Tesla Invader II: Nice improvements

I stopped by my local B&M to try out some mechanical box mods yesterday as I was looking for a dual 18650 box. I knew they had the Tesla Invader I, Tesla Invader II and the IVOGO Dimitri clone so I thought I'd do a little shootout in my spare time.

In my head I wanted the Dimitri. I love the looks as well as the box shape and overall design. The Dimitri was nice but had some faults that I knew would get on my nerves. First, I had to use a screwdriver to get my flat top batteries in and out. That kind of defeats the purpose of a magnetic door if I need a screwdriver anyway. Second, not all of my attys sat flush on the 510. Third, I wasn't loving the top mounted fire button and lastly it just didn't hit hard.

I had tried the Tesla Invader I and wasn't thrilled with a number of things I felt were wrong with that mod. First, the black wood looked cheap. I wasn't impressed with the QC on the unit I tried. It had crooked stickers, chips in the wood, poorly executed magnets and a mediocre at best finish. I also wasn't thrilled with the execution of the fuse in the circuit. I am pleased to say the Invader II has a dressed nearly all these issues with noticeable improvements.

I ended up purchasing the Invader II. For $40.00 (cheaper online) I'm extremely happy and feel it's well worth the money.

Packaging 8/10. No instructions or documentation came with the mod. The box is nice but the star of the show is the excellent leatherette carry pouch. It's one of the nicest I've seen and is easily a $10+ item on its own. A very nice accessory included with the mod.

Fit and Finish 7/10. Compared to Invader I the II just looks and feels like more care was taken. The red wood has much nicer grain and feel than the black. The magnets are stronger rare earth magnets than in the Invader I and hold the door much more snug. The door fits better than the previous model. The stickers on the inside are installed straight. The engraving, both logo and serial number are sharper and neater than the original version. The batteries fit perfectly snug, easy to install and remove with no rattle or fear of them moving at all if you don't want them to. That said, it's far from perfect. There were a few small chips I lightly sanded to smooth out. The battery door isn't perfectly flush with the mod. Overall it's very good for a $40 mod. Not so much if this was $160+

Performance 10/10. Everything else is pretty meaningless if the mod doesn't perform and oh does this mod perform! The button is excellent. Very easy to push and fires every time. The mod is nice and light, very comfortable in the hand.

I have not opened the mod up but Tesla has pics on their site of the internals. The are 3 Mosfets on a small PCB inside. It has reverse battery protection as well as short protection and will fire down to .1 ohm.

I'm currently running a Little Boy with a single parallel coil at .15 ohm and a Dark Horse with a .18 dual coil build. Compared to the Dimitri the Invader II hits noticeably harder. It also hits harder than my Paragon and copper Nemisis. I truly wasn't expecting this level of performance for 40 bux.

I hope this review was helpful as I've only seen one video review of the version 2 and very little written about it. It would be very easy to dismiss the version 2 as a purely cosmetic upgrade as nearly all the improves are inside. If you're looking for a cheap unregulated box you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not adding this to your list.

I have v1. The way it's designed the button placement is perfect and comfortable. v1 and v2 are nice beater mods.

I'm considering one of these, mainly because I want to try the mech boxes, but not have to take out a second mortgage to buy one. It does look sweet, & I feel the button placement would not be an issue for me. I work with wood too, & anything wood, I like. The feature of 2 18650's is a big plus for me also, as I seem to be doing alot of battery changing throughout the day. I use either the Samsungs, or the Efest purple, 35a batteries, & burning through one of those in short order is getting tiresome.

If it hits harder than the FUhattan I am using now, then we're golden...so back to looking at the Tesla Invader, & doing some more research....:)

Ordered one from FT, going to sand the crap out of it and try to round off the angular edges and refinish to a antique tobacco finish. I own the Dimitri, Slug, SMPL, and too many other tube mech's to mention. Hope the performance is as good as you say.

Currently, I'm bidding on a handmade mech box on Ebay, from a guy that has all 100% positive feedback & very high ratings. The box looks really good, & I'm anxious to get it & try it out. I've done alot of reading on the Tesla Invader II, but there's not too many reviews on YouTube, & that was what I was wanting to see. But the 2 that I did find spoke easy on it, & described the big improvements over the v1.

