The Truth About Calorie Restriction and Weight Loss



Counting calories is a common diet technique. It involves carefully planning all of your meals to make sure the amount of calories in your food is under a certain threshold. The basic idea behind this is that if you eat fewer calories than your body needs for energy, you should burn fat and lose weight. Does this really work?



The Truth About Counting Calories



Lowering your calorie intake modestly is a smart way to lose weight long term. This involves eating foods that are generally lower in sugar, unhealthy fats and processed ingredients, which is a good idea anyway. It’s important for your body to have plenty of nutrients.



It really shouldn’t come as a surprise that making homemade meals with fresh veggies and low-fat protein is better for losing weight than zipping through a drive-thru for a greasy burger and a huge soda. As an added perk, getting healthy omega-3 fats, vitamins and antioxidants makes you feel all-around great, from enjoying more energy to finding relief from joint pain.



The Low-Calorie Fallacy

In fact, extreme diets can actually make you GAIN weight. Why?



1. Cutting Too Many Calories Kills Your Metabolism

All of this can cause you to gain pounds. Stress triggers a hormone called cortisol that makes you hungry ALL THE TIME. It ups your cravings for sugar, fat, salt — you name it.



The Secrets To Eating Healthy and Really Losing Weight



It’s better to choose a diet that makes you feel satisfied and content. In other words, you want to get to the point where you don’t eat a lot of sugar or fat because they don’t really appeal to you as much. You don’t have as many cravings because you love the healthy foods you’re eating.



Also, look for natural ways to boost your metabolism instead of slowing it down. Include plenty of protein in your diet with eggs, nuts, fish, meat or dairy. These foods increase your metabolism, reduce cravings and help you feel full faster.



Above all, enjoy life. We’re not saying to indulge in dessert constantly, but you can make smart choices while still spending time with the people who make you happy. It’s OK to go to a restaurant with friends and order a smaller portion of something reasonably healthy.

The well-known phrase “You are what you eat” is getting a little outdated. This new phrase holds more truth:

“You are what you can digest and absorb.”

If our digestive function is compromised, we cannot fully benefit from the nutrients in our diet - no matter how high the quality of our foods.

During this festive feasting season (Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years, and any other holidays you celebrate in the winter months), I’m not going to tell you to restrict foods and skip out on holiday favorites. Instead, I want to help you fully enjoy a balanced holiday meal and digest food more efficiently while doing so.

It will help you feel and look better during times of feasts and beyond.


How digestion impacts your hormones

Digestive health is critical for hormone balance and overall health. I've personally never met a person struggling with digestive issues (such as bloating, constipation, IBS, loose stools, gas and acid reflux) who is enjoying excellent overall health and balanced hormones. It just doesn’t happen.
Here’s a glimpse into how an unhealthy gut environment can shake up hormone levels.
Estrogen: A leaky gut does not effectively excrete “dirty” estrogens (they are antagonistic metabolites) out of your body. Instead, they stay in circulation, causing Estrogen Dominance.
Estrobolome: This is a subset of bacteria in the gut that helps to metabolize estrogens and disarm the “dirty” estrogens (which are the harmful estrogen metabolites) that cause cancers in the thyroid, breast, ovaries and uterus. Most people with leaky gut have a host of estrogen problems.
Thyroid hormones: Part of your conversion of T4 thyroid hormone into the stronger, more active T3 form, occurs in your gut—but may be compromised if your gut is unhealthy.
Chronic inflammation of hormone receptors: Chronic digestive distress leads to chronic inflammation. This long-lasting inflammation shuts down hormone receptors making the update of hormones highly inefficient. Inflammation is also the root cause of various conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, and hormonal imbalances.
Sleep and mood hormones: Around 80-90% of serotonin (your happiness hormone) and melatonin (which induces sleep and is produced from serotonin, in total darkness) are made in your gut. That production can go haywire due to a leaky gut. Poor sleep makes hormone imbalances worse.
Insulin levels: The healthier your gut function, the more stable your blood glucose, the less you crave sugar and the less insulin you release. On the flip-side, an unhealthy gut can predispose you to insulin resistance, where your energy cycle doesn’t work properly, which also reduces your ability to burn fat.
Appetite hormones: An inflamed, unhealthy gut promotes unhealthy bacteria that can change your levels of ghrelin (which makes you hungry) and leptin (which signals when you’re full). It can also impact the food you crave and your taste receptors.
Optimize digestion with enzymes, amino acids, herbs, and bitters
Anyone who displays any of these signs is in need of digestive support:
  • Occasional bloating and gas, particularly after eating
  • Feeling full after eating only a small quantity of food
  • Infrequent mild indigestion/heartburn (components of undigested food bubbles back up into the esophagus)
  • Bowel irregularities such as occasional diarrhea and/or constipation
  • Seeing undigested food particles in stools
  • Many food sensitivities and intolerances
  • Allergies
  • Estrogen dominance
  • History of gallbladder problems
  • Lost gallbladder to surgery
If you’ve tried an elimination diet like the one in my book Overcoming Estrogen Dominance, and are still experiencing digestive problems, it could be time to try approaching the issue with supplements.

