I have a great MB if interested.
386DX40 with math co processor.
LOL
Hey, how about an original MacIntosh Performa 550 w/CD drive plus external hard drive that runs at the amazing speed of 33 MHz and still works fine, never died even once (while the Windoze 3.0 stuff of the same era had a blue screen of death every couple days)?

I think I still have Sun Unix on that old 386 carcass... Might put a new button cell in the MB and fire it up sometime...

I wonder how good that warranty would be if you remove the shit that makes it update all the time.
I believe the warranty is hardware. As long as you don't alter the OS (and all those updates are peripheral), Walmart will have to take it back.

They got some sort of seal on the cabinet? If not, you could always shove the Win10 HD back in it if you gotta take it back. If there is no seal, how would they know you used a different HD?

While that likely would be something one could get away with, the XP is eMachines and the new Win10 POS I just got to replace it is HP. Likely, the hardware is not interchangeable without some modification.

Ahh remember CPM? I had an Osborne portable once upon a time.
And the Commodore C128 had CPM available.
I don't remember Osborne, but do know many who had Commodores (those guys are all dead now). My first personal computer was an Apple Lisa modified to pretend it was a MacIntosh (which made the 2:3 vs 1:1 screen aspect ratio wrong if trying to draw graphics). It had a 5 Mb hard drive and I just knew I would never in my lifetime need more space than that. Hell, today, one simple graphics program uses ten times that much space.

That would depend on whether they changed the dimensions of the slot the HD fits into. I worked on well over a dozen computers, and in every instance, everything was interchangeable, until Win10 came out, and everything was smaller. I never had an HP machine, but one might assume it's the same deal.
Either way, at least you should be able to swap out the power supplies, so Lannie can have her computer up and running without making long drives and paying for a new one and someone to install it.

Of the two that are available to have parts swapped, IF her problem is the power supply, I don't have a replacement because part of the XP's problem is also power. I'm not going to waste my time swapping shit around just to have it die again in another week. I have a thousand things that need doing here on the farm before bad weather gets here and I am already way behind. Should have done more fencing today, but between the cold weather and bad back pains... well... and I am already a month behind on the firewood cutting. I really don't have time to fuck with these stupid computers. If I had my way, we'd just go back to hand-written letters and postage stamps.

And what I really need to do right now is go to bed. Yak at youse guyz later.

So, am I to assume you have never had any animals in your life? Nor a girlfriend who might have sucked your XXX and then kissed you? Or eaten at a fast food place where the moron snowflakes routinely spit on your hamburger? Or a Chinese restaurant where many food components are left out on the counters all night and have mice walking on them? And those eggs you had for breakfast? They fall out of a chicken's ass. All I am saying, Dale, is that life cannot be expected to be sterile. Don't like a cat walking on your table? Don't eat off the table - eat off the plate instead. We wipe down counters and tables, etc., quite regularly.
wow, you meanie....:giggle::giggle::giggle:

Sorry, I hate fucking cats....nothing more to say about the subject.....:vino:

Yeah, I know... :D The XXX, by the way, was your "finger," not whatever other perverted portion of your body you might have been thinking of. Your hands have more bacteria per square inch than any other [external] portion of your anatomy. Ever hit your finger with a hammer by accident, then immediately put it in your mouth to make the hurt go away? And children grow up sucking their thumbs... and... well, like you said, enough of that subject. :)

Glad you got some help with that pain and are now feeling better.

You really cannot change my mind about my hate for cats regardless of how many other examples of filth you may type......:giggle:

So how was life on the homestead today, Rich...I missed yesterday and didn't read any further than the first post....get any snow today?

I am not sure I looked at the thermometer more than twice today. It was in the 60s this morning, then I started sweating a lot (Lannie and I made another fence) so it probably was high 70s. It is about 50 right now.

You didn't miss anything by not being here yesterday. I think all we did was a bunch of computer banter and bullshit.

Damn nice weather. It's unseasonably lukewarm here, I don't think it hit 100.

I could live with these temperatures just fine, even though the bathroom first thing in the morning feels like I need the heater on.

Worried about who gets that new house in EC if you croak, huh? Sigh...
Just kidding, I asked her to fly here....got a contract with Circle-K corp to inspect a shitload of their properties. I'll be here awhile.

Sorry to do this, given that it is still relatively early, but my old bod is having some nasty aches and pains and I need to turn this box off and go to bed. And, oddly enough, it is Xena (warrior princess) who is telling me to lie down tonight. I think Teddy is already snuggled with Lannie. This house is just so full of adorable pussies... :D

I love my beastie cats! However, they are trained not to jump on counters and kitchen table. These are the last cats I'm going to have. They are a handful. I'm sure they will outlive me.

