My eGrip is producing some really bad tasting vapor

Hi,

I've had this eGrip for one week. I got a really bad burnt taste after 2 or 3 days, so I changed the head thinking I must have burnt it out already.. no big deal. With the new one installed I waited until the juice had soaked in for half an hour or so. Within the hour I was getting the burnt taste again.

Is anybody else having this issue? Am I vaping too hard?

The heat setting is set to the lowest setting.

sounds like your coil used up the juice and burned the wick without feeding any more juice. something may be clogging the juice from entering or your juice is too thick

doesnt exactly help this situation but i say get the rba attachment and some 28g kanthal

I don't have an eGrip but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

To me it sounds like a wicking issue. Maybe a liquid with too high VG content...
Chain vaping a thick juice will run the coil dry before it has a chance to resaturate.

Beyond that, dunno. Like I said, I don't own one but I would imagine that the cold should last longer than that.

I'm afraid the Egrip is only truly great with the RBA base. With the regular throwaway heads, I could only get decent performances at the 3 lowest power settings, and only with very, very fluid juices. And even then, after a week of light use, I'd have to throw the head away.

I didn't mind too much personally, because I only use my Egrip 2 or 3 times a day for stealth vaping at low power. But as a main vaping device, it's just inadequate without the RBA base. With it though, it's a fantastic miniature steam train.

I suggest you invest in an RBA base: it'll be money well spent to unlock your Egrip's true potential.

I have used the same head for 2 weeks now mainly at 12-15 watts with no problems.
I am happy with it as is but will eventually try out the RBA base as well.

Hey, just curious, how open do you have the air flow screw?

And how heavy are you vaping? Do you just puff lightly and set it down for a while between draws, or are you hitting it hard at times? I thought maybe I was working the eGrip too hard to handle.

Hmm... well I wouldn't say I am a hard hitter even though I do at times. LOL
It is always within reach and I hit it a lot usually if I am not working.
I don't however take one hit after another for long periods of time.
More like 3-4 hits then set it down a few minutes.
Does that help?

Yes, that helps. I put a new head in and I'm taking it easier on it. So far so good. Thank you!

I had the burnt taste on a few new pre made coils, loosen the coil just slightly and not so tight into the bottom, so so loose that it does not make contact, just a tad. Worked for me anyhow

Another thing that works: turn the mod upside down for a few seconds. When you do that, you let some air back into the tank and lower the vacuum inside. When you turn the mod right side up again, more juice will flow through the wicking material.

That trick works with any bottom coil atomizer in fact...

I'm getting mine today hopefully. Tracking isn't updating yet though... ugh. Had one for a week, just started getting to know it when the fiance talked me outta it in order to try and get him off stinkies again. Except he isn't using it I bought another instead of taking it back cuz he has had it sitting with hot cinnamon flavored juice in it. Any other time I've tried clearing that flavor out of a tank it never came out enough for my taste so I am replacing mine with a fresh new one. Honestly I'm still hoping he will pick it up and stop smoking... it is a great mod... you can also use aspire bvc coils (non nautilus) in it if you swap pins out with the coils that come with it. It leaves an edge sticking out on the base tho, cuz they don't fit perfect. But I love the aspire bvc coils so it doesn't bother me much

I ordered the base kit too for the same reason. 20w? LOL I am lucky to turn it up to 10 or 12 anything above that and I burn up coils in just a few hits.

How many wraps at what size and gage of wire?
I want to run the heaviest gage wire I can run.

Given the 1.2 ohm minimum and the limited space for the coil and wick probably a 2.5mm 10 wrap 26 gauge is going to be the heaviest you'd have room for and still make 1.2. I tend to run 2.5mm 8 wrap 28 gauge at 1.5. The base will come with 3 coils. They work fine but you'll likely want to use your own cotton. The rba 510 adapter would be handy to have as well when it comes to wrapping your own.

I read at the other place some are using 7/8 wraps of 28 gauge around the little blue screwdriver. I still have a bunch of the ones that came with my rba bases, so I haven't had to wrap one yet for the egrip.

The blue screw driver is roughly 2mm. The original coils are 2.2mm (they say - I haven't tried to verify it). For me using the smaller coil it tends to gurgle a tad. Using 2.5mm seems to allow enough cotton to eliminate that.
