? About IPV mini V2 chip

Ok so I keep reading that the mini v2 has a Yihi SX330-V2C chip in it. But I can clearly check it on mine and it has a SX130-v7.0 so what gives? It does go to 70w and works great so no complaints there at all. Just wondering why they say it's that chip when it isn't.

I saw that after the fact I must admit I am not that up to date on the ipv mini v2 beyond the operating specs. I was thinking it was a 130 something board but that seems to be the v1 board.

Best thing to do would be to contact the vendor to see why the mod is showing a v1 board upon start up.

I will say that up to 70 watts mine is every bit as solid as my iPV3, I don't have the means to test it, but it certainly seems to be putting out the power, no question. My only complaint is that batteries just get drained like crazy, but it's single 18650. I wanted to put my singles in rotation more frequently. I'm gonna have to try this.

I don't know how the ipv mini v2 is but the ipv3 you have to hold the fire button down right after inserting the batteries to get the chip info to show on the screen.

Hold the power button when putting on the battery cover...

The issue isn't what chipset really... it provides the 70w as advertised.... it is just odd they'd say it has one chipset when it's says another.

@Fictitious Character and @rdsok thank you both for clarifying. I always just get the P4Y splash screen when the battery/ies are inserted. I'll check my Mini 2 and see what it says. It would be strange if it were an SX130 rather than a 330, but all I care about is performance. Being misled isn't cool, however, but I suppose I will check to see. Again, it does as advertised so I'm happy. I'll report back.

I wonder if the firmware might have to be toned down to one more fitting for the 130 in order for the 330 V3C to not output 150+ watts? That would be no good with a single battery. I believe the SX350 has different firmware for the single battery boxes to cap it at 60 watts? If that's the case maybe it's a similar deal. With YIHI being Chinese, maybe 130 & 330 got a digit lost in translation. We know how good these companies are at that.

I've had my iPV3 since December, so I've become pretty familiar with the new world of regulated boxes, before that I was all mechs with an MVP 2 also. Again, I'll check it out here soon. Will be interesting to see what's up, I feel like another thread had mentioned this, too.

Seems there might be some fibbing going on regarding chipsets in these Minis. Vendors give awful info, too. iPV3's have a six month warranty as do the Mini 2's, yet most websites still say one year. Weirdness.

Yeah vendors copy and paste the initial description and often do not change it so if misinformation was given early on it is likely it has just stuck.

For sure. I certainly would be more careful than that if I were a vendor, for many reasons. That's why research is key prior to purchase. I could spare the money to preorder an iPV4, and I had one in my cart. I didn't do it, though. If the temp control isn't great, and or I have difficulties building for it, or don't like it, I'm out cash for a mod that does nothing I can't already do with my 3 and Mini 2. Not to mention more batteries, lol.

By the way, one thing nice about the Mini 2 as opposed to the iPV3, is it retains your memory settings when changing batteries. At this point, it takes me a minute to set them at most, but not having to sure is nice.

Yeah, that M class is sexy, and the form factor is very similar to the Mini 2, which is really comfy for me. My hands aren't small, but not huge, either. The iPV3 is fine, but the Mini and M class are more comfortable. It's also overpriced. You can preorder an iPV4 for 65-75$, and my experience with the mini tells me that the M class will destroy batteries. Sure looks nice, though. I have a feeling I'll be ordering a 4 and some nickel wire in the not too distant future.

I have thought about the battery thing but I rotate a few mods for the most part so I don't think it will matter much. Plus I really want to compare it to the dna 40. You are right though it is a large price difference if it functions similarly.

@jasonculp thanks for the teardown. It seems it really is what they claim. I'm guessing maybe my theory of using SX130 firmware to tame down the chip might be the case? Who knows. Certainly is clearly marked as a 330.

Thats cool man. I wish had the skills to mess around like that. I can handle breaking down mechs, but id never even try with one of my regulated boxes. If you ever get around to it, will be interesting to see the comparisons.

After the message is shown on mine... the screen goes blank and then I just use the 5 clicks to turn it on...

My old mini v2 I had to take battery out and put back in to get it to power on after checking chip.
