I agree Consumer Report's recommendations are biased by what factors they decide are important and how much weight they assign to those factors. For cars, they rate fuel economy and expensive green hybrid vehicles much higher than I would for example. But I think the reliability survey of vehicle owners reported by Consumer Reports is objective. It's not their opinion but the collective experience of owners.

thanks hazy, and thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I kind of panicked and returned my machine to the original factory settings and that got rid of all the crap. I have no idea where I picked all of that up...I really haven't even surfed very much on this laptop yet. but I will download all the programs you suggested and run them religiously. hopefully I will not have any more problems like that.

Shit just doesn't work like it used to. I bought an mp3 player today and it chokes after just a few downloads, the power button is f'd up, and the only way to delete anything is to delete everything. It wasn't a cheap one either...I'd probably have better luck with a cheap one. meh. Now it's gotta go back.

I've got a pretty strong stomach, but one scene in 'Hannibal', almost made me a little queasy...the 'un-capping' scene...pretty realistic. Lotta the Japanese horror is pure blood spray, deserved, or not.

Oh god THAT move I couldn't even. Not even the book. *shudder* Oddly enough, especially with Japanese horror (not anime) that if the blood spray is waaaay too over the top, it doesn't bother me. Like Ichii the Killer. That's a good one if you haven't seen it. I think QT got a lot of his over-the-top blood scenes (and more) from Japanese films.
