I'd wait for V2 then if those quirks are an issue for you. Overall to me it appears to be a very nice mod. I would like to see a magnetic door added to the mix.

Been testing at 50w, this chip likes to reduce power randomly even at more than half battery life... I;m actually at 65% battery running the Efest Purple IMR 18650 20A 3100mAh 3.7v Rechargeable Flat Top Batteries. 0.5 dual coil build.

Just a heads up those '20A' Efest show poor discharge at loads as low as 10 amps. Not sure if that's what's causing the power reduction issue, but it might be worth looking to the Samsung 25R or another true 20 amp continuous battery.

See here for more information.

I took a gamble on it after seeing it's small size and nice look. I really wanted to like this device, but I can't.

I have tried two Sony VTC5 and a VTC4, all with the same results. I am running a twisted 30 gauge dual coil at 0.8 ohm.

  • On a fresh 4.2V battery, it will give 1-3 hits at 50 watts before showing "Power Reduced" and automatically dropping to 45 watts.

  • Once the battery level drops to around 80-90%, it again shows "Power Reduced" and drops to 40 watts.

  • At ~60% battery, it will reduce power again to 35 watts

  • At ~40% battery, it reduces power to 30 watts.

  • By ~20% battery, it cannot go above 25 watts.
Completely unacceptable for a regulated mod. When I buy a regulated mod, I want consistent power output over the course of a battery. If I wanted my vape to get weaker as my battery died, I'd just buy another mech mod.

Oh, and by the way, it's also got an annoying 1/2 second firing delay on every button press.

Do not buy this.

So apparently Smok is offering a 65watt chip upgrade + pass through capability, but it has to be sent off to Madvapes to be done.

Just ordered one of these for on the go use, my Sigelei 100w with my Fogger Big is a bit cumbersome to pack around. No M65s yet up here in Canada, so had to settle for the M50. A bit concerned about the power down feature, I vape at 30 watts, wondering if I can get it down to at least 40% before I have to swap batteries? I have tons of precision tools, so I don't mind opening it and changing the battery. Although 4 hex screws is going to be a pain...

That guy Victor is hilarious! That one isn't as good as his "for professional vapers only" video though. This one had beer shooting out of my nose :)

Had the smok m50 for a week now and I am really liking it. The delay isn't terrible, would be nice not to have a delay but I am now in the habit of pressing before inhale. No idea why they would program that in, it would be better without it.

I like most of my toppers at 0.3 to 0.4 so I have had to redo the way I build. My next regulated device will be able to go below the 3.6v floor or whatever it is that some of these devices have. It can take a 0.4 build, but you may as well be using a mechanical as it doesn't seem to be able to take power down. Now I am building around 0.5 ohms and I can dial in the vape I want from 27w to 40w depending on the toppers air flow.

The resistance only shows tenths, would be nice to show hundredths. The resistance seems to read about 0.1 lower than the topper is built to.

Charging is fast so I don't mind the allen driver needed to pull the battery... haven't taken it out since I got it. I think it charges at 2a which is still less than a 1c charge and should be fine with the low internal resistance high discharge cells that are on the market. That makes the wait very short.

For the money I am happy and haven't ran a regulated device in a few years (provari v1) but this is pulling me back into them. My next device will be a mini with the ability to... what is it? Buck? Chuck? Whatever it is that allows the device to reduce voltage to a low enough level to run around 0.3 ohms and still have adjustability.

I'm pretty sure I fried the board on my Smok m50. I removed the micro USB cable after charging and it shows it is still charging. It won't fire and I see a couple of burn marks on the circuit board. I've only had for about 18 days. Until this I really liked it aside from the premature wattage step down. I contacted eciggity about an hour ago. I'm curious to see what happens.

Burn marks are never good, i have heard ecigitty is good with service & support... hope so, that's where I got mine.

There is a reset button, have you tried that?

Let us know what ecigitty says if you can.

Finally got mine, didn't realize it was so tiny! Works great though... beside a Sigelei 100 watt...

