Cleaning disposable coils - A good idea?

I was wondering if anyone has tried doing this and how successful it has worked out.

I'm a little sceptical as to whether this is really much of a money saver when I consider the cost of the grain alcohol

You are going to use at least 50ml of the alcohol to clean a coil, so there is probably only 4 coil cleans in one bottle of that. at the best part of £20 for a bottle without taking into account that delivery cost, you can probably pick up 5 coils for under £20 for most sub ohm tanks

This did look interesting though

Is this a good idea health wise though?

I don't know what you consider your time worth but you cannot clean burned cotton and that is why coils wear out. So if you want to spend your time to change the cotton and dry burn those coils go for it! Me I would rather spend the MAXIMUM of $3 and screw in a new one.

Imo. Unless you can replace the wick. Cleaning a head is almost a waste of effort...if coil is gunked fagitaboutit.. have heard people having success using ultrasonic cleaners.

Buying a rebuildable RBA deck is a better idea. Kanger toptank mini rba.. $3.00 on fast tech. 30' wire about $7.00 or less. You need 4 to 6 inches per coil.. so 30' makes a LOT of coils.

I've had customers do it and say the life they got out of the coil by cleaning it wasn't really worth the effort to go through. Once the coil is gunked or that cotton is singed, it's done. If you have the ability to replace the cotton, you may be able to burn the coil clean, but not sure it's worth your time.

Spend the extra 98 cents. Cuts delivery by 15 to 30 days. Plus its the only way I can track packages now. Canada Packet.

With the horror stories I have heard over the years, plus I would never wait months for something I ordered.

I used to clean my coil heads when I used them. My experience was as HBVapeShop said above.

Having said that, I got a lot of extra life out of the heads I took the wicks out of, dry burned the coils and rewicked. I have no idea if that's a workable solution for the heads you're looking at.

I only use rebuildable atomizers now. They are designed to rebuild, it's easy and very inexpensive to do, and they vape great.

I've done it many times and my experience goes similar to the others above except in the cases that the coil is just gunked up from sweeteners or its a stainless coil head.

All i ever use is 99% iso alcohol to soak them a few hrs and a screw with coarse enough threads to act sort of like a file on the coil wire. After a few hrs soaking and intermittently running the screw around the coil surface i run them under hot water, like as hot as i can get it for a few minutes. Then i just let them sit till just barely damp, or if i have time till completely dry, and prime them with some juice and pop them back in.

First few hits are a little rough till the excess moisture evaps but after this my ss coil heads will literally look and taste like new for weeks. I've had the same sense herakles plus ss316l coil for a yr and it still hits and tastes better than any new smok coils I've tried over the last couple years.

I will say i mainly use rda's, but at work and in the car i still use the tank for saving time and ease of use, so i never felt like dropping $20 plus shipping for a new pack of coils when this works so well on it. Now as far as any kanthal coil heads I've tried, yes it works but every few days to a week max i had to do it all again and i had to be a lot more thorough to get them working decent again than on the ss.

Yea, it works but again, it’s just not worth it. You get about a extra day out of them.

I just saw this video the other day. The cotton in my last two coils didnt look burnt at all, so I thought I might be able to salvage them. They just got a little gunked up. I might try some time just to give it a shot.

Look at it this way; you spend $19.99 for a box of 5 SMOK Coils. Each one is worth say $4.00. That's 4 bucks every time you toss one.
Yes. If the coil looks like tar from sweet juice, toss it. I do it but each time I do I say out loud, "there goes 4 bucks!"
It's even more expensive if you buy the Prince coils. A pack is $19.99 for THREE coils. That's $6.66 per coil. Say "bye-bye".

I'm very frugal with things I have, but a hefty spender when there's a sale on hardware/coils, etc.
If you know you're going to toast the coil with sweet liquid, there really isn't a way to get it clean. Like chocolate or candy, etc.
On the other non-gooey, sugar juices, don't wear the hell out of it. When it starts turning color, change it.

Run the coil under really hot tap water. You'll see it lighten up immediately. Turn the coil upside down, put your finger over the opening and blow really hard from the bottom of the coil to push the juice out. Rinse, repeat until most of the sweetness is gone. Use a small dish/cup filled with really hot water again but this time put vodka in the water. Everclear is recommended but expensive whole grain alcohol. I just the cheap stuff. Let it sit overnight. Remove your coil(s) and blow them again to get the water and vodka out. The vodka loosens any juice and sometimes you can see it in the solution. When you blow out most of the liquid in the cotton, place the coils on a paper towel standing up. The following day you have new coils again.

The trick is not to wear your coil past the cleaning point. I vape dark liquids that will start turning the cotton brown. When that happens, change coils. I'm sure you've watched videos about it. But if you don't want to throw $4 to $6 away each time, it's worth it. I also have an ultrasonic cleaner I use for multiple tanks and coils I've even cleaned. I put a 3 tiny drops of dish soap and vodka in there.

This is what I do that works. Others have different methods. Oh, I also bought some pipe cleaners that have thin barbed wire for tough ones and I also bought a set of soft brushes from Amazon that I use inside the hole(s) and to clean the inside of my drip tips.

This is my 2 cents and 5 paragraphs.

Cleaning factory coils is an exercise in futility, just get an RBA deck or better yet an RTA.

Moving to cotton from silica wicks in factory heads made cleaning to extend the life of a coil almost impossible unless one can disassemble and rewick. I still use silica and get about three to four weeks from a head with one cleaning and dry burn at about the two week mark. That's using a clear lightly flavored liquid, about 8ml/day.

Factory coils with cotton wicks are a vendor's bonanza.$$$
