Own my own truck now and am almost done starting my own company. 100% my own boss, drive where I want, when I want, with 100% of the profits coming to me.
My stepdad who ran under the handle Whiskey Man, got himself kicked out of Houff Transfer for a DUI on his own personal time. He had driven for near everyone since he was 16 and nearing 65-70 when the DUI happened. He was upset at himself for totaling his sweet pickup he had bought. Took it into a rock wall.
So he started doing local daily runs for a guy with an ear to contracting work. He would haul gravel, sand, fill, load of livestock just whatever happened needing hauled. Felt surreal at his wake to not see him in a rig. One of his buds saw my ink on my arm and suggested I was just Whiskey Man jr.. Another of his buds had to steer me away quick. "C'mon let's go have a smoke."
Much as he tossed me lumps, much as I hated the s.o.b. .... well. But I never did call him dad, never will. Think through the hate we shared I got made a better person for it. Although it is a good possibility he is why I don't drive. I couldn't say for sure but it is possible. Yes, went "out" on the road with him a few times or so, too. So, I understand how driving gets in the blood.