So, for the time being, I'm still contemplating it, & doing more research. I'll keep you guys posted should I decide to go ahead & get one....Hope everyone has a great weekend! Stay safe & WARM, it's a whiteout here...:)

I've been vaping it everyday since I got it with a lot of different attys. .15-.70 ohms. So far the Tesla hits harder than any of my mechanicals. I bought it to see how I'd like a 2 battery box mod. I love it. I took it to two shops over the weekend where workers were not familiar with it. They checked it out and vaped it. Both guys said they thought it was a $150.00 mod. When I told them it's $27.00 on FT they're jaws dropped. I'm going to buy another one in the other color as a backup as at these prices I can't build one cheaper. A mega hard hitter, built well with safety features? There's no reason not to try one.

I wanted to order the brown colored one on FT but it was ships in 5 days status and the CNY was approaching fast. The red one was ships next day so I ordered it and that's why I'm planning on refinishing to a color I like. Good to hear about the stellar performance so far, mine has shipped and should be arriving this week hopefully.

This is how the Tesla Invader II should have looked out of the box. 15 minutes with a palm sander and a little wax, smoothed out all the hard edges and now it's ready for prime time. That's three heavy hitters right dare!!!

Should look good, you do know that the Invader 1 doesn't have a mosfet right? Though it might not be an issue unless you are going with extremely low ohms. Any reason you are going with 1 vs. 2? From review's I've read on 1, it does have some issues that have been improved or eliminated with 2.

neither model has a mosfet that is a blatant lie both models contain a 30a self resetting in line circuit. most of the other differences are minor or cosmetic nd i like the sharp fingers over the blunted ones.

Actually it has 3 but anyway, I was just curious why you were ordering 1 vs. 2, I wouldn't try to lead you astray, I sanded the crap out of mine because I didn't like the sharp edges of the finger grooves as you can see from the OP pics vs. what I posted.

It's been performing excellent, my only complaint is my Marquis rda hasn't arrived yet from FT & it was ordered way before I ordered the Invader, so I've been using my Pulse G genie and it just doesn't compare with any of my rda's.

Edit: I just took one of my Veritas off of another mod and put it on the Invader and it hits pretty good, at least as hard as my Dimitri.

i think the three just came as a package deal there really isnt all that many reasons to have a three mosfet chip in there but hell who am i to judge it looks great and cant beat the price.

Yeah, I agree, probably the best deal on a wood dual battery box mod that you are going to find 1 or 2 are a steal.

Is that ver 1 or 2, I can't tell from the pic. I really like the look you got, makes it look like it's been around awhile. I agree about the wood it's very fine grained and feels good in the hand. I thought the red color on mine was a stain but it's the actual wood color.

@ej1024,Like the color...rubber gloves are your friend. I'm guessing it took some solvent to get that off your hands, unless you used a water based one.

I plan on getting a v2 and stripping it and re-staining with light cherry wood after I sand and put some fill on it and sand again. Should come out looking nice.

@Zamazam , The red V2 has nothing to strip, the red color is the wood color, I sanded mine down I'd say a good 1/2, 3/4 inch and it's still reddish brown. I'm not sure about the brown V2 and if it's a lighter color wood after sanding like the black V1 is. You probably can still stain it darker no matter what the wood color is though. The wood is much higher quality than I expected it to be.

I'm more of a flavor chaser running a Marquis with dual vertical 24ga. kanthal at .30 with rayon and diy 95%vg juice. I get much better flavor with this setup than my Veritas single coil. But the Marquis definitely leaks more from the air holes and around the base than the Veritas does..

Hey guys! Im new to the this forum. I joined specifically to get information about the Invader II. Im currently vaping on a 1300 mAh variable voltage pen with a nautlus mini tank. What tank would you suggest using for the Invader II? would my current tank do the trick or should I be looking for something else? I'm not interested in dripping at the moment. It seems time consuming and messy. what are the pros and cons of a tank on this mod? thank you in advance for any help!

Use a .2 or .3 Ohm coil in a sub tank. lotsa vapor, if that's what you are after.

Yes, that's what I'm after! The nautilus mini runs at 1.8 ohms. Any recommendations? I realize you posted on both threads I commented on. Thank you for the help!
