I've used it a while back only in 26ga.I'm thinking about ordering some of this wire to build my coils with.
Is there anything I need to know about this wire, or is it ready to use right away. I'm planning on using this for macro coils. Any input would be appreciated.
What he said about dry firing stainless steel is important. Don't fire it like you would kanthal or nichrome. Just a very dull orange glow is as far as you need to go.I use it 99.99% of the time, love it. It has lower resistance so if you regularly use 26g Kanthal figure 28g with SS, but just use steam-engine to do your figuring. Also when dry firing, pulse and only pulse to a red maybe little bit orange don't overdue it.
Also I also recommend this with Kanthal, don't waste your money on Chinese shitwire get some quality Sandvik wire. I recommend
- Kidney Puncher (most expensive)
- Atomizer Wick
- Temco
I even recommend this method with Kanthal and niChrome. The only thing excessive dry firing does to ANY wire is break it down quicker, melt insulators, etc. There is no need to excessively fire the coils up for gently pulsing a few times is more than enough to work out the hots spots and clean. What he said about dry firing stainless steel is important. Got 550ft of it on Amazon for $17. 22g-36g and it works perfectly. It ohms out differently than Kanthol so be weary. But overall it's good wire and I'll be buying more when I run outI'm thinking about ordering some of this wire to build my coils with.

It's definitely the #1 reason people have problems with stainless steel, or don't get good flavor from it. Just firing it way too hard and wrecking it.I even recommend this method with Kanthal and niChrome. Yeah they abuse the wire, like I mentioned I even follow this with Kanthal (can't stand niChrome) and I've seen a very noticeable difference in coil life. I've even been experimenting with not dunking the coils when cleaning. I now just pulse a bit, brush off the crud under tap water then pop in my Ultrasonic for about 5 min's. Not sure if it's a placebo effect but it's looking to also extend the life of my coils. I use between 38g-44g wrapping wire so my coils are a bit more delicate and this seems to have benefit them. It's definitely the #1 reason people have problems with stainless steel, or don't get good flavor from it.
