What was going on when you got the error?
Was the mod just sitting there or were you using it?
Was it super hot or anything?

Have you tried turning it on without the tank/atomizer on the top to see if there is a short?

By the way, Welcome to the forum

Guy's,
I tried everything took the tank off put it back on, removed the batteries etc. When this error popup I literally thought it was going to meltdown, it was hissing. To be honest I think it's just fried, I've already ordered another. Just wanted to give it one last shot.

I pulled back on the front of the mod to take a puff and I saw that error. I really don't use the full power of the mod. I usually have it set at 65 - 75w but I like it because the charge lasts the whole day. Attached is a pic.

Well, to be fair hissing could be a battery venting.
How are they?
Any of them have a missing spot or black spot in the wrap close to the top or bottom?

You have to sive pics smaller to post. I know it's a total pain in the ass.
I usually take a screen shot of the to make it smaller or set the phone to the lowest possible setting.

Yeah, it sounds like someone should count their lucky stars. @jll59, do not try using those same batteries. From the sounds of it they are "retired" from service. They will no longer hold a charge.

I've done similar using mechanical devices. The batteries get hot. I take them outside to a safe location and let them be a few days. Once they heat up like that it means they're no good any more.

Do not play with these batteries. You're likely right they were melting down/venting. This is a very bad and dangerous thing. Thankfully your mod seems to have done what it was designed to do. It stopped itself from firing.

Try fresh batteries you know haven't been recharged over 300 to 500 times. That's the rough average "life cycle" of batteries. It is difficult to recall how many recharges one does. Well, not really just that so many of us get forgetful.

Please do what others advised and buy yourself some new batteries from a reliable source, as in, a company that doesn't sell rewraps. Liion Wholesale, IMR Batteries.com, 18650Batterystore.com, illumn.com.

I've never heard a mod hiss when it was dying, but I've sure heard that sound from a venting battery. Those batts are trash.

The one occasion you might hear hissing (other than the batteries venting) is if your mod is auto-firing, and that's just as dangerous as venting batteries, because if the batteries get hot enough, they'll vent from that, too. It can also ruin the mod AND the tank.

It's best to take the batteries out of your mod when you aren't using it.

Good luck, and please stay safe.

This sucks without pics.
We can still try and figure it out though.
Was the hissing coming from the mod or the tank/atomizer on top?

Do any of you know what app to you use on a phone and/or PC that will shrink the images to fit here on VU?

I always have to e-mail pics to myself, download them, open them in Paint, and resize them before I can post them here.

When I had an iPhone 6, seems to me like there was a choice that you could make to choose High, Medium, or Low resolution, but the 8 I have now doesn't have that.

It's a PITA for me, that's why I don't post many pictures.

I don’t. I usually take a pic, size it right afterwards and then when I come to post, I go to the little picture icon up there and a box pops up that says “drop image here”. Pop it in there and I’m good to go.

I use my cheap Samsung Sky phone to take a picture set at 3.7m the middle setting on my phone camera- then it is automatically sent to my google gmail(photos) where I click onto the one I want and save to my computer- then come to VU and click onto that 1620327269305.png and click on the box that shows up (drop image(click here) and it will then show all my pics saved to my computer- then I click onto the picture I want and then it shows up here on VU.
That is the way I show pics here now- used to be able to click onto the Attach files button, but that doesn't work anymore.
I have never had to resize a photo.

Was it the mod that was hissing, or the atomizer? How loud? And did you smell this nasty acrid burning electronic smell? Even if there was no smoke?

The atomizer
OK, This is good.
There is a good chance that there is a problem with the atomizer now.
Have you cleaned it up real good to check to see if any of the orings or other non metal parts are melted?
Also, Have you tried the mod without the atomizer on top to see if it works without it?

What kind of atomizer do you have?
Is it a Smok tank or or something else?

I have a SMOK GX350 and got a Timeout Error (almost like it was melting down), now it won't turn on.
Is it dead or can I do something to get it running again?
Was it the mod that was hissing, or the atomizer?

Well, without physically examining the mod, atomizer, batteries it sounds like a few issues.

  • You vented batteries that had ran out their life cycle.
  • The atomizer somehow caused a "dead" short, leading to above. Debris, too tight can cause that.
  • It's a Smok mod ergo it "bricked" simply because.
  • You're not sure where the hissing or heat come from but got startled. That's understandable too.
Be aware though for next time, getting startled and panicking is counter productive. I'm not saying this so you just go on your merry way and let a battery blow up in your face.

