Vaping in public

so this has been a hot topic in another forum im in. Do you vape in public? I'm not talking about outside but more like in bars, restaurants, retail stores, etc. I have had a little flack in some restaurants. Recently, Burger King has put up signs asking patrons not to use "electronic cigarettes", to which my reply is always, "i dont have an electronic cigarette, i have a personal vaping device" and they say "yea, whatever, that too". I've had a friend told he cant vape in tumbleweed although there is no signs posted and he was told it was the managers decision. I have received ZERO flack from bars. What have been some of your experiences?

Some places are cool with it and some are not.

Other than Bob Evans, I have not had an issue.

But I do not chain vape while in these places and I do not emit huge clouds.

I am kinda of stealthy with it which helps.

I live in a nanny state so we can't vape wherever smoking is prohibited(which is everywhere indoors).

Other than home I don't vape indoors. I live in California so there is no smoking in restaurants, bars and what not, in the eyes of a non smoker, vaping might as well be smoking an analog so most places wouldn't allow it.

I haven't had anyone give me flack, haven't pressed the issue, I'll just go outside for a few minutes and have a vape.

I usually don't vape where smoking is prohibited. I've taken a few ninja puffs before, but that's rare. I didn't smoke inside, I don't vape inside. Just my choice.
As to the Burger King thing, if a business specifically prohibits the use of e-cigs and you intentionally disregard their policy then try and play lawyer ball by saying your personal vaporizer isn't an e-cig.... I'd just kick you out at that point. Childish.

On road trips I've stayed in a lot of motels/hotels and we always ask for a non-smoking room and tell them we vape. Some of the time they don't know what I'm talking about so I exhale some vaper at them and so far all have said it's okay to vape in the non-smoking rooms, because it doesn't stink like cigs do. I've learned to exhale is such a way it's hard to see so I have vaped in several places just see if anyone picks up on it. In Oklahoma it's unlawful to vape on any state owned property. It's like a $10 fine and I have yet to get a ticket for vaping.

In ND electronic cigarettes were banned at the same time a cigarettes some fourish years ago? But a motel or my house bring it on.i don't vape too much in public mostly because I'm tired of being asked what that thing is.but today a guy walked up to me when I was working outside grabbed my mod and took a puff and said wow that is actually good and walked off.

I treat people with enough respect, that I vape the same way I would smoke. I do NOT vape in places where smoking is a no no.

I think anyone that is crossing that line, and vaping where smoking is banned, is doing the movement a dis-service. You are pissing people off when you do it. It's looked at by non smokers, the same way smoking is. I know, the smell isn't the same. I know there is no combustion of plant matter.

Anti's and unsure people don't see it that way.

Besides, it's a bit of a courtesy thing. You wouldn't want to be breathing someone's flatulence, and some may see your vape as breathing your germs and bacteria.

I have to disagree a bit on this. In Ohio they passed a non smoking law with nothing outlined as the law. The law was written from non smoking Nazis calling in with suggestions.

The law should never have been on the ballet in that condition.

I work in a laser cutting facility that replaces the air in the building every 3 min all day long. Even if you light a smoke directly next to someone they couldn't smell it due to our exhaust systems. As the law is written, we cannot smoke here. But I allow people to vape all they want. It keeps employees at their stations working instead of wandering outside to add another nail to the coffin. For people that are or were heavy smokers like myself, it keeps the place a bit calmer during stressful situations.

The owners of the facility agree with me on what we do here, and are willing to stand up for the decision if the need arises. They are non smokers to start with and see the difference in production allowing vaping in the facility.

Question SHOULD be, how do non smokers in the work area, feel about it?
If they have no problem, then this is a non issue.
But try that in the stores or restaurants. Bet it's not as accepted.

Lets not forget, many restaurants had smoke eaters for their places. That wasn't good enough for the general public.

I choose not to vape in certain situations just because it's rude IMHO. For example we have a family member that smokes and uses cigalikes while eating at the table, leaves it in her mouth like it's a toothpick. To me that's just rude to the folks around u. Most of my family smokes, so vaping with them is easy. I choose not to do it in restaurants Walmart whatever, I dunno, maybe its the somewhat old school mentality on that, but if ya can't smoke there (not talking about a bar or something) don't suggest u vape there. That's just me, maybe I'm old school. At home I vape wherever, even in my wife's face who is pretty sensitive to stinkies, doesn't bother her at all depending on the juice I'm using.

