was having a grand opening. They have been open for a few months, but wanted to get some return business and a little bit of a following before holding an open house.

They did a really good job.. DJ, Soda, donuts, cookies, and vape girls (3 girls scantily dressed in all black , walking around ), discounts on everything for the day... and every person got a free 10 ml bottle of their house juice.

So I sampled all their house juices and picked the flavor I wanted. I told them what I wanted and what nicotine strength... And this is where I got a little put off... The girl that I gave my free juice order to, grabbed an empty bottle, squirted some nicotine from a juice bottle ( I could not tell if she measured the exact quantity or not), and then took another squirt bottle which was labeled with the flavor I requested, and squirted that into my bottle.. And she continued squirting it until the bottle started over flowing because she wasn't paying attention. The juice got all over her hands (and her hands were not gloved, they were her bare hands). So after it overflowed, she grabbed a paper towel, wiped her hands, and then used the same paper towel to wipe the bottle. She put the bottle top on, and then took a pre printed label and wrapped it around the bottle. She handed me the bottle and said that she was sorry if the bottle is a little sticky..

Should I be this put off by this? Am I over reacting? Is this normal?

Any other place that I have seen mix their own juice, the employees use gloves, and use syringes to measure the amount of nicotine, etc.

I know exactly where you're talking about! However I've never seen them not use gloves. This is sooo funny. I'm reading this story and I'm saying to myself this guy has to live by me. Sure enough, I see Morris County NJ and my thoughts are confirmed.

I've only seen them use gloves when mixing nic. What they do is they make a 24mg bottle and a 0mg bottle typically and mix together. Other times they take 100mg and put 0 mix in. Their measurements need to be improved upon a bit though. I think some of it is done by "eyeing" which I'm not a fan of.

It's a bit weird, but I think they are still very much in a trial and error stage and only 1 of the partners there really knows much about mixing.

Never seen that done . I would probably burst out laughing . She should have cleaned the bottle, at least .

She definitely was not an employee. She was probably from a modeling agency hired for the day for the open house. However, that was strike 2 for that place for me. I was put off by something else they did when they first opened, but I chalked it up to being only open a few days at the time.

Luckily for me, there are 5 shops within 10 miles from me. They seem to be popping up all over in my county

Overreacting? Not at all. I would absolutely be put off by this experience.

Although it may not be a reflection of the shop but just the employee herself. If the shop is convenient for you and you want to go back, why not talk to the owner about your experience and see how they respond. THAT would be the time to make your decision.

This is why i don't trust any vendors or places that make their juice 'in-house'... who the fuck knows what they are doing behind the scenes..

I have a shop near my work that is on the campus of a pretty hippie-ish college.. The people there don't seem to be the cleanest folks.. If I cant trust them to wash their bodies on a daily basis.. why would I trust them to properly make juice in a clean environment? lol no thanks..

I would not make a blanket call on this . The places i have gone to are neat ,the people groomed and polite . Peak out back, and see a clean area with everything covered and someone with gloves on . Lots of Band M 's have folks with half a brain working there , who do care about cleanliness . This owner may not know whats going on , it's his investment (or may not care ).

hell, just to have a vape shop near me would be awesome. But I agree, I would talk to the owner and make sure he/she tells employees or helpers how to wear gloves and the safety aspect of what they are doing....

LOL yea its pretty a hideous mug of Chip. 'That Dont Make No Sense' got cut off from the top which sucks.

Not sure if you heard, but Ant got fired from XM last week for a 'racial rant on twitter' so that sucks.

Yeah, I still actually check out Wackbag, and I follow all of them on twitter. Opie just tweeted that him and Jim will be live on the air next Monday to explain everything. So I have no idea what is going to happen. I have been an avid listener since 1998, and I was actually at the first ever homeless shopping spree at Short Hills Mall in 1999

thats pretty bad.. if a local vape shop cant be competent they deserve to go out of business, and other more competent people can take over. for example every single shop near me sells juice that taste like shit likely due to poor quality ingredients and not enough flavor. the most highly recommended shop in my town dilutes their juice with water and lists it as an ingredient

what mg juice were you using??? a low mg I would not be concerned... if they were mixing in a little 100mg and then mixing in vg/pg base ot would be a concern...

I do find some irony here given you screen name... :D

I would think it should be measured always. I would never "Eyeball" anything. :(

I would talk to Anthony. I go there somewhat often. In fact if you saw the V3 flip there it was sitting on a stand I printed for them. :). In fact I might say something to Anthony about this, he is really trying hard with getting some mixes and takes it pretty seriously. I don't think he would be thrilled about hearing people using bare hands.

Very interesting Amanda..
And what is odd is that it doesn't bother me at all if a chef doesn't use gloves. I spent two years in culinary school in the early 90's and we never were taught to cook with gloves.
But I have spent the past ten years in the vitamin and healthcare manufacturing business, and anything that goes into a bottle and is mixed to measurements to be ingested, was also done while gloved up, hair nets, white gowns, etc.. Believe me, I am not saying that I want them to be all gowned up, but I think since they are dealing with straight nicotine concentrate and spilling it all over, gloves should have been worn , at least while in front of the public

It sounds as if the nic was premixed to the approximate strength and then flavoring added (which is what I do at home), so the risk to her in spilling the nic probably wasn't a big deal - the OP didn't say what strength he vapes, but let's say the nic was only at 14mg or so.

Still, I agree it doesn't look professional - but not particularly unhygenic I would think? At least no worse than drinking soda out of a can without washing the lid off first LOL

Did she squirt in on her neck and let it run down her cleavage? Then I would not be offended.

I guess not unhygienic. But I just didn't think it was professional I guess. Especially when she used the same paper towel to wipe her hands and then my bottle.. That kinda skeeved me out and I was getting it in 12 mg nicotine.

I do not think it could be any worst then this place where they make liquid

I find any shop that mixes juice in the backroom sketchy, for the few juices I even buy any more (I mostly DIY) I make sure they are made in a proper facility, not to mention the last time I even looked at the flavors in a local shop, it looked like I was looking at TFA's flavor catalog, nothing original, all single flavors.