I am saying it so you stay calm and can get an idea what is actually happening. You have a bit of time before everything fully goes South on you. Make the best use of it and quickly explore possible scenarios.

See if your atomizer is screwed down too tight. It only needs to be snug and not gorilla gripped tight. Check to see if there's any loose metal flakes in your 510 connector on the mod.

Check the batteries for deformities, burns. Get an idea of how many cycles you've put on the batteries. Be sure you got the batteries from a reputable source and not off Ebay or Amazon. Here's a quick way to check if you got good batteries.

Please do what others advised and buy yourself some new batteries from a reliable source, as in, a company that doesn't sell rewraps. Liion Wholesale, IMR Batteries.com, 18650Batterystore.com, illumn.com.

Follow her advice, she's not steering you wrong. Though I will point out IMR Batteries does sell re-wrapped batteries. They do so not for deceptive or nefarious means though.

IMR uses their own wrap material which is double thick what most battery manufactures use. What they say they're selling, they are selling. They use more durable wrap to protect customers and keep their inventory sorted.

Not had any of IMR's batteries ever cause an issue except in the case of end of life. And that's a matter of user forgetfulness, not on IMR at all. All in you can trust batteries from IMR. I do.

Another thing to check is the ohm rating of your coil/s. Use an ohm meter separate from your mods. For a long time it used to be most regulated mods would not fire below 0.20 ohms.

Now, they go even lower but most still have a safety shut off. If you're building too low ohms your mod/s might not work. Get to know the mod's manual. I know it's a pain to read but sometimes it can save hassle.

Now, let me apologize and offer up "The Standard Disclaimers". I apologize if this reads in a way that paints me as being an a-hole. Didn't intend that reflection nor am I generally an a-hole. :) I'm just trying to offer some basic advice you're free to take or leave. Hope it somehow helps.

If you need 'em, ... disclaimers.

Yes I think that is a good idea- hopefully you ordered new batteries too.
Maybe your tank leaked juice in thru the 510 and fried the chip? Not sure if this mod can be fixed and if it would ever work correctly . Forgot to ask how old is the Smok GX350?
What mod did you order? The same one?

Ditch the mod if the tank was hissing. Sounds like its not shutting down power when you release the fire button. Not worth your safety. You only get 1 face, mods are replaceable.
Had a mod yrs ago that did that but can't recall which one, do remember though that I destroyed it in my gold dolly pot as I do everything that's a fail.

The Smok GX350 has a serious safety flaw that can cause the mod to suddenly jump to max power (350W) while not giving any prior signs of warning. I have actually watched this happen with my own eyes, as a guy walked into a vape shop while I was there, chatting with the shopkeeper. The mod was displaying 75W, but the guy said his coil had burned out instantly the moment when he pressed the fire button. His tank hissed, and black smoke came out of the tank. This coil was rated up to 80W, and, changing the coil with an identical new one had gaven him the same exact problem so basically he had thrown away the remaining juice from the tank, had cleaned out the burned smell from the tank, had primed a new coil, and had filled the tank, all to end up getting a hiss with black smoke yet again... very frustrating!

Changing out the batteries also hadn't helped. The shopkeeper then asked me what's an easy way to test this. My reply was to take the build deck of an RDA with a pair of beefy, handbuilt coils that are so beefy that they should ramp up really slow at only 75W. So, it turned out that the mod was firing at 350W, not 75W. All the while the mod kept displaying 75W like normal, as if nothing was wrong with the mod. Nothing could indicate it was firing at 350W excepting only the fact these coils were ramping up instantly, whereas on another mod that was set to 75W also, the rampup of these same coils was terribly slow, just like I had expected it to be, as these coils were using 26g Kanthal wire, and their size was rather big also.

This all led me to believe the GX350 simply can not be trusted with batteries that are rated below 30A (the Samsung 20S is a 30A battery), and that is only IF you can live with the potential risk of it causing the cotton wick to unexpectedly get burned to a crisp... no joke.

As for resizing photos on iOS,

UPDATE: I sat the mod aside for a day and put in another set of bats and it started up. It's pretty old so I ordered a new one and will use this until the new one comes in on Monday. Thanks everyone for the advice