"Australian health chief says unvaccinated will be 'lonely' and 'miserable' for life​

The Queensland president of the Australian Medical Association had a stern warning for the unvaccinated: get the shot or live a lonely, miserable life.

In what seems more like a threat than a warning, Australian health chief Dr. Chris Perry claims that people who refuse to be vaccinated will be “miserable” and “lonely” for the rest of their lives.

Perry, who is the Queensland president of the Australian Medical Association, made his remarks during a television appearance addressing vaccine-hesitant Australians.

“Oh, they’re crazy not to get vaccinated, life will be miserable without getting vaccinated,” warned Perry. “You won’t be able to hide, you won’t be able to get a doctor to sign off that you got an exclusion because there’s quite set rules on that and doctors will be audited, every one of their exclusions will be looked at very carefully.”

Perry threatened doctors with fines and termination for skirting government rules, and also threatened people who falsely obtain a vaccine exemption, warning that they will be hit by fraud charges if they “try to get round the system.”

Summit News reported that the Queensland health official warned that those who refuse to get the vaccine will find it difficult to keep their jobs and that they will not be able to attend public venues for entertainment.

“It’s going to be very hard to maintain your employment if you’re not vaccinated and you won’t be able to go anywhere for any entertainment,” he said.

Perry promised that anyone who refuses to get both jabs of the vaccine will have a “very, very lonely life,” and that they will not be able to maintain a job.

In the subsequent comments, the doctors blamed “conspiracy theorists” for exacerbating vaccine hesitancy.

“In the age of social media, any potential slight headache or small, serious problem with the vaccines is magnified,” he said."

Drats, I didn't know he was in our region. I would have made the hour drive there just to be able to voice my opinion.
But honestly, this is being touted by the media as things of concern, fears for safety. You gotta be kidding me. A handful of protesters, mostly old ladies, and the Premier was scared and the police had to escort him out of the town! :giggle:
In another footage of "violent scary" protesters some are even, wait for it, .......standing still under an umbrella because of the weather! And yes some more scary old ladies were there too.
Has to the the scariest protests iv ever seen.
How pathetic and utterly gutless. A proper person who is elected and payed by public money should have said "ok, while im here I'll let you have your say, what are your grievences".
Instead of running away pretending it was dangerous.
And knowing how the media beats things up and cherry picks, this footage was the most dangerous they could come up with and make it look.

We know better than to let our negative emotions run the show. Yet when we are presented with a stressful situation, we don't actually think or apply logic.

Instead, we react impulsively. When things are going well, it's easy to apply self-improvement strategies. When things go south, it becomes much harder to stay rational.

It's important to practice putting some space between the event and your reaction. Distract yourself or walk away from the situation so you can address it later when you're in a better frame of mind.

Raising your awareness about how you manage your emotions can help you to become more balanced and more in control.

If you're stuck at home all day and working by a sunny window, it is good for your mental health, but it isn't doing your skin any favors. Though most windows probably block UVB rays (which cause sunburns), UVA rays do penetrate through glass. These guys are the ones linked to deep wrinkles, sunspots and cancer.

So what does this mean then? You probably aren't going to burn sitting by your window. But you will be doing long-term damage to your skin. So wear an SPF of 30 or higher on any part of your skin that's exposed while sitting near any sunlit window.

It also wouldn't hurt to look into investing in a sunscreen that additionally protects against blue light, which is given off by tech like your laptop, phone and TV. There isn't much research as to how much blue light exposure damages your skin, but, just like UVA rays, we do know that blue light breaks down collagen and ages your skin.

As always, broad-spectrum protection is best, as is anything at or over SPF 30. We should also be sure to check the label to see how often to reapply (which will also depend on how much time you're spending sitting at that window and whether or not you're directly hit by the sun.

You Have the Power to Say “No”
Americans across the country are standing up to the tyranny from the White House over so-called “vaccine mandates.” Despite Press Secretary Jen Psaki’s assertion that “we know federal law overrides state law,” and the assertion that the OSHA can “preempt inconsistent state and local requirements that ban or limit employers’ authority to require vaccination” by providing the “necessary legal authorization,” vaccine mandates from the White House are not legal.
The latest razzle-dazzle came in the form of an “Emergency Temporary Standard” from OSHA, requiring private companies with 100 or more employees to mandate vaccination, or require all unvaccinated workers mask, and test weekly at their own expense. Likewise, mandates have been ordered for anyone directly under federal contract such as military, health care, employees and contractors. In a move that conveniently ignored the uprising of those not vaccinated by previous deadlines, the White House consolidated all vaccine requirements to the same day: January 4, 2022.
The Emergency Temporary Standard (a.k.a. “mandate”), published November 5, 2021 in the Federal Register, was intended to both to trigger the mandate to go into effect immediately, and start the legal process to turn the temporary standard into a formal rule.
Instead of immediate compliance, the White House was met with instant resistance. Business owners and state governments across the country were ready to go to court. Within hours of publication, 27 states sued, challenging the White House in multiple jurisdictions. The Fifth Circuit (which covers Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi) acted quickly to stop the illegal mandate from being imposed through OSHA in response to a lawsuit brought by a Louisiana grocery chain owner. The White House is calling for a consolidated appeal to a circuit “chosen at random” rather than answering in all jurisdictions.
