Clone Spinner II almost burnt my hand!

Wow, I am very upset with my new battery... I got this clone Spinner II for 15.50$ on ebay, and after less than a day of use it almost burnt my hand and ruined my clearo.

I knew something was wrong right away when I first charged it and tried it out. On a full charge it would only last two hours. Now keep in mind this is a 1600 mah battery! Just now, the color jumped straight from white to orange (blue should be in between) indicating the battery was about dead (right after a full charge) and then without even pressing the button it kept firing my clearo. It burnt my atomizer so much the wick fried, and you can tell the inside of the battery is fried too because you can smell burnt plastic. It also got very hot. So hot I could barely hold it to unscrew my burning clearo.

Does this sound right? It looked like a good clone... Is this a common occurrence with clone batteries? Because if it is I will never get a clone again...

There you risk it when buying some clones, those type batteries are mass produced and half of them no doubt are wired wrong. Sorry that happened, that really sucks

It's a bad battery, recycle it. Aspire makes some decent vv twist batteries. They are bigger than the spinner, but also are I think 2200Mah.

There are clone and then there are clones.

And when you are purchasing a clone of an already inexpensive device............................?

Hopefully you can get your money back and I am glad you did not get hurt!

So... I just turned the battery on to see if it died yet and now it's been blinking nonstop for the last ten minutes, still going. 9 multi color, one blue. It won't stop. Should I be concerned like this thing is gonna set on fire or will it be okay to just let sit and die? It won't respond when I click it five times to shutoff either. It just keeps blinking.

I put it in a box outside a while ago and it's still blinking. An led takes about 20 milliamps, so I'm guessing the 1600 mah battery could take three days to drain! I really have no idea what to do then. I sure am pissed at this ebay person for selling me such a dangerous battery.

Start over, go to a reputable vendor and get another, chalk it up to lesson learned :)
I just got a clone Spinner III from MyFreedomSmokes. Should be a few days. That should be fine, right?

I originally had a legit vision spinner ll and that was fine. Died on me after 6 months of heavy use. Then I got two clones in the same purchase bot spinner ll. One fell apart on me after 3 days and the other just gave out on the 16th day. Both never took long to charge despite the instructions saying they should take 6 to 8 hours but they also never lasted more then 5 hours. Since then I have only brought legit battrys an see the difference i both safety and performance. I'm glad you didn't get hurt

By the way, it's been a day and the battery is still blinking nonstop. No way to shut it off...

Plug it back in and keep an eye on it and see if that resets it.

What type of topper are you trying to run on it?

I had a Spinner2 clone that I bought about year ago off of fleabay before wandering further down this rabbit hole and it had a couple quirks but worked fine. If this one of yours can't reset itself follow Zamazam's suggestion and recycle it and purchase something a bit more reliable that is going to be safer for your use.

I had a handful of cheap eGo clones go wonky on me in my day - I usually just chalked it up to paying the price for cheaping out and got rid of them once I ran into problems rather than trying to do any garage workshop repairs...unless you've got a skill set geared toward analyzing and repairing small electronics, I'd say just move on to the next one...

Yep, I wouldn't want it hanging around, recycle time
The blinking light makes me wonder about the topper though. I had one that did that. It was due to the topper being to low ohm for it and the only way to get the light to stop flashing was to plug it in and then it would reset. Not saying this is the case with his but it seems plausible.

Doesn't hurt to check it out, they are so low priced now a days, If it doesn't stop blinking after trying to reset it, If it were me I'd just pitch it to recycle

Just plugged it in... It stopped blinking and just made a solid color like its charging, but then I heard a high pitched noise and smelled more burning plastic and had to unplug it. It went right back to nonstop blinking immediately.

Toss that battery. It's fried. Please buy from reputable vendors. There are tons of trusted vendors online that stand behind their products. Or go to a local brick and mortar. At least with them, you have someone to complain to if there's a problem

Battery is venting..junk it...get something like a MVP20 watt or an eleaf i stick 20 watt and be done with it....those ego style batteries are among the biggest rip offs in the industry..(i dont care what reputable dealer you buy from or not)...they are way way over priced for what they are.....If you have to have that style battery then so be it but there is so much better out there for barely $15 more dollars more that will work so much better for you.

If the light is still blinking and you can't turn it off and it got really hot, you have a battery with a fried circuit board. Take a pan or bucket of tap water, go out in you yard and toss the battery in. It's DEAD. If you continue to fuck around with it and try to recharge it, you might find out what a battery looks like when it vents. Toss it in a bucket of water and then recycle it tomorrow.

