I have a 100w smaug mod (yes probably worst mod ever) but for the mean time I need some help on what type of batteries are the best to use I have some that came with the mod but they won't really charge all the way pointers ?

I like the samsung and lg batteries. Sonys are good for low builds, but out of the six I've bought, four were fake.
How can you tell real from fake ?

Well, if its a vtc5 and you're buying it today, its fake. More than likely anyway.
As far as vtc3&4 are concerrned, if you buy from a known reputable battery source you can be assured you'll get authentic cells. Buy from eBay or some random site and you're rolling the dice.
As far as specific details on how to spot fakes are concerned, there are ways to spot them, but the counterfeiters are getting better all of the time. You're better off not risking your safety trying to decipher real from fake. If you're not 100% certain that the cells came from a known reputable retailer, avoid them.
Samsung 25r and the LG He2/4's are plentiful, cheap, and preform very well for anything above .25ohms or so on a single 18650. If you really need to build lower than that, vtc3/4 for single cell, or get a dual parallel box with any of the aforementioned batteries and you'll be golden...and safe.

See where it says ICR on those batteries? Generally speaking, when ICR batteries fail they have the potential to do so with an explosion and flames.
IMR and INR are safe chemistry cells and are what we should all be using. When they fail, they usually get hot and pee electrolytes without blowing your limbs or lips off.
I'll let others who know more about battery tech chime in, but if it were me I'd pitch those batteries and get something more appropriate.
