Lot of politics involved, as you know.....There's a thread for that kind of BS?
I guess the term uniball is used because monoball sounds like a disease?
Oh, the political thread... I stay away from there because I really don't want to find out how many people I like are really idiots.Lot of politics involved, as you know.....![]()
This morning's weather report: Currently -25F and the wind chill (according to the TV weather) is -50F. Wind chill warning until tomorrow afternoon. High today should be (if we're lucky) -2, then -11 tonight and shooting all the way up to PLUS 7 tomorrow. Winds 25 to 35mph through tomorrow afternoon, when they should subside into the teens. Woo. Hoo.![]()
Well, hell, I blew that forecast. It actually did make it all the way up to -2 ºF, but only for about 30 seconds. Otherwise, I think it was -4 º., Right at this moment (9:30 PM), it is -10 ºF and the wind is 25 mph with gusts to at least 35 mph, so the current chill factor is -41 ºF, The wind has been pretty nasty all day, so it was nearly impossible to get the Doberman to stay outside long enough to pee (no way would she stay long enough to poop) and all the pathways have drifts in them deep enough that we both almost fell over trying to trudge our way to the barns (16-20"). Not only will the bobcat not start, but what would be the point? I mean, jeez, they'd fill in again in a matter of minutes. Sigh...(no way in hell will we get all the way up to -2 ºF today)
Really. And the 10-day forecast still doesn't have us above freezing. Wasn't Spring supposed to happen soon? The very next person who tells me we're having Global Warming, I'm gonna punch him in the mouf.Goddamn....Rich...that is truly messed up
Yeah, they should, but I'm still trying to find my trees under all this white shit.the buds should be beginning to show on trees.
Yes. We have now exceeded a whole month where the high temps never even got up to freezing, and this morning's low is the lowest we've had for an actual temperature (not counting the wind chill) that was not during a blizzard. The "average" high for this date is about 40 ºF -- NOT minus two fucking god damn degrees!!!Is this the worst winter since you've lived there?
Can't say much except....unbelievable.Yes. We have now exceeded a whole month where the high temps never even got up to freezing, and this morning's low is the lowest we've had for an actual temperature (not counting the wind chill) that was not during a blizzard. The "average" high for this date is about 40 ºF -- NOT minus two fucking god damn degrees!!!
P.S. Lannie looked at her weather records for this date and last year, our LOW was +27 ºF. Today's low was 52 degrees less than that.
Gonna be another shitty garden year.Seems the jet stream is way south of where it should be and everything north of that line (about half the country) is within what we call a "Canadian Blue Tongue" (arctic air mass), AKA we're all in the deep freezer. Under normal circumstances, jet streams do not stay in one position for so long, but whip around a lot (low pressure centers typically ride the jets). This is why you (Arizona) got that nasty weather a few days ago when shit that should never have been farther south than northern Nevada invaded you.
Yup. And if you remember last Spring, I was complaining that the weather was too bad to get the garden started on time. And it is twice as bad this year. Can you say, "The beginning of a new ice age"?Gonna be another shitty garden year.
I hear you Rich. It's still to cold at night here to plant anything too.Yup. And if you remember last Spring, I was complaining that the weather was too bad to get the garden started on time. And it is twice as bad this year. Can you say, "The beginning of a new ice age"?![]()
I know I already answered this, but I have to backtrack a tad. Yes, for cold temperatures. No for total snow amounts. We have had a couple years where I wasn't sure we could even get out of the house and we could not get out of the driveway for many days (a neighbor brought his big front loader over to clear us a path) and power lines were down for a week here and three months just a few miles down the highway. Is this the worst winter since you've lived there?
100% agreement. It's fucked up when you depend on the garden to provide for the winter months, then the winter lasts through the spring
Very similar to China quality control.....zip-zilch-nadaApotex Corp. Issues Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets, USP, 28x3 Blister Pack/Carton Due to Possibility of Missing/Incorrect Tablet Arrangement
Weston, Florida, Apotex Corp . is voluntarily recalling four lots of Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets, USP to the patient /user level. The four recalled lots of Drospirenone and Ethinyl Estradiol Tablets, USP may possibly contain defective blisters with incorrect tablet arrangements and/or an empty blister pocket.
in-credible......TODAY'S WX REPORT:
Sunny. Temp got all the way up to +6 ºF. The nasty part is the high winds that caused thick blowing snow (blizzard class). The weather dudes said the wind was 35 mph with gusts to 50, but the reality is that all day long the wind was 50 mph with rare lulls to 35. And now that the temperature is 0 ºF, that makes the chill factor -31 ºF There is a four foot high drift extending 20 feet across my driveway and there was no snow there yesterday. I need a troop of Boy Scouts with shovels (right, bob is not starting and it would be stupid to try to move these drifts until the wind stops).

You got it right.Pffftttttt (Is that the right way to spell me sticking my tongue out because you get to do this?)![]()
I was just wondering how long it will be before I even find the soil again..........tilled the garden, trying to warm the soil a little
By the looks of the (projected)-(guess), not for a couple more weeks.I was just wondering how long it will be before I even find the soil again..........
The "reality" is that maybe (MAYBE) the snow will stop by then, but then how long after that does it take for snow drifts 8-feet deep to melt so I can do something with the soil underneath?By the looks of the (projected)-(guess), not for a couple more weeks.
You prolly have two feet of frost where the snow is thin....really incredible. The "reality" is that maybe (MAYBE) the snow will stop by then, but then how long after that does it take for snow drifts 8-feet deep to melt so I can do something with the soil underneath?
I would suggest that yesterday and today count as the worst winter days I have ever experienced, anywhere. Seriously, the view was more like watching a storm ravage Antarctica than being in South Dakota (or Kansas).Claims he's never seen anything like it in his life,
Can't like this. That really sucks.I would suggest that yesterday and today count as the worst winter days I have ever experienced, anywhere. Seriously, the view was more like watching a storm ravage Antarctica than being in South Dakota (or Kansas).
There is no question about that. This is why all outside water pipes here are buried eight feet down so we can be guaranteed to have running water all year. And the "on/off" valve for all outside hydrants is down at the eight-foot level so they can still be turned on in the winter. You prolly have two feet of frost where the snow is thin....really incredible.
Pity trees are so scarce...I'd suggest building bonfires all over the place, or buy-rent a flamethrower. There is no question about that.