There are only 3 non smokers there, all of which are management positions... More production makes them happy. Bottom line is product out the door, product out the door is money in our pockets.

But the truth of the matter is none of them mind, and the one that would have an issue likes the faint smell of mine in particular as I add a berry to my tobacco just as a faint offset on the flavor.

Definitely wasn't saying don't vape in the park, the bar, at work within reason, to cover up a bad fart smell (which I do alot) unfortunately the general public is labeling vaping in the same way as analogs, wrong. My wife is very sensitive to cigarettes, vapor depending on the nastier juices doesn't bother her at all, & the ones that have bothered her taste like ass anyway.

Comparing a smoke eater in a restaraunt to the industrial system described is comical.

And running around with the attitude you should be able to vape anywhere you damn well please is asinine.

While it may be a go at his factory, I'd bet that FEW factories, even with such a great air system, would get away with that.

Wow did this start to turn into a shit storm. Let's get some management types involved....

If you got people sneaking off to suck down a couple puffs every so often let's calculate some time...
Let's say for our purposes that 5 min out of each hour is lost to a smoker sneaking a smoke. In 8 hours that is 40 minutes. In a week it is 200 min, in a year it is over 10400 minutes.... That is more then 173 hours you loose in our facility to a smoker. Let them vase and you gain back at least half those waisted hours.

Bottom line of any business is money, don't ever fool yourself to think otherwise. Lay the numbers out can change things quickly.

To fool yourself to think people don't sneak off and do this is ignorant.

To think your management team is letting workers "sneak" off when they are on the clock, then they need canned right along side the workers stealing the company's time. Period.

You get breaks. Smoke on YOUR own damn time.

P.S. I AM a management "type" and a business owner.

And, if those are the numbers you presented to the execs of the company, they are not very bright.

First, just using your out of thin air, statistics, you arrive at about 173 hours. So IF I paid each person 10 bucks an hour, that's nearly 1800 a year. Lets say I have 10 smokers on my crew. That's almost 20 K a year, or the cost of another employee.

Now, I am already giving them 2 10 minute breaks AND a half hour lunch. But for some reason, YOU as my supervisor, think it's acceptable they steal another 40 minutes a day from me? When I am already giving them 50 minutes worth of break time? Why haven't you fired them? Why were they not written up? I'm pretty sure you have a company handbook right? And I'm pretty sure breaks are covered in that right?

Why wouldn't I be better off to fire you, and every worker stealing from me, rather than to put up with your nonsense? I mean, you think that letting them vape only gets me back half the time they are stealing. Obviously, you have no problem with them stealing another 20 minutes. Are you my hero because you recapture 20 of the 40 minutes they are stealing from me?

I fail to see your skewed logic, friend.

By his own admission, smoking is PROHIBITED where he works. So is vaping, according to the laws of his state.

So, yes it IS IMPORTANT what others that work there, think. Even so, it IS against the law.

You should have a wee bit more courtesy than to think the world should yield to vapers. That's part of the reason we are in the mess to begin with.

Worm and wiggle all you want. You said first you don't vape where smoking is illegal, then you admit you did a few times. Stop with the line of bullshit.

Voltaire had one thing right. Common sense isn't so common.....

I have stealth vaped while at outdoor sporting events where I was not in anyone's view at a place where the facility had a no smoking policy. No laws were involved. I also never said or implied the world should yield to vapers. Quit making shit up.
The other times I've seen you be an ass I thought it might be confined to those threads. I guess I was wrong as the pattern seems to keep repeating. I'm done with you.

You're right. I tend to be a prick. Especially with people that think the rules don't apply to them. It's the attitude like yours that fuels the arguments to ban vaping.

So because you lack common sense and decency the rest of us get hung out to dry. Your selfishness screws everyone. Think I'm a jerk. It's all good. I think people like you that push the issue are selfish wankers.

So... If someone had the opinion that stealing from another was ok, we should turn a blind eye, aye?

It is afterall, a difference of opinion. ...

Doesn't matter I guess. I can't expect people to see right from wrong. I gather selfish desires are more important.

