New to Mech Mods and to Forums

Hey all. Figured I should find a a good forum to set up camp at since it seems I'm getting into vaping more and more each day, and now since I've bought my first mech mod, I figure it's good to do so for safety reasons alone. So let's see. I have a magneto 2, an efest 18650 battery, an i2 charger I believe it's called (sorry I am not home atm), a stillare clone (at least I'm assuming it's a clone since I didn't buy it for 120 dollars), and I also have 26 gauge kanthal. I just picked up a multi meter today. My friend and I wrapped 26 gauge 6 times, and applied dual coils to the the Stillare Rda. If I'm doing everything correctly, I'm getting a final ohm reading of about .5 or so. That's including the subtraction from the reading from the multimeter itself. Does this sound correct though? I was under the impression that I would be getting a reading closer to 1 ohm. This is why I joined the forum. To become more informative since this stuff can be a little "dangerous." Any advice is appreciated. Thank you all. I look forward to being better able to participate within the community.

Hi and welcome. Oh yeah, with 26 gauge and only 6 wraps I would imagine that your resistance would be low. The thicker the wire the lower the resistance.

I must have gotten my information from an ill-informed site. I was reading "for this gauge, wrap it this many times, etc," basically following a chart. This was before I had the multimeter though... I know, I should have just waited until I got one. SO for future reference, 6 wraps for 2 26 gauge coils wont necessarily read out as 1 ohm? Thank you, and also, is it safe to vape at .5 ohms on a magneto 2 with the 18650 battery? Sorry for sounding like an idiot. I'm trying to learn more.

I'm sort of a newbie at mechs and building myself so I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will come along. But I think you calculated the ohms of a single coil, not a dual coil, which would make perfect sense since it's reading half what you expected.

Dual coil will split the resistance of one coil in half.
Diameter of your coil is also a variable for the resistance.

Yes, if you have two 1 ohm coils together they will read out as .5 ohms.

There is no "each" coil when you dual coil. Both coils sort of become one coil. Imagine if you had an outdoor faucet and you put an attachment onto it that allowed you to hook two hoses up to it, and then you turned on both hoses. The water's still coming from that one faucet but there is only half the resistance because you've opened up two pathways for the water to more easily travel through.

I'm not familiar enough with your gear to talk about safety. Be patient. This is a laid back place. It may take a little time for people to mosey on in but when they do they'll be at the top of their game.

The efest if they are the 35 amp are 35 amp pulse 20 amp constant.. go by the 20 amp limit and you will be safe.

Besides efest and 18650, what else is printed on your battery?

2500 mah, IMR, 3.7 V LI-MN, 35 A, High drain Rechargeable Battery.

switched to single coil for now, about .8 or .9 ohms

It has been said those batteries are rewrapped LG HE2 20 amp cells. It has also been said LG under rated them and they really are 30-35 amp continuous discharge batts. Nobody seems to be able to prove any of it.
