I was fortunate enough to have had a Big Brother from United Way's Big Brothers & Big Sisters program. My big brother one weekend in 1985 rented/traded/barter use of a satellite dish from a friend. He had done so in order that we could watch a live concert. It was the concert where Sting confronted his stalker. Enjoyed and still do enjoy music from The Police & Sting on his own.

Me and my brother also got into a bunch of other stuff that weekend. I wound up in the car shop helping his brother "Boogie". Boogie taught me the basics of using a torch, cutting off radiators and slapping new ones up in and tacking them. The shop had pits for the mechanics to get into under the cars. It was fun helping Boogie, he let me go at it for a while in the second pit. Think I got maybe two cars done to his six. *chuckles*

Being quick at that takes time, experience. Boogie had been doing it for years and likely did it while sleeping. I learned too it was shop policy for radiator repair to drop an old busted radiator out and replace with new one instead of trying to fix the older one.

It just made better sense/cents doing it that way as all they needed to guarantee then really was the welding used to hold a new one in. They could point to the radiator supplier if a new one was bad. In which case the shop settled with the supplier on behalf of the customer. "Uh huh, send us a fresh one the last one numbered [HASH=2184]#xxxxx[/HASH] was bad." The supplier usually complied or gave credit.

Old ones or bad new ones went out for scrap recycling. A service come round to collect them, tossed the shop a few bucks for scrap material. Of course, the service cleared profit in that it gathered scrap from a lot of shops and got paid for it from the recycle/junk yard.

Once my big brother caught on though, he had to drag me out of the shop. Oh he railed at Boogie, his own little brother. Boogie just chuckled. "Well, he asked what I was doing. I showed him, he got it and off he went." Later on I wound up on the roof of that shop tarring it in a hot as hell Summer. *chuckles* Worth it for a few bucks.
Great story, Magic ! Thank you for sharing.
My brother (RIP) blessed me with how to fight. Though, he didn't teach me how to take on three people at once  but I did give it my all, however, I did get worn down and paid the price
Afterwards, I did get into karate, thankfully, haven't gotten into fight since then :)

Don't forget or miss out on the alignment of the planets Jupiter and Saturn tomorrow around sunset. They will be aligned for a few days, but tomorrow they will be the closest to each other. It will be the first time in 800 yrs.
I'm going to get out my telescope and hopefully get a few pics.

Hear you there. Know I've paid my share as well, then some. Never really had any "formal" martial arts training myself. Got the quick and dirty "working man" versions of it, nothing in a proper school.

Eventually got tired of being numbed to the punches. Tired of being numb all around. Realized it was okay to feel. And then fussed because I felt, oh something terrible at times. *chuckles*

But yes, I've had a few good influences in life that have surely spared me a very darker ends. So grateful for those as well. Me and wife were talking yesterday, told her I could point to the book of Timothy in the Bible, point to my Pap. That was how Pap lived. :)

Couldn't recall him being a church building no more than once but knew he was Christian as in he followed Christ. Big shoes to fill and I'm not going to try. Not because I think I'd fail, rather it's better to respect his way and choose mine. S'what he would have said do, too.

Well, it got all dusty over here. Excuse me. :)

Life of hard knocks is always a painful way to be taught, but that's how we learn and might say I'm crazy, but wouldn't trade it for nothing. When people ask or say "If you could go back in time what would you change or whatever?" Of course there would be things I would like to change, but just never know it could be better or it could change for the worse. So, I'd rather leave it as is.
I would never want to walk in other peoples shoes or try to fill those shoes, they are who they are and I am who I am ;) but to have respect for them is the one of the best things.
