I just bought one and honestly I don't think it truly matters that much it is nice to know that if it does misfire it won't blow your coil But it doesn't misfire. My friend has it and it is awesome it is highly recommended by me for what it is it is very cheap not cheaply made though

I have one and it's in the drawer. Worst box mod I've owned for what it costs.

Took 41 mins just to get it to fire when I got it... Had issues with the first firmware... For what I paid, I was really let down by this purchase and performance. It still has its share of bugs. It's pretty damn heavy too and bulky. Not a fan whatsoever

Wow. Well there are two 18650s in there and there it is aluminum. So I don't really see the weight thing but that is of with the firing thing mine fired up right away and actually blew my coil but wow

That's because it's default set to fire at 80w out the gate. Wish I would of gotten the S-150 instead. Btw my Istick 50W battery lasts longer than this M80+ at same voltages.

I bought the first version (v0004) from MyVaporStore in March (MVS had them before anyone else). I was promoting it as a really good unit, and then someone posted a video showing it failing the dry burn test. At present I have an authentic Hana Modz with Evolv DNA40, a clone Hana Modz with China DNA40, and the XProM80. I put dry cotton in my own RDA with a 28 gauge Ni200 build. The cotton torched with the China DNA40 and with the M80, but not with the Evolv DNA40.
Conclusion: spend an extra $50 for an Evolv DNA40 device, or maybe the YIHI if it has been proven to pass the burn test.

Don't have the Smok or the Hana, but I do have a dna 40 clone. Passed the dry burn test just fine.

OMG, 41 minutes!! A half hour is acceptable, but 41 is ridiculous!

I watched that. I wouldn't give ten dollars for that piece of junk. Even the connector is done wrong.
Everyone is having problems with this device but mine has none whatsoever there are many other products that are worth the 70$ I dropped on this but I feel that it is decent being an 80 watt mod I don't use temp control at all I don't see a real point. I use it in mech and wattage mode.

70$???? Did u not buy it online lol i can buy one in my local shop for 50$

My Smok 80 is a joke....it won't read the resistance of anything accurately and the 510 connection is crooked. Temp control is very inaccurate but I guess at $50 you get what you pay for! Won't ever away from my YIHI M-Class now!

I have a M50/65. Similar, built by Smok, and takes a single 18650. As long as the screws are tight, it measures and fires accurately every time. Been my primary vape for 2 months now. Sounds like a quality control issues over there at Smok. Its also small, and light. Cheap also, so if it breaks, no big deal...

Smok blew their credibility by rushing the M80 to market. What I HAVE found from Smok that I really like is their Micro Core-A coils and the accompanying GDC and ADC clearomizers. As I'm searching no further, I won't be trying other Smok products or any other products. I have the setups I like, and that work for me. The exception, somewhere in the far, far future, might be the "Foggin Sailor" mod...

I have to agree with the negative reviews on this one, got one in about 3 weeks ago, it could never reliably register the resistance of my subtank (a Herakles) and would jump up to over 2 ohms for no good reason all the time. The final straw was when it just stopped charging altogether. I'm sending it back in for replacement now, but I honestly don't think it's going to come back significantly better (hopefully this one will not stop charging, though).

Mine does that too I thought it was either I suck at building coils or my rda dark horse clone

I found my M80 a few days ago, hiding behind a cabinet. Right now I'm using it set at 6 watts to vape on my Smok GDC.

So I've only had mine for a week. So far I am really enjoying it. Resistance is accurate and agrees with my sx350j. Wattage mode operates as to be expected. It's worth the money on that alone (IMHO). The temp control is interesting. I haven't used nickel coils with it yet and am in no hurry to do so. What I have been using most is kanthal coils with TC. Not sure exactly what the actual control method is but for me it has a positive effect. I have some DIY recipes from HIC that I really enjoy. However at 50 watts the flavor changes and becomes quite harsh in wattage mode. With the TC at 490 and watts at 50 the flavor is great. I suspect the TC hits the coil with 50 watts then backs off but only guessing. For me the result is I still get a nice warm vape lots of vapor and great taste. The whole idea of cotton wick burning test to me is irrelevant. I am using this mod with a goliath tank so I'm not gonna run dry anyway. I guess its like the RMS VS MEAN I set my power at what I like. Some guys are against the sx350j's joules power settings. For me, I find what works for me and am a happy non smoker. Thank god we are not all alike or maybe the only mod out there would be the istick. ( I love my istick too by the way). Definately happy with this purchase and would buy another if I lost this one.

As I mentioned earlier, I have the first run M80 v0004. Right now I'm using it in mechanical mode with a 2.4 ohm Kanthal build in my Magma RDA. I also use it with Ni200 builds, and in wattage mode with my Clearomizers. The v0004 ramps up slowly. The upgrade to v0005 (never installed it) makes it ramp up fast. You probably have the v0006-1 (push a toothpick into the reset hole to find out). Interesting that you're using TC with Kanthal. Just goes to show that there's "more than one way to skin a cat."

@Woodsman Version is V0006. Wonder what different in the V0006-1 update. You heard anything ?
Looks like v0006 can be upgraded to v0006-1, maybe even v0007. Google "The original M80 Plus Boxmod with V0006 firmware version, can be upgraded to V0006-1 version. Improved functions: Short-circuit protection message has ..."
Mine can be upgraded to v0005, but that's as far as it goes for the v0004.
Warning: the Smok upgrade site is written in Chenglish.

I upgraded my first one from ver 4-5 and it never worked right after that. I am gonna pass on upgrading the replacement from 6-6.1 since the only update is a different word to let me know of a short.

Doesn't seem that the upgrade from v0006 to v0006-1 changes very much. Of course, I'm not good at deciphering Chenglish, so maybe it does.

I updated to v0006-1 last night. Almost seems like it waits about 1/2 a second then whacks it with power. I'm getting a splatter of juice most of the time at the beginning of the inhale. Gotta find version 0006 and reload it.

Well, you're learning about what works and what doesn't. Quite a hobby, this Vaping thing...

Exactly or just under 90 days since I've had the Smok M80Plus which came shipped with the updated firmware, it is in a continually charging state (even when not charging) and does not fire properly. It reduces Wattage by 5W each time I fire and will not show the proper battery level.
I believe there are some serious design flaws with this item. I've contacted Kingly Vapes to talk to them about it. Has anyone else had issues here?

I read this article this week after my device became unusable.

There are some serious design flaws with the device, that's for sure. There has been a lot of mention of problems here and on Reddit with this device. I do not recall reading someone with the same issue as yours however. I would continue the discussion with the place you got it, and try to get a replacement with a different device if possible if I was you.

Yeah, that sounds bad. My first run v0004 has no issues beyond the slow response and failing the cotton burn test. Otherwise, it works like a champ.

I really liked mine but it quit charging a little under two months after owning it. I never tried the tc so can't really comment on that, I will say I have heard plenty of stories about it not working properly. Feature wise, it has a decent size and feel, powerful and fires low but I wish smok would get their shit together and make sure their devices work as advertised before releasing them. If another manufacturer released a similar device at around the same price point I would purchase it in a heartbeat, but my first experience with smok will sadly be my last

Edit: on a positive note, when I took my m80 to the b&m where I purchased it to get it exchanged under the 90 day warranty they refused to give me another one due to the fact they have had a dozen come back, but they did sell me an ipv4 cheap instead, so I feel like I came out on top either way..

I like the Smok ADC and GDC and the Micro Core-A coils they use. I mean, I REALLY like these. As for the rest, maybe the Prospect e pipe someday. I have an M80 and use it in Mech Mode and Wattage Mode. Temp Mode, not so much.