It is one thing to be of the opinion that stealing from another is ok......another entirely to engage in the ACTION of stealing. When thought becomes ACTION then one must act according to their conscience. In your logical fallacy....one could be culpable of a crime merely by THINKING the crime. Pol Pot was quite famous for preemptive genocide only because of what he THOUGHT might happen. You seem to zero in on the detail that I am a Franciscan....but I will remind you that whilst sin can be of the mind....intent not acted upon is a bell that can in fact be "un-rung"...whilst an action is what it is....forgivable, but not un-DOable.
Fortunately I am not daft enough to think I can reverse your thought process...nor would I want to.....and nobody here is so much as attempting to do anything other than fulfill the spirit and letter of this forum....to DISCUSS. Might I suggest you take all this in, but more importantly....remind yourself that this is a CHAT FORUM, and not to be taken seriously?

I don't vape indoors. I've stealth vaped in a dark corner, outside at a place that had a no smoking policy, but no policy prohibiting vaping. I could have openly vaped, but didn't because I was being respectful and using common sense. I gave the guy that vaped in Burger King a hard time. I applauded the use of common sense in a place where a burning cigarette can't be detected from a few feet away. Somehow that all means I'm a disrespectful vaper that doesn't care about others or the vaping community. I really don't know what to say to this guy anymore. I didn't even want to reply to this thread again, but when you keep getting criticized for saying something when you really said the exact opposite... Dudes got issues.

Well my skewed logic is mine, and it is our place, not yours. So my decision is the one that counts in my facility.

So when it comes down to your logic, it doesn't mean spit in my company. And if you came in with your nazi attitude I'd fire you.

And as for saying I steal from the company, well it is obvious I treat my people better then making them in to thieves for grabbing a smoke. It's attitude like that that turns good things into shit storms.

So let's make another law, that will be nothing but a tax to brow beat the rest of us into submission.

Take their weapons, take their rights, break their spirit, and control their lives.

Funny you ask what others in a manager position think and I tell you. Yet I am a nazi ( or Pot Pol according to the resident priest) because I would expect you to work as you agreed when I hired you.
Theft is theft. You are being paid to work and produce for me when I am paying you. Not screw off and take more smoke breaks.
You may be right. Your decisions may count in YOUR facility. But it doesn't make your decision right or proper.

This is why you don't own the business. You just supervise. You wouldn't last very long in a company that was well run. Waste is waste. Better to cut the waste then to cut your own throat. People are just a commodity to a business. Anyone telling you different is lying.

No I don't own it, but do hire it for my own company work, design every custom piece that leaves these doors and every product that we do as a actual product is mine. Before me they only provided cutting services, I own rights to any product I have designed and as it is over 1/3 of our overall revenue as a company I think that puts me pretty damn high on the food chain.

My decisions are right and proper in my company, you turned it into something more. I stated I do this in my company, and have full rights to do as i damn well please in my facility. I'm not new to this, nor ignorant to what it takes to do what I do.

So for any that walk into my facility, vape on, I'll join ya and so will most of my employees!

LMAO! Wait, wait, wait!

The company allows you to "own" the designs you have done for them? After they paid you to design it? And who is accepting the risk, were there to be a product lawsuit? You or the company?

And now you own a company? Lol, that's rich!

How many people do you employ in your own company? How long have you been in business?

I think it's great you are helping build this company you work for. However, from what you are telling me, they sound like they are clueless about running a business.

I have never heard in my life, any company allowing people to screw off and take extra smoke breaks on the clock. Ever. Some used to allow smoking on the floor, some only outside or in your vehicle. Some even would let you have smoke breaks between your break period, but you had to clock out, and smoke on YOUR time, not the company time. This is always something addressed in the company manual, that every employee is required to sign. Your employer DOES have a manual, right? Because if they don't they are asking for trouble.

And how far, and how many of their own dollars do you think they will spend to "fight" a ban on vaping in the workplace? Once it's law, it's law until it is rescinded. They will not take being fined out the ass for your selfish desires. They are there to make money, not fight your battles. It only take one guy to bitch to the right people, and like OSHA crawling up your ass, the vape anti's will too.

It must suck to live such a self serving and angry life. I think some people are just lacking fulfillment and seek to deride others as a sort of punishment for wrongs they've brought upon themselves......it truly is so sad.
