When I smoked smokers were pretty much outcast by the majority and looked down upon.
Now as a vaper being looked down upon by the majority AND the smokers too....

Ohh well they can all just kiss my wrinkly old butt.
As I watch the smokers die off while vaping away.

This is so true Cromwell

I was recently cursed by having to visit California - and the anti-vaping rhetoric spewed at me by smokers was shocking to say the least - it was worse than the non-smokers. My daughter there who has never smoked is convinced I'm doing myself more harm :(

In Seattle, it was a bit different but equally disheartening. My daughter there, who was/is a social smoker, converted to using a Juul I sent her about a year ago. She said she wished she could vape more when out partying, but "vape culture" is unappealing to her o_O

ahh one does not have to live the 'vape culture' to vape.
I have neither a beard nor a beer belly :)
Tats neither.

I have never hung out in a vape lounge nor attended a Cloud Comp.
They do have such in the larger towns around here.

But then I am pretty much a Lone Wolf anyway ;)

Too many in modern society have the hive like mentality. If one listens to metal they have to wear black and a leather jacket. If one vapes they have to wear vape clothing and hang out at vape events. If one is a gearhead they have to wear a car makers brand T-shirt and hang out at car shows. Etc etc.

I just focus on living my life. Nothing I do is a detriment to others so I can care less what the over-opinionated jackasses of the world think about how I live my life. If someone wants to smoke then go ahead and smoke, if someone wants to vape then go ahead and vape, if some one chooses do do neither then I say good for them. Regardless, I can honestly care less because their life is not mine to live. If I focus on what others think, do or say then I'm stealing time away from living and enjoying my life. I just do what I do and if people don't like it I have no problem with telling them to fuck off, laugh at them and walk away.

Heaven knows I've climbed on my proverbial soap box on several occasions when it comes to defending my vaping, and will continue to do so. But sometimes I'm weary of it, especially with Marlboro-sucking rednecks who believe everything they hear on the news or see on Facebook. If they wanna take that article from clueless.com that demonizes vaping over my 3 1/2 years of ardent research, fine, go ahead and do that. Sometimes I do get tired of defending myself to holier-than-thous who don't sleep with me or pay my bills, they're gonna say and believe whatever the propaganda-of-the-week is anyway. I'm likely gonna outlive every damn one of 'em and I'm cool with that.

And I suppose that vaping in front of smokers is proselytizing a bit
Guilty as charged

I kinda think its important us older, unhipster types vape in front of everyone possible

I was truly shocked my youngest daughter was worried about vape culture - she is most individualistic of my offspring and has never been good at marching (a chip off the old block there, lol)

It really sucks that the vape "culture" is a hipster circle jerk. Nothing will make people hate something like having hipsters associated with it. You can guarantee if they get involved, anyone with sense is immediately opposed to it (understandably).

What sucks even more is when you get swept up in that stereotype because you have some tattoos and a beard.

As a middle-age woman I work hard to keep the beard at bay

I am not really sure what being a Hipster is.
But from what little I understand about it I am NOT a hipster.

Pseudo Alpha Females, drenched in fake irony. Pretends to like modern literature. 100s of thousands of dollars in student loans for a art degree. 80's throwback fashion. Super annoying and like talking to an animated corpse.

I would like it twice if I could. Another central tenet of hipsterism aside from irony is that somehow Bukowski is a real poet and not just a drunken fool and they looooove living in shitty neighborhoods because their suburban and upper class child hoods were not dangerous enough.

I have also never met one that wasn't a liberal, drank good beer or could fight.

So I guess that Cheap sneakers, Dickie Khaki slacks and a pocket Tshirt is not hipster attire?

I do wear a boggin in the cold weather though.
Seldom wear Bill caps.
Do have a couple of go to hell caps though.

Need to rob a lumberjack after he was working and wear the clothes, then act like you can be a man (but are really just a man boy). Also need poor hygiene and to chase girls around who are uninteresting and only interested in themselves. Then complain about how hard your life is while completely dismissing the fact your life sucks only because you are a lazy twat.

Kind of like Drug Store cowboys?

Maybe their parents did at that age back in the 1980s
I think it's more recent slang. I don't ever remember hearing that in 80's or 90's.

I was watching a baseball game recently and I forget which car manufacturer commercial came on but there was a hipster standing with his girl looking at the vehicle and he said " that's a bad mama jama". I busted out laughing.

So a hipster is the more rugged metro sexual? :teehee:

Do they say things like " bad mama jama "?

Think I'll stick with my denim jeans, long sleeve t's/flannels and my trusty baseball cap with the curved bill. :D

More "rugged looking" (insert gender pronoun here). They are a bunch of weak sissy boys and shitty artists.

Now I'm torn. Your old wrinkly ass may not dress as a hipster but starting a thread about being a persecuted minority vaper and treating it like a support group is most definitely hipster behavior.

if you really want to confuse one. Ask them how they came to be a hipster. If they even acknowledge it the answer is always a non answer.

Is that a Polaroid camera???

did not know they still existed....

The irony of that is, that camera she's holding wasn't even a GOOD Polaroid camera. Those things were pieces of junk. (Was it called a "Swinger" or something like that?) They came out at least 10-15 years after the Polaroid Land cameras, which were the real thing. They want vintage but count on nobody remembering when something was just a piece of junk.

To add to the discussion about hipsters and clothes, to do it right, you have to get your parents to pay an arm and a leg for you to buy clothes that look like they're worn out pieces of shit, but they really just came from some damn store in the mall where the kids that work there wouldn't even look one of us in the eye. $85 and up for a pair of jeans that look just like some you could pick up at Goodwill for $2.50. Colors that don't go together, prints/checks/plaids/patterns all in a mixed-up mess, old sweaters nobody else has been caught dead in for about four decades. You gotta put on at least $500 worth of clothes like that before you can step out of the house to do your cafe-klatching, and facetiming, and shit. Oh, and if you're a guy, you gotta have a man bag. Don't leave home without it.

LMAO. Reminds me of Guy that lived in my neighborhood in the early to mid 90's. On a hot summer day he always wore black clothes with a black trench coat and black hat. That was a bit extreme even for the myself and friends that were all metal heads. :giggle:

I think it's the men's hipster clothing that cracks me up. It just says " I'm trying too hard to be different".

The women clothing choices don't really bother me. Take the green haired girl for instance. Remove the hat, change the belt to black leather, put a rock band T-shirt on her and it's 80's punk rock attire for women all the way.

I can only comment on the clothes. I've not had any interactions with a hipster because I don't know any and I have no fashion sense.

To me having no fashion sense is having some common sense.
I wear what I want to wear and not because of some fad or others wearing it.

Clothes do NOT make the man.
Just a sales slogan started by the 'fashion' industry.
Absolutely agree. I wear what I like and what's comfortable for me. Hell, even my teachers in high school used to ask me about why I was wearing a baseball cap all the time. To me the answer was obvious and was a dumb question so I always gave them a smart assed answer. One response was " because this institution forces me to wake up too early in the morning so I don't have the time to run a brush or comb through my hair". :)
