Help me find my first mech mod

Hello Everyone,

I so received my Subtank last week and I have been vaping it using my MVP @ 11 watts. I'm patiently waiting for the iStick 50 watt to be released in a few weeks. Needless to say, vaping on the Subtank @ 11 watts flat out sucks. My friend has an 18650 mech mod that I tried out with the Subtank and it was great.

So I've been doing some research on these forums, thinking about stepping up to a mech mod. I saw that I could pick up a clone from Fasttech from $15-25 for the mod or a variable ww/vv mod for $25-40. Then I'd have to buy 3-4 batteries, a charger and possibly a volt meter. So all in all, I'm guessing it would be about $100.

I know that I would have to buy a good charger as well as name brand / non clone batteries from a respectable online store. I guess I would need a 510 adapter as well to fit my Subtank and Nautilus Min / ProTank.

I may still buy the iStick 50 watt or some other VV/WW mod, but I think I'd like to have mod where I can just change out batteries without having to wait for my mod to charge.

Could you guys help me out in choosing a nice clone? I saw a couple of names that have been recommended, would mostly use it for subohm with the Subtank and any new subohm tanks that I might get in the future (Delta II). Also, do they have dual 18650 clones on Fasttech that go upto 100 watts or so?

Thanks for your help,
Ki||@

Check out AngelCigs. At least they ship from the United States and you won't have to wait a month to get it.

The mech mod is just a battery holder/circuit closing switch.
It's the battery that determines mAh, Maximum Continuous Current Drain (MCCD) and wattage
Per Ohm's law - V X C = W, or... volts X amps = watts.

For example, an 18650 battery rated at 30a MCCD - with a full charge at 4.2v, will deliver 126 watts... until it discharges, then - for say, a battery discharged to 3.8v - will deliver 114 watts... and so on, etc etc.

Here are a few links to some good batteries and chargers.

http://www.lightningvapes.com/products/sony-18650-vtc4-3-8v-30a-2100mah-battery-flat-or-button a 2 pack is 20 dollars
http://www.lightningvapes.com/produ...drain-rechargeable-battery-flat-or-button-top a 2 pack is 18 dollars
http://www.lightningvapes.com/products/nitecore-d2-digicharger a nice 2 bay charger is 20 dollars
http://www.lightningvapes.com/products/cartomizer-and-atomizer-ohm-meter a nice ohm meter for 15 dollars

Use LV15 for a 15% discount plus you can get free standard shipping. So you can get two batteries a charger and an ohm meter for 50 dollars.

I second the use of Angelcigs.com You will be able to get a nice clone to your door for around 25 dollars.

http://www.angelcigs.com/victoria-bamboo-style-mechanical-mod-copper-1-1.html
a nice Ja clone with magnetic switch and lots of copper for 20 dollars plus shipping.
For a total of 75 dollars, up to the 100 mark if you want a more expensive mod.

You wont need a 510 adapter, as mechanical mods already have the 510 thread that match your tanks.

Thank you all for the information and links. I just saw this deal for an Origin Mech Mod and Patriot Rebuildable Dripper Clones with one battery, a charger and other stuff for $40 with free shipping. Could you guys take a look and let me know what you think.

http://www.ecigavenue.com/shop/origin-and-patriot-mod-clone-complete-starter-kit/

I know that I would have to pick up some quality batteries and an ohm meter as well, but it looks like a good start.

Thanks,

I am not a fan of the battery and the charger in that set. The mod and the rda are nice though. But for another 15 dollars, you can get great batteries, a great charger and a very nice clone with a little more style. But style is subjective.

Thanks for the info and for looking at that set. I'll pass on it since the battery and charger aren't any good.

I was checking out Angelcigs.com but they are out of stock on a lot of items, namely, I'm interested in an SMPL mech. They only have a white SMPL mech mod which I'd rather not buy. I also saw on the Angelcigs website that the SMPL has a copper body / stainless steel contacts while the Victoria has stainless steel body / copper contacts. Does this really matter? I've read differing opinions on the ss vs copper contacts and body? Do cc contacts really wear out easily. I will be switching between tanks fairly often.

Is there anywhere else in the US that I can buy similar mods for these prices?

Finally, I noticed that Angelcig is based in China, so do they really ship from the US?

Sorry for all of the questions, just trying to figure out what's best for me.

Yes they ship from US, the material on a mod does affect the voltage drop. SS and Copper are good choices, they both hold up well on voltage drop. Steer clear of Aluminum bodies and contacts. SS, CU and Silver Plated are good choices. Brass and Copper are softer than stainless, so if you will be changing the tank/rda often, they can loosen the 510 threads after a while with lots of threading and unthreading from the swaping of tanks/rda's. I prefer Copper contacts over SS ones, they seam to hit harder, less voltage drop. YMMV, but imho copper/ss/brass bodies are good, copper, ss and brass tops are good and copper and silver plated contacts are good.

The $18.xx stainless steel SMPL at fasttech will be my next purchase. I don't like soft metal 510 threading. The simple design of the SMPL results in low voltage drop even though it's stainless steel.

