One, two, three. It seems that yes, it can happen. Also seems that yes, it is a seeming rare thing.

Consider, there never will be an iron clad 100% safe guarantee regarding any technology. Also, entropy happens and even such a guarantee were issued, it would be void on the very first use of the technology.

You don't make omelettes without breaking a few eggs. You cannot pray for rain then, curse the mud the rain inevitably will bring. You can, but then you'll be reminded you asked for it.

Another favorite quote about a similar point.

"If you wish to make apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe" -- Carl Sagan

Like i sed, gasoline doesnt really seem safer. Something like battery packs, that can be swapped out, for long trips, whatever, just sounded like a familiar prob with batteries

Under the right conditions, EVs will ignite and burn. The odds are relatively low, just like the chances of having the batteries in a regulated vaping device blow up. It can happen under the right circumstances. It probably doesn't warrant having them banned or removed from the market. If auto makers don't get held accountable at all, they will likely lower their standards in the name of profit. Then, more fires will occur.
