I've never understood the stealth vaping thing so out of curiosity i thought id post this thread

Taking basic manners into consideration (Im not talking about a cloudchasing in public debate as that's been done) if your vaping outside or in a place where its morally acceptable and allowed are you someone like me who strolls along proudly vaping and thinks as long as your not taking the piss its a good thing to be noticed as this will acclimatize the general public and are quite comfortable with inquisitive looks or being questioned about it

or are you the stealthy type who like to vape as inconspicuously as possible and would rather not be noticed vaping at all and if so why is this ?

just to be clear im NOT talking about extreme forms of vaping or sub ohm cloud chucking or blowing it in the direction of people or doing it in an antisocial way or anything else that might give vaping a bad rep just responsible vaping in public.

Great question Zoe. I only vape where it is acceptable.

I think anyone over here that "stealth" vapes, is doing it in places they are not supposed to vape. Hence, the reason for stealth. I do not support that.

I don't care if people see me vaping, and I do not mind questions.

I don't vape anywhere it's considered unaceptable to smoke, that being said I do vape in public and recive some funny looks sometime. Of course I only use a mech mod so there is usually a pretty fair amount of vapor. I try not to vape in any situation where others have to be subjected to my cloud though. When I smoked I went by the same rules, no one wants to smell a cloud of smoke and I think it's just respectful to not blow a big cloud of vapor across someone either. Of course I don't try to hide the fact that I'm vaping when I cross a parking lot, or I'm in any simular outdoor situation.

I vape in the smoking area usually and don't vape in public areas and try not to blow clouds if its going to hit people's faces. I just vape like I used to smoke. I hate people who vape in crowded ( cloud blowing not stealthly) places it just makes us look bad.

No doubt about that, I think the vaping community catches a hard enough time already. We don't need any bad publicity, plus clouding someone out is just bad manners.

What would you think if you saw someone smoking tobacco out of a water bong in public? that's basically along the lines of how a non smoker views vaping; they don't know, or care for that matter if you are vaping an awesome vanilla custard, herbs, a zero nicotine VG or recently quit smoking altogether.

I only stealth vape when I don't want to be seen, like in the loading dock of the Farm and Fleet.

I am doing something to improve my health ,lower insurance costs ,set an example for my family and others . While also showing smokers there is something else . Thats how I learned about it , so no ,I do not hide . If I am doing something right why hide it ? But that is just me , to each his own I guess . But there is no excuse for being impolite .

IDK man, Water bongs are perceived a bit differently. They have been around for a long long time and there is an absolute ingrained perception of anyone who vaguely knows what one is, an illegal device to smoke dope.
When some old curmudgeon see a bong its all like "Aw dammit margeret, that neighbor boy is doin drugs on his porch again, im callin the cops"

Vapor devices are not dead set in the mental stereotypes of americans yet. Theres a big difference between hitting a box mod in front of walmart and hitting a water bong in front of walmart.

Yeah, I'm with ya on that front!

I don't vape anywhere that smoking would be unacceptable (besides my office where I can close the door and no one ever knows) and I don't try and hide it when I'm out in public. I work on a big college campus and I have to walk between buildings quite frequently so I'm always walking and vaping. I've got a box mod with a kanger subtank and I don't try and hide it, I've had several people ask me about it and I always run into smokers out in the bar district that think it's awesome and never realized there was quality vaping gear like mine out there.

I don't hide it. But I don't advertise it either. I vape in establishments only with their OK first. And even that is only bars, taverns and concert halls/stadiums. never in restaurants or stores. I don't ever feel compelled to vape while in Wal-Mart and don't understand how other people are either. You couldn't fire up while shopping before. You had to wait to go outside to smoke.