I've had my Boge spinner for over six months and it's still working like new. And anything I got from eBay worked well, guess I was blessed, lol! But I think I'd invest in a good starter mod (like a KBox) and a couple of good batteries and not have near the worries.
Best advice posted yet is to bury it in the back yard. I would NOT have it in my house and go to sleep.

Yep it needs to be recycled. Do as was suggested toss it in a pan or bucket of water away from the house and when it stops recycle that thing.

Still curious what type of topper you were using with it?

What is a topper?? An atomizer? Sorry I'm not that experienced with vaping yet. I have a mini PT3 and a CE5. They always read around 1.8 ohms on my multimeter when I rebuild them.

That certainly wouldn't have shorted out your battery. You just got a bum battery. And I'd certainly message the seller.

Yep, Topper is vape speak for your atomizer. You also might encounter "clearo". Same thing, as in clearomizer, ie: a transparent atomizer like your CE5.

Yes my bad. I was curious if you were running an tank with a low resistant atomizer that would not work well with your battery and cause a short, but that tank would not have likely caused your trouble. Seems you just got a bad battery, I am glad that you were on top of the situation.

Well I have a spinner iii clone coming from MFS soon. I was hoping getting a better battery than my ijoy 650 mah would allow more headroom to build lower resistance coils. I heard the lowest resistance a low end ego can take is about 1.5 ohms, so will the spinner iii be able to handle something like .8 or 1 ohm?

I wouldn't. EGo batts aren't really designed for lower ohms. $17.95 would get you a KBox and you could really start enjoying not only a good, flavorful vape, but you could definitely advance your building skills for a minimal amount of money. Start saving up. ;)

I looked up the kbox a few days ago and it doesn't look like they include the actual battery cell? Plus I don't even think they have the same threading as my clearos because its a hole rather than ego threading.

18650 battery is separate. And it is a 510 thread, but 510 to ego adapters are only a couple of bucks. But, like I said, start saving up and go ahead and get a good tank to go with it. You won't regret it.

I think you would want to stick in that 1.5 range with the Spinner3.
A popular choice these days for an upgrade from the spinner3 would be something like the istick 30 watt for about 30 dollars. You would have to buy an ego adapter for your clearos but they are like a buck. The istick 30 will fire down to .4 I believe and has an internal battery so no added expense of a charger. I am not sure about the long term hold up on an istick 30 though but a lot of ppl like them.

The problem I see with the kbox is the setting adjustment. Not the best for fine tuning in the lower end of the spectrum I think the lowest two settings are 8w and 13w.

I have one. Not my favorite mod. I have to run my Kayfuns at 20 (I prefer them at 18), but they're ok for the subtanks at 25. One is enough, given the limitations.

Yeah, 8 to 13 to 20w, but I've got several clearos I use for testing my mixes and have had no problems in the lower range (well, not yet anyway)......but for the price, it's a good starter.

If you're trying to rebuild, especially the lower ohms, you would be much happier with a rebuildable tank (rta). They are designed to be rebuilt and will be able to provide the juice and airflow you need to build those lower ohm coils.

You can rebuild the ego clearos you're using, but not below 1.5ohm and they really can't supply the juice and airflow to get the best vape with those builds.

You can't use the rta on ego batteries either. I'm saying this if you decide to get an iStick or something similar.

Personally, I would look for a tube mod that you can change the battery on. This way when the battery goes bad after a few months, you buy a new one instead of a whole new iStick. You can find inexpensive tube mods (unless your ok with box mods) for around -$20. If you do mind box mods, you can get one for between $25-$35. And a lot of them even have a usb charger so all you would need is a battery

I'm not a fan of the Kbox because you can't fine tune. I don't like having to choose between 15 and 20. What if I want 17watts.

That is the only objection I have with it as well. But there are only a scant few juices I have where I prefer the 15-17w range. For those I go to my Cloupor. For the KBox price though, it's not a big issue.

You might want to rethink using the CE5 clearomizers.

IMHO, anything that starts with CE is manufactured by the "Lee Brothers"

Agreed except for one exception, the aspire ce5, basically their version of an evod. Definitely not a bad thing to get a mod with replaceable batteries. My vamo about $18, charger 10 (nitecore um10) and batteries 8 a piece. I could battery swap and be just fine using this one device, but I do have a couple other mods. Does fine in the 5v or less area I vape in, usually right at 4. I don't use wattage mode, but it is there if u prefer that.
