Should buy a Mod or a Vape Pen to quit smoking

Yes. Both. That's my answer.

You might want to start out with say an affordable "pen" kit. A nice clearomizer tank and two eGo styled batteries ought not cost anything over $40, more likely you find them around $20. If you do get an actual eGo styled battery you can find chargers for those for <$5.

The pen kit you might find works out fine for you. More oft than naught though people realize battery capacity isn't the greatest. You might get torqued over only having a 2 to 4 ml tank for juice. In any case people usually find something niggling regarding pen kits.

In my case it wasn't satisfying. Part of that was, yes, I wanted to at least chuck modest vapor clouds. I also liked the drawing feel of water pipes, the huffing on a fire hose rather than the straw sucking. And most "tank" type atomizers are geared to Mouth To Lung (MTL). If you like how a cigarette feels that might suit you. By feels in this case, I mean how it draws/hits for you.

Me doing the huffing suits me. Direct Lung, (DL) that's called. Yes, we all know you're still inhaling through the mouth in either case. :) And for me using RDAs over tanks suits. I'm sure for a lot using a tank will suit. My point in saying get both to start out? Well you need to find which works for you. We cannot just tell you offhand or call out some kind of sorting hat. *chuckles*

So get yourself a fair to decent regulated pen kit & the same for a mod kit. There's adapters for mods so one can use eGo style clearomizer tanks, if the tank isn't standard 510. If you find your preference you can always put the other up for Pay It Forward, trade/sell. It's not as though you'll be out much money wise. Folks can help you find reasonably priced gear & besides most of it is pardon, "cheap Chinese" products.

No disrespect to the Chinese intended. There's reasons why gear in China comes to America costing so little. Will not discuss those reasons here, not worth wasting electrons. The Chinese are good people. :) The people, anyway. :)

Drag X or X Plus for out-and-about, and a nice mod and tank or RTA for home. So yes, both. Also then you have a backup, just in case.

And backups for the backups, and backups for the backups, for the backups ... did I mention backups? :)

ETA: @Weisen , you're looking at an initial outlay of $60 to $100 at most. Now, understand that's for modest reasonably priced gear. You can if you want spend more for high dollar fancy gear. Is it worth it? That depends. If you like the aesthetic over the function, maybe. Lots of times that's what it comes to as well.

I've said often I could use a sardine tin and thimble to vape. That is true factually, yes, it could be done. Then, I admit I've recently got some "steal/deals" on a little high dollar gear. Just because is my reasoning for that. :) I realized I hadn't spent over $500 in about 5-14 years of buying vape gear. So, I bought some more just because. *chuckles*

As you said, most of the disposable products should be from China.

Please do not misread that. I know America makes its fair share of disposable "cheap" products. All countries do if we're honest. It seems though in the vaping industry a majority of low to mid grade product hails from China or other Asian countries.

This isn't really a surprise given a lot of various electronic equipment comes from Asian manufactures. For example a lot of Sony DVD players originate in China, Japan. Microphones come from Taiwan. Fuses for cars come into WV here from Japan for a company called NGK. Wife used to inspect those for defects for a while.

Mt point is any country can make cheap disposable products. Hasbro that makes M-16 rifles and G.I. Joe toys has facilities all over America. Both of those items are clearly cheap and disposable.

i would say start with a swag mod as it is easyy to use, teaches you all the basics of vaping, it is small yet powerfull. if you start with say a pen, in a short time you will be losing interest in vaping. with a swag you can carry a spare battery which is good. a 10mm bottle of juice that way if you get held up a bit, you know you can still vape. dont use the same juice every day, experiment with your taste, be respectfull to people when vaping and dont think you look cool vaping, experienced vapers do it for tatse and money saving, jusy smile when you see someone smoking a cancer stick knowing that 1 fag costs th same as you making 10ml of juice. try it,love it,push your self to learn it and give your body a chance to thank you for it.
do more of what makes you happy.
cheers.

Pen or mod? One of each, or two or five.

I use the Aspire eLeaf, and some call it a mod, but it's a regulated battery, so I think of it as a big grippy pen, with more mah and greater wattage options, even though it's boxy in shape. I also have an original (not clone) Kato Hammer mod. I bought two of them years ago because they were beautiful, museum pieces really, simple to use with a single battery and various tanks, but when one of my best friends, who first clued me in on vaping, drooled and said "I WANT ONE", I gave him one of them. After all, had it not been for him and his wife, I might still be smoking today.

I never use my Kato Hammer mod. I just show it off to people now and then, or just take it out and look at it.