If you get the Smpl clone, I can attest that sku # 1943604 at FT is almost exactly like the authentic. The only real difference is the authentic has a redesigned button. I have both. You also have to make sure the contact pin on the subtank protrudes out just a bit since it makes direct contact with the battery. Clone on the left, authentic on the right

If you plan on sticking with tanks, a 50w regulated mod is probably your best bet. Most of them should let you vape while it charges. If you think you'll end up dripping, however, a mech is the way to go. Suggestions:

My favorite charger:
Nemesis:
SMPL: https://88evape.com/shop/mechanical-mods/smpl-mod-clone/

Steer clear of batteries whose price seems too good to be true ($5 per). Lot of clone BS. Clone mods, cool. Clone batteries, not so much. Good luck, bud!

I believe mech mod is actually a step down, not up. Most nowadays use box for it's regulated/duo battery/and it can go up to 150+ watt.
However, many including me prefer mech mod, for it's look, it's shape, customization.

My 1st mech mod was Celtic Slo'jo....it look GREAT, hit great, the top screw for battle rattle is a little lose(sometime you have to play with it a bit)
Interestingly such a great mod is not well known.
Currently I am using the Zombie mod, and it is absolutely great as well(especially the way it handle battery rattle)....be warn, it use hybrid top cap.

Been using my Kaf4n at 1 ohm, and tugboat at 0.33 ohm for dripping(thinking of upgrading to a Marquis/veritas/or plume veil myself)

As for battery, I've been using Efest 35A 18650 from myvaporstore.com, MXJO 35A 18650 from amazon.com and I'm really happy with it. Just got some cheap LG HE2 18650 as well, only use for 2 day, so I can't say much of it, but it doesn't seem bad either.

My links seem to have been fudged. The charger is an Xtar MC2, $15 on ebay.

88evape has SMPL clones for $20, ships from US. Their customer service sucks, but their prices are good.

Xtar chargers are very nice. Love mine.

Hell yeah. Shuts off if you insert the battery backward. Clear charge indicators. Senses what kinds of chemistry your battery uses and adjusts accordingly. Just darn good products.

Thanks for the help everyone.

I am still confused about how these mech mods work. According to State O' Flux post from earlier in the week, "an 18650 battery rated at 30a MCCD - with a full charge at 4.2v, will deliver 126 watts... until it discharges."

Does this mean that a mech mod with this battery will delivery 126 watts every time you fire it, until it has discharged and is ready to be charged or does the wattage slowly decrease as the battery is used? It seems like 126 watts would be way too much for my Kanger Subtank or any other tank / clearo.

Is my reasoning correct?

Thanks for helping me understand this stuff,

Their wording is wonky and basically wrong. A fully charged 18650 delivers max 4.2 volts on a mech. As it is used, the voltage lessens, until about 3.5v when it needs charged. The resistance of your atomizer determines how many watts are produced and how many amps are pulled from your battery. Play with steam-engine.org; it's practically imperative. If you don't play with the numbers, you'll never fully get what's going on.

I don't recommend the nemesis clone. I have one myself, only two of my 12 (22mm) RDAs screw onto it.
that is just you, I have 5 nemesis and all of my ATTYs thread on all of them. You just might have a bad one. how do you make a recommendation on a a sample base of one? The nemesis is a tried and true mod that will always be a classic and are still making aftermarket parts for. don't tell people not to buy something because the ONE you own is bad.

If I were to recommend a first mech mod it would be a Nemesis clone for sure. That is the first mech mod I ever owned and have never been dissappointed with it. I've never had any problem getting any atty to work on there either. All of my RDA's and RTA's have worked flawlessly on top of er.

Thanks, I actually watched Matt's (Suck my Mod) review yesterday and he said that the 100w plus is a big improvement over the regular 100w released a few months ago. He actually said that the 100 plus is his new go to / favorite mod, so I'm excited!

Cool, sounds like I made a really good choice then. I was thinking about the 150 mod, but in reality, who really needs that much power. I'm sure 100W will be plenty for the next year or more.

I can't wait, it'll be a HUGE upgrade from my 11W MVP, which I'll still use here and there. I like to have several different tanks / juices available to vape, so now I'll have 2 spinners, the MVP and the Sig to pair with my tanks.

Thanks Boomstick, I appreciate it.

I'm going to do some research on RDA's, watch videos, read up on here and see what I like. New stuff is coming out all the time. I guess a good starting point would be to start messing with and learning about the RBA capabilities of my Subtank and go from there.

Sounds like the perfect plan to me.

Btw, you got the battery and charger thing figured out for the sig? Made any choices or already ordered anything?

Hey Boomstick,

Yeah man, my Sig along with a pair of Sony VTC4 and Efest IMR 35A, Nitecore D4 charge and Ohm Meter are in transit and should (hopefully) be here tomorrow. I bought all the accessories from Lightning Vapes and the Sig is coming from Elev8 Vape. Keeping my fingers crossed that this stuff is in my mailbox when I get back from school tomorrow.

When you take a drag, and the voltage jumps up like crazy and the Ohm displayed is higher, it's your Atty is having a bad connection. (So much about self adjusting center pin). It happens on my Sigelei 100 Plus from time to time.

Words from a wise vaper here.... I wish more people thought like this. I see peeps walk into shops and take 6 or 8 rips and their mod dies.... And they say it's a crappy piece- I say it's lack of knowledge and a crappy habit of not educating themselves and reading enough.
