If it spins around perfectly smooth, you should be good. I like having that little bit of extra distance between my swivels and where I work... it's easier to keep the cores snug if they're a bit longer than really necessary for your build, but the downside is you're wasting more wire so it kind of depends on whatever it is you prefer. There's this guy named M.Terk who likes to make his cores a lot longer than the house that I live in. :xD:

Haha, I've seen his vid and some of my decores have been like that. Think i got carried away! I had to change to a board anyway for when i get my lt spinner. I was using my vice to hold up a lamp so now it runs smooth but i can't see it! Oh well...

I didn't want to be one-upping or anything the other day, I rewicked this alien tonight though and decided to try another picture, been my favorite mtl vape since I made it

I'd like to try 46 on like 2x22, I want to make a hyooj build on the TS, if I get time today

But use a vice to wrap it this time, that stuff is like silly string

Loool I'm guilty in doing 3 ft sections. I stopped because honestly the quality and the twisting is a problem. I got it down pretty good because I have to wait till my landlord leaves. She lives downstairs. Her fat ass daughter complains about everything. That will hopefully be ending soon.

I may be able to move to my own building soon hopefully. Prayers definitely needed lol.

When she leaves I'll spin as many decores as possible because actually making the alien coils isn't too loud. I go at medium speed

I'm feeling smug as shit, I believe I have aliens down

Had to make more today to be sure yesterday wasn't just good luck or something, and I did both 40 and 38 just to make sure I could change gauges
IMG_20180510_150647_crop_664x936.jpg

(I also tried 46 but we won't talk about that)

I just realized that the swivels I ordered through Amazon yesterday are coming from China  :slowclap:

...bet they get here before the low gauge wire I ordered from KBee, though :teehee:

Can't wait to try it out. Everyone is asleep at the moment. Like wtf. It's 89° sunny and everyone is sleeping.

I will warn you; the Spin LT does not allow for radial movement (up & down, side to side), so wide coils that don't chuck exactly centered are challenging. To solve this, I attach one of my high dollar ball bearing swivels to it for some movement allowance until I get some wraps going so I can chuck it a little more centered. All that said; it still beats the shit out of just fishing swivels! Well worth the money spent! You'll love it!

Do you have a pic?
Hey guys,
I’m still learning how to make aliens. I haven’t read this entire mega thread yet but was wondering if I can decore older clapton spools I have laying around & use it as my alien wrap?
Not sure if this was already brought up, just thinkin it might save some time. I’ve mastered all the fused claptons, different gauges, Etc. The aliens will be my next big challenge. Awesome thread btw

i made my very first pairs from a spool of geekvape 26/32 clapton wire. it was hard af to decore, but i got aliens out of it. the problem is that most of it is using too low of a gauge for the wrap wire, so it wont be the best vaping alien coil. the lv stuff has 34, which is getting closer to being ideal. i cant see properly what the spool from avs says, but if its higher than 34, that is ideal (36 or higher is always recommended for wrap wire on any build. i only use 34 or lower if i am going to polish it after, which removes almost half the wrap wire in the process).

good luck and make sure to post pics of your results.

Wondering if Bre can cut a length....then strip some of the wrap back each end, plonk the core in a drill ...hold the other end with pliers and reverse the drill in the opposite direction they wrapped it ...that might straighten the core and help loosen up the wraps a bit?

thats what i ended up doing, and it was still quite a struggle. i dunno about the ud/avs or lv stuff, but the geekvape stuff i used had very rough/irregular core wire and the 32 gauge wrap tightness was pretty inconsistent as well. in some spots it was so tight it that the core wire had grooves in it, in other spots it was loose.

Hi guys, I'm about to attempt a simple 3 core alien, and I'm wondering if there's any sort of rule of thumb regarding the difference in gauge between the cores and the wrap?
I've got a reel of everything from 24 to 36 now, but I'm going to aim for about 0.5R per coil on my dual setup, so about 0.25R finished. So I'm looking at using 3x28 for core, now I know the alien wrap doesn't make much difference in resistance, but what would it turn out best with, 34 or 36?

