First NET Extraction

Okay I broke down and tried my first NET. 3/4 oz Virginia Flue cured and 1/4 Virginia Sweet in 100% vg. I also added 1/2 teaspoon of my extracted vanilla. Six night cycles in crock pot then strained with stainless, coffee filters, and then cotton and 20 ga. syringe. After all was finish ended up with 7 oz of finished NET.

So now I have my next step I have been debating on diluting the concentrate or working with it as is. Anyone who has been dealing with NET I would sure like some input. I did mix my first 5 ml tester but wow the sniff test seems like the tobacco maybe a little overpowering.

Not just tobacco but nic also.
Get a nic test kit.. Wizard Labs has them and a few other places, it will keep you alive if you mess the nic content up.

That was my first thought after reading it. +1 for testing the nic level.

That's pretty exciting @PincheWero!

I'm by no means an expert, but I've dabbled and have a few spice extracts as well as tobaccos. In general- concentration is going to be weaker than store bought concentrates. Most of mine need up to 25% extract. YMMV of course, really depends on the ratio of your tobacco to PG among other things, length of maceration, etc.- all highly variable of course. Good luck!

Perfecting NET's can be a fickle mistress & requires some finesse. I experimented with NET's shortly after I started doing DIY as I wanted a more authentic tobacco flavor & experience from my juice. I used M-Red tobacco as that's what I smoked (not the best choice of tobacco due to all the harmful chemicals, I only choose this as I was still trying to refrain from smoking at the time, IT WORKED!) & extracted it in 100% PG. Due to the lower viscosity PG works WAY better for NET's than VG, not to mention higher PG ratios just work much better for tobacco flavors in general. Although you can use VG, unless you are allergic to PG I would recommend using 100% PG or the highest ratio of PG your comfortable using for NET's.
When you do the extraction you want to keep the PG/VG really warm but not hot, I would say around 150*F or so but if you get it too hot it does something bad to the tobacco & produces undesirable results, at least in my experience. When I did the extraction keeping the PG really warm but not hot it produced a really authentic tobacco flavor & experience, it was a very satisfying vape. When I did the extraction with the PG hot it seemed to "over cook" the tobacco & produced a very bitter, burnt kind of flavor, again in my experience. I only did NET's a few times & as such I am no expert by any means, I'm just relaying my method & my experience.
As I stated, commercial cigarette tobacco isn't the best choice for NET's, due to all the horrible chemicals/additives they contain. A much better option for NET's is to go to a cigar store like Briar Patch & check out their "aromatic pipe tobaccos", they have some really rich smelling pipe tobaccos that work great for NET's. Smell the tobaccos & choose the one's that smell good to you, the aroma they produce will play a big part in the flavor they produce in your extraction.

I ordered from leafonly purchasing Virginia Flue Cured and Brightleaf Virginia Flue Cured - Sweet for NET extraction, both have an amazing smell. I went with 100% VG knowing it would be harder to work with, higher PG juices does mess with my heart rhythm (afib and v tach). That is one of the biggest reasons I started DIY, "house" juice and even some "premium" juices just messed with my heart and lungs. But I digress, I had to order a new Nicotine test kit (with other goodies of course) and it should be here tomorrow or Monday, and then I will be in better position to play with the blend and dilution rates. I also have another batch running under "cold" extraction (jar in the hot water heater closet) no heat for 2 weeks then a check to compare results. I figured this might be a long process to perfect, but hope the end result will pay off.

Another thing about NET's I forgot to touch on is high viscosity filtration. After you do your extraction you have to filter the small particles of tobacco & other possible contaminants from the NET. This filtration is a pain even with PG so I imaging its a TOTAL PITA with VG, lol. Personally I used a 120ml plastic bottle (easily squeezable) with a large hole cut/drilled in the lid (just leaving a small lip around the edge), then I placed a piece of thick SS mesh (not the thin kind used for mesh wicks, the kind like what is in your sink faucet, with bigger holes) in the lid with the lip around the edge holding it in place, then I placed a piece of coffee filter on top of the SS mesh, then I filled the bottle with my NET extraction, screwed the lid on tightly, turned it upside down & squeezed the bottle over another container to catch the filtered NET. With the coffee filter over the SS mesh you can squeeze it very hard & it won't burst a hole in the coffee filter (learned that the hard way, lol), the harder you squeeze the faster it will filter. I'm sure there are better methods for high viscosity filtration but this is what I used & it worked pretty good for me.