I vape in bars because smoking bans in bars make about as much send as flushing before you piss. I don't stealth vape, I have when my mom was in the hospital, but other than that I blown my clouds(normal ones). When I am stuck on the smoke pit at school I blow big clouds. I'm forced to be there, I don't want to smell it or taste it when it hits me in the face. I have had smokers blow smoke my way and then bitch when I put out a plume. I told him if you're worried about my vapor maybe you should quit smoking or get over it. I said you just blew smoke my way and I don't want 2nd hand smoke. There is no such thing as 2nd hand vapor. He shut up pretty fast and told me it smelled good.

I wish you had put "both" on there as an option.

I vape proudly in public, because I want current smokers to see me and ask questions. I couldn't care less about the non smokers.

I do however, vape anywhere and everywhere that I want to regardless as to whether or not it is "permitted". I decide where it is permitted. I have multiple techniques. The simplest is to take small puffs, and never exhale anything. This is great on airplanes, restaurants, etc.. If I do not exhale a cloud, it is called inhaling, not vaping. I have never seen any mention that it was not acceptable to inhale anything anywhere. ALL of the objections are regarding what is usually exhaled. Nothing exhaled = no issue.

I do not sub-ohm or blow big clouds, ever. If I am in any public building, or outdoors in a non smoking area, I simply find an out of view location, and vape. By the time anyone gets close, the vape has dissipated. You can vape all you want in an Airplane lavatory as long as you blow the vape down, away from the smoke detector. In the stall in the men's room, I vape and exhale into my shirt. I vape walking though crowds, and simple exhale real slowly as I walk. I also use the 'there's 50 people in this room, and I have no where to go to get out of view, so i just act like it is okay and take a normal hit without trying to hide it' technique. No one ever notices.

We all know that none of these restrictions are about health, or courtesy. They are about people who have been able to gain some modicum of control over the actions of others getting upset that those people have found a way to get out from under their control. It is time that I stand up for my right as a free American to do what I want as long as I am not harming anyone. Prove that I am doing harm, and then ASK me to stop. Otherwise, my rights are equal to everyone else's...

Vaping is not smoking, so those signs dont concern me. I pretty much vape wherever I feel, except my wifes car (her request) and my inlaws house out of respect for them (they have never smoked). Im not an ass about it I just do it.

I tend to vape like I smoked when in public. Just make sure I am kinda off by myself not bothering anyone. When Im on the street or go outside for a quick vape I tend to be stealthy. Not sure why? Just nervous what people might say I guess

I said the same thing on other threads, but I vape openly, respectfully without ANY hint of stealth.
If we act like we're doing something wrong, the public will perceive it that way.
Vape as if it's the most natural, harmless thing in the world and that's how it will be viewed

YES!! Most of those who are "offended" are just pissed because I've found a means of enjoying my nicotine that does no one harm. "But you're still SMOKING!" Well, it's no skin off your back and you can still kiss my ass!
Kudos to you, best post I've read all day.... ;-)

This is my way of thinking as well. at home and outside I rock an Atlantis putting out decent clouds but if i'm at work, in a store, or other public place i use my nautilus set to a lower wattage and exhale little to no vapor. I stealth vaped in front of an usher through an entire Ranger game at Madison Square Garden where smoking is not only banned throughout but re-admittance is prohibited as well. He saw what i was doing but never saw any vapor so no problem. Had I been blowing out any degree of visible vapor i can guarantee he would have at least told me to stop, if not confiscate my device or (doubtfully) ejected me.

There is an appropriate time and place for everything. my mother-in-law saw a dude in the checkout line at walmart use a dipper on a mech mod and blew a couple crazy clouds. I'd love to meet that guy and ask him (1) why he thought that was acceptable and (2) why couldn't he wait the < 3 minutes until he was outside...

Today at my usual gas station while filling up, somebody was vaping away at the pump. Didn't think twice or anything strange about it, but when the attendant came running out yelling "no smoking!!" it sort of dawned on me that nowadays, you see more vaping in places that you would never have thought to smoke a cigarette in the first place. I've even walked into an elevator fully fogged out by bike messengers, in a building where half the tenants are trial lawyers & PAC's no less... nice job.

