I am finally being pulled off a med that has caused me to blow up like a balloon over the last 6 months. I am wanting to drop this along with alot more (wanting to lose roughly 100lbs). Was wondering what are your tips and tricks that helped you stay on your path or what diets have worked best for you and why. I am trying to figure out what I can do and looking for ideas on diets and on healthy recipes on a budget. I am a single momma of two and barely make enough for groceries some months since I do it all alone. I end up with alot of pasta in my house so looking for healthy dishes someone can grab cheap especially. I could be a vegetarian if it wasnt for the occasional craving for a good steak lol

Quit eating 4 legged animals, and cut down on salt.
Veggey burgers are getting a lot better in taste then they used to be.
And I have heard a lot of people are using sweet, desert flavors vape juice to take the place of snaking.

LOL They do have alot of good veggie burgers out there. I dont do alot of the 4 legged critters cause they are expensive lol. I think pasta is my main down fall. Its cheap quick and easy.

Dont know why but soda makes me thirstier. I drink alot of water but not enough. I know I had seen a thing somewhere about how to figure out how much water you should drink a day. Anybody else seen anything on that? I know my brother had said also something about low carb high protein if you are going to eat within 4 hours of going to bed (so the body can process it where as it cannot process the carbs while you sleep) and to eat something within the first half hour of waking up to boost your metabolism

You should drink enough liquid (water, tea, soda,) that your pee is clear,(not yellow, or darker) and does not smell.

As long as I can have cheese and dairy I can live with lots of salads lol. I can get a 5lb bag of iceberg shredded for under $5

Thank you for the link Smoky I am going to have to check it out and then devise a way to make sure I am drinking that much water. I figure its a good start until I can get the rest of how I am going to lose weight in to place. Luckily my brother fishes so he keeps me in stock on catfish and have found I do like baked catfish. Turkey I usually only get around Thanksgiving I dont care for pork but will eat it if its cheap enough lol. Chicken I can do. Bread is going to give me a hard time.

I wish you good luck, I know you can do this. :)
If you make it a fun way to eat, they will remember it

Lettuce is pointless from a nutrient stand point.. it is water and empty.
So frozen veggies are a cheaper route and often times better nutrient wise,
but then again what do I know about diet?
Easy with the dietary adjustments to mom's diet she is 130lbs lighter and I am 85lbs lighter.

I take iceberg more of a filler rather than a nutrient. I like to get the baby spring mix when I have enough case but its alot more expensive. I refuse to use canned veggies only frozen or fresh in my kitchen :)

I have always been lucky in the fact that my kids love fruits and veggies and alot of times will chose them over junk food not always but lots of times so that makes it easier to get this change in place and keep it going :)

Have you tried sprouts?? they are good in salads and on sandwiches..
and simple enough, you can grow your own in a mason jar with cheese cloth..

I love sprouts. I am kinda scared of them though. I had a friend tell me that once you wash them if you dont use them immediately they become toxic. Would love to be able to grow my own. Have to do some research on that.

I grow them, and as long as you soak them overnight.. then drain the water out..
and rinse them 2-4 times a day.. by the 3rd or 4th day, pop them into the fridge..

they also make a spray for them.. (wash)

try: living whole foods, inc http://living-whole-foods-inc.amazonwebstore.com/

I just grew these alfalfa seeds for my parakeet, he loves them :)

the few major culprits for pain and inflamation is soy, canola and a few others.
cut those two things out and you should notice a fairly quick response from your body.

I have heard of fish oil pills is that what you are talking about or is there a way to incorporate it into cooking and does it have any weird taste to it?

actually i do the borage ones.. they include more of the vitamins and minerals besides just fish oil..
you can find them at walmart.. fish flax and borage.. they help with my ankles, due to too much dancing years ago..
it helps when i remember to take them.. otherwise my feet let me know.

Sweet I will have to get some of them. I have an app that reminds me to take my pills for the nerve damage in my hand so I will add them to it. Its a great little freebie app by MediSafe called Pill Minder. I would forget to take my meds at night and it made my night time very very rough. Havent had to many issues since I got it as long as I dont dismiss it without taking them it goes off every half hour after a preset time until I take it then dismiss it. :)

lol. I used to dismiss the alert and think ah i will take it in a minute and learned I never take it in a minute so I quit letting myself dismiss it until I had the pills in hand. That is the bad thing about the phones though. Mine drains so fast all the time granted if I would put it down more often it might hold a charge longer lol

I know I may come out as if I have discovered fire or warm water, but I found (at east in my opinion) a respectable substitute for popcorn or other movie food. You need a lemon , a carrot and some salt.

You cut the carrot into sticks, squeeze the lemon on top of it and then salt it. I am not sure that everyone will like it, but last time me and my gf made a Star Wars night ( episode IV,V and VI) we devoured at least 2 pounds of carrots.

One thing i found to do and it really did help lose some timber.

I used to drink 2 cans of monster a day, stopped it due to kept getting energy crashes, now I only ever drink water, unless i go out on the liquor

Gonna have to try that. Popcorn gets stuck in my teeth and gums so I dont like it all to well. Granted when i do eat popcorn it has to be air popped I dont like the microwaved stuff :) I always have baby carrots laying around gonna have to try this out :)

My down fall is my morning coffee. Probably wouldnt be as bad if I didnt whiten it. May try not putting creamer in it. I have to have my morning coffee though after that during the summer its cold water and in the winter its tea. Never was a major soda drinker. My downfall seems to be carbs.

The thing I am having the hardest time trying to do is my brother had said to eat within a half hour of waking up. Even if its just a small handful of nuts or something. I cannot get myself set up for that. I am not usually awake and functioning enough for anything for at least the first hour. Then half hour to work then once i get settled in at work I can grab a bite to eat. The first half hour though not happening so much. He said it kicks the metabolism into gear for the day by doing that.

I am a big fan of stir fry.

A couple of tricks I have learned, I normally start out with frozen vegetables but I always add some fresh veggies to them. Like some snow peas or broccoli florets. Thaw the veggies, wash and drain really well, add the fresh ones, then coat the veggies with oil instead of putting oil in the wok.

Blot off the excess oil then add to a screaming hot wok and then add the oil coated veggies to it, add your spices while stirring the veggies.

Serve as is or on top of a little brown rice.

Tasty and good for you.

Not much of a mess to clean up either.

I want to share a recipe that may come out as a bit strange, but I can assure you that it was really tasty.

You need some dates with the seed inside taken out, blue cheese, cream cheese and pecans or chestnuts.

You combine them viola you have something very tasty. You could roast them a little, but it will taste good anyway.

Just about anything sweet is bad. One can also never exercise enough to burn enough calories to lose a lot of weight. Regular exercise does increase the metabolism and replace fat with muscle. Diet and portions are key...

I was taking lyrica and it made it really really difficult to maintain portions. I have since been pulled off of the lyrica and now am back to being able to eat alot smaller portions instead of being a bottomless pit. The lyrica reminded me of being on prednisone. There was no such thing as enough food. I am soooo glad to be off of that. With all the great ideas here and getting off the lyrica definitely hoping to get back on the weightloss track :)

Was wondering I have some unrefined coconut oil that I bought out of the vitamin aisle. It says great for skin and hair. Would this be safe to use to cook with to until I can get some that its the baking aisle?