My doctor told me I need to find a less stressful job. My latest job is driving me out of remission. I can't win! I'm afraid to get a liver function test due to the stress. I suppose she is right.

In other news..the flooding is horrible here. It took 2 hours to get home last night.

I had a cat I liked a lot. Monster lived outside, and refused to go in. He also beat up other cats to the extent that he would chase them up trees just to knock them back down to the ground. Ain't nuttin' like a cat that hates other cats. He lived a good 9 years, or at least he was still around after 9 years, when we moved. He would not go with us.

OMG! When I lived in Missouri we had a cat named monster. She was beautiful. Our neighbors moved out one day (we were living in a apartment) and that was the last time we seen her.

Mine was a beautiful American Bobtail. Some people thought he was actually a small bobcat. He was a kitten of a feral cat living under a neighbor's house. Those people were crazy druggies, and dared me to try to catch a kitten. No sweat! When I caught him, I had him purring within a minute.

You should have seen the look on my mother's face when she was watching a wild rabbit in the yard, and Monster got it, killed it, and dragged it off for dinner.

My cats are leashed trained outside and still manage to exterminate birds and chipmunks. At first I was shocked, then realized it is the nature of the beast. They caught a few rabbits but haven't figured out they are dinner.

Well, I see that all the Old Pharts had such exciting Hump Daze that they are just too tired to get on here and spill the beans, so I guess I'll just say "Hi" and "Bye" to all of you and go to bed. Bon jour mon ami....

Sounds about right.
Dogs also like me as do most animals.

Serious question: Do you suppose there is a genetic difference in humans who both appreciate and are appreciated by certain types of (or all) animals as opposed to those who do not like or are disliked by those same animals? While I truly love cats, I have never failed to get along with dogs, birds, bovines, equines, etc. There was a time when a friend, who had a cat named Lucifer (who appeared to hate everyone), claimed no one but she could ever touch that cat, yet he jumped up in my lap, laid down and and purred to me. People with dogs that growled at nearly everyone (sometimes even their owners) would come to me in passive mode and lick my hand. Back in 1973 (when I still foolishly perceived myself to be this great white hunter), got my tag for cougar (puma, mountain lion) in Arizona and spent hours walking around a butte following tracks, only to be led onto the rocks near the top and lost my ability to follow. I sat down and wiped the sweat off, my rifle across my legs, and heard a sound almost like a house cat's purr, only louder. I slowly turned to see a large female cougar on a ledge above me, paws crossed, licking one paw, and I felt like she was saying, "I won. Game over." I stood slowly (she could have jumped and nailed my ass at any time). I knew she won, and made no attempt to even raise the rifle; I just thanked her for her courtesy and went back to my truck. I feel as though something passed between me and that big cat that day and never even considered hunting them ever again. So what is it that makes some of us this way and others not? I don't think it is merely a matter of country folk versus city folk because I know people from both localities who are on both sides of this fence.

if my dog does not like you maybe I should not as well
Total agreement, so long as you assess the situation carefully. That is, we have a couple outside dogs trained to protect the livestock on our property. They routinely chase critters who do not belong here, and bark at all humans who come on the property (including the mail lady who surely must be stealing something from our mailbox every day). If that human is greeted by and escorted onto the property by Lannie or me, the dogs back off, but if that person is on our property without escort, those dogs make it quite plain they are not welcome. That is different, in my opinion, than a dog growling his/her dislike for someone who is standing next to me while we talk. If THAT is the case, then I also develop an immediate question about that person's trustworthiness. Dogs (and cats and very many other animals) seem to be able to read a persons energy (aura?) and quickly make a decision about whether or not that person is good or bad.

Garbage men are the worst thieves!
They take all that good smelly stuff that my owners put out there.
Ah, yes, I remember that from back in Orygun. No one collects garbage here (we're too far away from civilization), so I don't know for sure how our current dogs would react, but given that they have this "bark and chase" game with the mail lady, I'm sure they would do the same if we had garbage collectors.

I had moments when I would go watch the black bears, when I lived in the California mountains. Even when there were cubs around, I was not considered a threat. But then, I also respected their space, and stayed far away, and never made any gestures they they might not appreciate.

As for dogs, I am allrgic to them, but like them well enough that I take two different types of allergy pills very day, so I can be around them.
When I was dating, one guy had a Pekingese that he claimed would never get near anyone, and was very territorial. I sat on his couch when we talked, and guess what. That Pekingese put his paws on my knee and begged for affection. He was shocked and bewildered. He must have thought I was a witch or something, because that was the last date with him, ever.

I know animals are good judges of a person's character. If my dogs don't like someone, there absolutely has to be a good reason why.

Well, gee, folks... one more time no one shows up for the evening BS Fest. Sigh...
Well, it was a hard day, so I need an early night anyway.