Yes, I tried the reset with no luck.
For information I was charging the m50 in my car. I have noticed things sometimes charge funny using car adapters.
Still no response from eciggity. I was (and still am) impressed with their fast shipping time. 3 Days from Hawaii to Wisconsin with free shipping. And the prices are great.

Yeah, shipped same day and in CA in 2 days. 1st purchase from them, so far so good.

Car charger seems to be a high percentage of the reasons the cloupor mini is blowing itself up.

Looking over mine further, and it seems the built in charger is a rapid charger. Not sure I like that. I'll probably pull the battery and charge it trickle in a proper charger. Pretty sure an upto 2 amp rapid charger is going to shorten battery life. Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Yep, I mentioned that in post 61. It's not clear though, it says input around 5v and 1a to 2a. It doesn't specifically say it charges at 2a from what I've seen. I would love to see some clarification on that.

These cells should be able to handle a sub 1c charge, but I would be ok with waiting for a 1a charge to do it's thing.

As of yesterday after hearing about the self destructing cloupor I have been pulling the battery to charge.

That's just piss poor regulation. I've got an el cheapo 50W Hotcig Chana that stays the same vape wise until 5% of the battery is left. That's performance you detailed is not acceptable for any regulated mod. It sounds like it's barely doing step up...

Mine doesn't act like that, maybe it's just that I'm running 0.5 to 0.55? That and I don't let the bar get much past 2/3 of the bar which comes off at about 3.7v.

I'm a flavor chaser, so I run 1.1 to 1.3 ohm dual coil builds in my Foggers at 30 watts. I'll post if it acts up for me, and at what battery level. I expect it will, but hopefully at 40% or less. It was a dirt cheap mod at 59can so I don't expect a whole lot.....

Anyone notice that it reads the resistance about 0.1 lower than it actually is? Or is that just my unit?

Eciggity is offering me a refund or replacement. I am going with a refund. I cannot recommend the m50, as much as I liked the small form factor and the 50w, I wouldn't charge it via the on board usb because I fried the board doing so. On some Mods like the ones with a magnetic door or more convenient battery doors that is not a problem. But, the m50 is very inconvenient to remove the battery. So for that reason I don't recommend the m50. I do however recommend Eciggity.com.

Good to hear they did you right.
Wonder if the m65 upgrade wouldn't have that issue? They changed something to allow pass through charging so hopefully it's a better part.

Did yours read resistance 0.1 lower than it actually was? Curious.

Just an FYI. Twisted420 has a full review of the M50. The arching and sparking has me a little concerned. Yeah the bottom plate is the negative connection. But still.

Huh, I've got the XPRO BT50 (which I think came out just before the M50), it's got a few of the minor issues that you guys have reported but the button is solid and the battery door is on the back (still has the allen screws though). I wonder if they'll offer the upgrade to pass-through charging for this too, it's my only box mod at the moment and if I could charge and vape at work I'd be set.

Got the M50 with the 65watt upgrade -- seems they are still calling it the M50 rather than the M65. In any case, pretty pleased with it so far. Love the size, which is the main reason I got it. A Goblin tank on top makes for a very compact size to carry around. Decent build quality considering the price ($46). Not the most refined box out there -- buttons have some rattle, and the battery plate on the bottom can be a pain to deal with -- but it's been working well so far.

The ohm reading was a bit sporadic. My stock .5 Atlantis coil usually read .6 or .7. I hear that's common with any spring loaded 510 connection.

SMOK confused people with the packaging but once it starts up it is the upgraded full 65 watts. The compact form, nice design, good features and beautiful color selection make for a nice portable box mod. For around $50 (very cheap) you can't go wrong in my opinion. I would have liked to see a magnetic door but it is what it is. Glad you're happy with it and hope it continues to meet your needs.:)

For the member above with the discharge issues. Something is wrong, you need to get replaced. I have the M65 and I am loving it combined with the Atlantis, it is my perfect vape for now. I too was shocked at how small it is. My first machine was the VTR, compared to it, it is like having a feather in my hand, lol!!!!!

Well, wrong thread, this is the right one. No reverse polarity protection on these. Killed mine instantly. Got a good week out of it though!