So with that said, do you notice there are more "no electronic cigarettes" signs being posted, posted in places where you couldn't even smoke cigarettes to being with? I doubt that was posted as a preventative measure, it was likely posted because some douchebags pissed off some NIMBY/ANTZ types who do what they do best, complain.

That said, I'm sure these complainers are also the ones that like to write letters to the do-gooder bureaucrats, who in turn become emboldened and try to introduce many of these ridiculous bills that vapers have to fight against all the time. Silly cycle of things I guess ;)

So I am walking away from the smoke pit today. I blew a cloud and had a smoker give me the hack hack cough that a non smoker gives. I looked at her and laughed, then kept on walking. Is this what the work has come to lol? I wanted to cough back and say at least it doesn't smell like ass, but I controlled my self.

I try not to bother other people when I vape just like when I use to smoke. Even before they started coming out with the no smoking areas and all that junk. I figure why give the idiots more to complain about and hurt the vaping industry.

I don't vape in stores and stuff and I do not blow clouds everywhere I go. When I am in a smoke pit I do t want to smell that crap. I am forced to be here by school rules. My theory is if I have to breath and smell smoke, I have the right to do what I can to not smell it. I really do not care if I piss the smokers of lol.

I just smoke it like I would a cigarette. If I want people to notice, I do it, but I mainly smoke for my nic fix. Some people I pass think it's cool, some are on their little "cancer just smoke anti-freeze" phase, but all in all, I'd rather be smelling like my choice of flavor than tobacco.

it depends. my house? vape all over. other people's home, vape inside just explaining first if they don't know what it is. in stores, when no workers are around me. sometimes even then. but other places I either vape in a bathroom stall like I'm back in high school with an analog or try to keep it outdoors. I try to be somewhat respectful and not be hassled. glad I'm not in OK anymoreーthey had vape free campus signs (outdoors!) but here in NC vaping is relatively new to the mainstream so I can get away with it hassle free moreso. but I don't obnoxiously all over the place indoors.

If you vape indoors in a public place I'd consider you an ass unless its permitted. Vaping clouds in a Walmart is just ammunition for uneducated people to think the worst.
I have a bar nearby that the owners vape at and permit vaping. It's nice to have permission first and educate from there. If you are vaping to draw attention in public, you aren't trying to educate you are just showing off. Like a prior poster said, why can't you wait 3 minutes?
As far as stealth vaping and not exhaling or blowing it down your shirt, that's fine. Just don't be a show off and ruin shit for everyone.

To combine NIMBY and Think of the Children, a lot of people don't want shit around their kids. I am expecting a newborn soon and I won't vape around him like I wouldn't smoke around him. Joe Rogan was complaining about someone chucking clouds in a restaurant while eating with his kids on a podcast recently.
He's very pro some unspeakable things on this forum, and pro personal freedom, but there is a time and place for adults to do adult things.

I guess I'm the only stealth vaper here. I vape at home, and in my car, which is exactly how I chose to smoke. I'm neither embarrassed nor proud, just very private. There are many things I'm allowed to do in public, but simply choose not too. I'm more than happy to discuss the benefits of vaping with anyone who knows I vape, but don't seek out the opportunity to do so. It works for me!

I don't always stealth vape but when I do it's stealthy lol Just kidding. I vape like when I smoked. Very considerate. If it's bothering someone I'll stop or move away. I really hate vaping when it's quiet, sounds like your doing something illegal with the air sound and crackling sounds.

Would you 'not vape unless smoking permitted' people vape in a non-smoking hotel room?

I vape freely in my car and office and rarely carry my mod into a store, but I'll stealth vape if trapped somewhere for a long time no matter where I am. Grabbing a quick hit or two is pretty easy to pull off undetected, so I rarely ask. Thus far no one has noticed.