Just got as far as the stretch, got it all nice and the spring angles just under 90 degrees like most builders are saying. However I'm having trouble with the actual aliening, in that I'm not able to find a finger grip of the decore which lets it slide smoothly through my finger/thumb, no matter how tightly or loosely I hold it, it's going jerk-jerk-jerk-jerk-jerk, and about 1 in 5 times it jerks it fecks the aliening up.! Has anyone found a grip that is easier and smoother to feed? How about a bit of talc or something on the fingers, would that help?

You could get some e-juice on your fingers

If it's jerking you may not have your cores centred perfectly. Talcum powder can help or as Meg said, eliquid or even water. But everyones different, we all have slightly different ways of getting it done. Just keep trying mate.

Try holding it as if sand is slipping through your fingers.

You don't want that in your coils.

Double that sentiment, talc won't burn out and it can cause serious lung issues over time

"Talcosis or talc pneumoconiosis is an uncommon form of pulmonary dust disease first recognized over 100 years ago. Talcosis may follow inhalation of relatively low concentrations of talc dust over a long period or exposure to very high concentrations of the dust over a short time"
Well after a few attempts I got the tension and rhythm ok, managed to knock a pair out. Not quite as tidy as I'd like but they'll do for now.

You're right, I did think about residues so I went with nothing in the end, it was just a matter of tension, I may have slightly understretched the decore.

Thanks, they're 3-28/36 all kanthal, 6/5 wraps @ 3mm, ohms out at 0.26 the pair. Vapes like a champ at 75-80W.

Quick question - been puzzling me. Previously I had a pair of fused Claptons (2-28/36, 5.5wrap, 3mm), the build ohmed out at 0.366 the pair, and sweet spot was about 65W.
However, I've now put in a pair of aliens I built (3-28/36, 5.5wrap, 3mm) which ohm out at 0.26 the pair. I was expecting to need at least 75-80W on those, but oddly after a lot of trial high and low, the sweet spot seems to be the same, 65W. How so? Only thing I can think of is the aliens are compressed, whereas with the plain fused I had room to space them slightly.

(Tank: Kylin V2, dual coil)

Aliens do ramp up pretty quick there’s not a whole lot of difference between the two 1 extra 28g core wire ... plus it wicks more efficiently than the fused

As you say compressing them will transfer heat build up between wraps faster than spacing them ...why you tend to see more hot spots with non spaced coils; the current is trying to jump quickly between the wraps

A process for making 4+core aliens (or fused claptons)

Bind drill end with high gauge wire and hot glue, leave at least 1/8" of cores past the glue to insert into chuck

Add a ribbon slider close to the drill end, crimp gently with toothless pliers, make sure it can slide

Bind swivel end same way but leave 1/2" or more for looping around swivel

Pull stick tight while hot glue is still cooling on swivel end

Put cores in center of chuck
IMG_20180708_180057-1080x1920.jpg

Loop other end (past the glue) around swivel

IMG_20180708_180200-1080x1920.jpg

Stretch alien decore to the max, less tension while wrapping = further ahead your ribbon slider can stay

IMG_20180708_180614-1080x1920.jpg

The closer the ribbon slider is to where you're wrapping, the better - 1cm

IMG_20180708_180250-1080x1920.jpg

Scoot ribbon slider along closely - 1 cm for this 5x30 cores, closer for 32g cores, farther for lower gauges

Your advice Is always spot on. Your so helpful. You have a great heart, and it's cool to see good people succeed in building. You wanted this, now to have it. That's pretty cool to me.

Have u ever tried the keyring method instead of the slider way ? Was thinking of trying that method for more than 3 core . I have the patinos spacers already but find they don't work well with 4 core

Forget all that crap about binding and gluing the ends that I posted above lol

Here is a video showing what I learned from Raymo2u's stream the other night for making multiple core stuff by looping both ends of the cores - way faster, and no ribbon slider needed for aliening if you get it right

It's my first video...I'll work on getting the quality lined up better, and maybe smiling next time :D