Then, at the first threat of vape bans, I started hoarding the plastic bolt mod in black. I was the one who cleaned out the market. They were cheap, and each one uses a single 18650 battery, which is considered very safe, especially with a fuse. It's the stacked battery mods that have been implicated in the "exploding vape" episodes. In fact, I think the term "mod" comes from modifying a flashlight into a vape device.

I disliked some simple mods because of the bottom firing button, which felt clumsy to me. The bolt mod stands up on a flat bottom, and has a side firing button like the eLeaf or the old Ego-T.

So why mention the plastic bolt mod when you can't get it any more? You can still get the bolt in pretty brushed aluminum in many colors. I have stored a couple of those too, a gold and a bronze, for dressy occasions when the nanny apocalypse comes. They're still cheap enough to hoard one a month until the vapocalypse, which is probably a good idea since the firing button is connected to a very thin wire.

Then, to be extra safe, I bought a bunch of 2-Cents-for-Safety fuses.

But now I'm reading that 18650 batteries are harder to find. Can't win. But it might just be because of supply chain disruptions that are making everything scarce. I hope that's all it is.

So if you're new to vaping, at the bottom line I recommend a sturdy regulated device with plenty of power and mah.

i would advise getting a swag 22, it can fit a 25 atomiser, you can take the battery out, its light and easy to handle, controls are easy, it is tough if you drop it, overall its a sexy kit. oh and a good power range.

A lot of everything is made in China. There's a high end Dotmod "DotAIO" I wanted really bad, out of my price range, well reviewed, but you can see the CE factory mark on it in the photos.

How about something healthy... like a banana?
I caught that too, like you and Vape Fan, but I looked at Weisen's commenting history and decided he wants to stay quit from cigarettes, maybe is having cravings. I can also read that he's been trying things, and appears to be a bit gobsmacked by the little snafus in vape equipment you have to learn to deal with.

Bananas are good though. I like them sprinkled with sugar and rum, then lighted. Don't do it next to your kitchen curtains though. Experience.

Any idea where to get them or something similar? Been hunting around and no place seems to have safety fuses in stock.
I promise to dig around today and see if I can still find any fuses. They were getting scarce when I bought them. I had help in the other forum to locate them. Hang tight.

This is my favorite mod right now. I poured coffee and let it get cold while I took these pics. I bought this kerosene heater too late, after stormageddon was over in February of this year, so as never again to huddle in my coat under quilts in 40 degree indoor temps. I had it stripped of the old paint and rust, and repainted with high heat resistance paint. The guy who did the restoration cleaned up the burner tank and put in a fresh wick. This is a mod now because the clean, dry, wicked burner is stored separately, along with several quarts of K1 kerosene (metal quart cans can be stored indefinitely indoors) in a high cabinet away from heat.

Right now this is a mod because I have it filled with flicker flame Christmas lights. We got mild enough temps this week to have "pretend winter" in south Texas, so I've been enjoying the cozy.

I think one of the factories closed. It may have been the 2-cents-for-safety one. There is another brand I bought too, VapeSafe, which may have been a re-branding of 2-cents.

Anyway, I have searched and searched, and when I find vape fuses I see "out of stock".

I'll post more as I find them. This is a very reputable Canadian seller. They have fuses at a good price, but I didn't go as far as to look at the shipping price:

Another Canadian seller with fuses. I am not finding any in the US so far.

Someone on the other forum offered me this link. I'm not familiar with this fuse , how it works, have never bought any. It adds too much height to use with any of my mods, but it may work in some of the telescoping ones:

Then someone asked "Is there a reason not to use protected batteries in mechs; the ones that are a little longer because they have safety circuitry in them? Wouldn't that be basically the same as using a fuse if they fit the mod?"

The answer given by another member was:

"Protected batteries are "generally speaking" the wrong chemistry for vaping --- cobalt chemistry. They are not a "safer chemistry" like IMR or hybrid chemistry batteries used in the vaping community, hence the need for protective circuitry. Unprotected batteries usually are a "safer chemistry" (often a nickle or manganese component), not as likely to flame or explode like protected batteries when a short circuit occurs. Generally speaking, protected batteries have higher mAh but a lower amp rating. Unprotected batteries often have higher amp ratings and lower mAh."

All way over my head.

Aye, the difference between expert and professional. An expert can tell you all they know, all day and night. A professional goes on a gets a month's worth of work done in a day and watches the expert jaw away. *grins*

And no, no disrespect here either nor did I see any in my friend here's post. I understood his meaning. So much in vaping is "ask somebody that knows", and then you do, and get fifty different answers telling you nothing. *nodding* So many "experts". *chuckles*

So as life. Do what you think right. Does it feel right to you? Well keep on because it probably is right for you. Do you need a priest to tell you that? Probably not. *chuckles*
