Okay, so I see the new ECF format, but I now see a Facebook option. Pre-Banned for Life, I had just signed up with as a standard forum. The basic Name, Email, confirm password, and Go.

So I check out the Facebook option to sign up.
And ECF WANTS to Know EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING about YOU

E-Cigarette-Forum will receive the following info:
  1. your public profile,
  2. friend list,
  3. email address,
  4. birthday,
  5. work history,
  6. interests,
  7. current city,
  8. website,
  9. personal description
  10. and likes
  • One ugly scenerio:
  • you get a new job, so you get new health insurance, there is a different rate for vapers, because that carrier calls all Tobacco.....as Smoking, ECF sold off your information to the insurance company, who declares you a smoker, your co-pay doubles.
  • Sure it's Not being done now, but what stops them in 6 years. Anything? Terms?
  • Terms and conditions change, you must agree to keep posting, you slammed through it, click click. They got the data, they just got you permission, and the rights. Opt out may, or may not protect your information after the first time they pull it.
  • ONE THING for sure......they don't need to collect any of this information to run the forum well. ECF owners are choosing to collect the users personal inormation for THEIR Usage and their Reasons.
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
In comparison, Vaping Underground asks for

Vaping Underground will receive the following info:
  1. your public profile
  2. and email address.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

ECF at best is a security risk, and some very snooping Moderators.
At worse case....damaging to users.

If they're making people basically fill out a job application, why not pay them a nominal salary with benefits while they're at it?!?!

I think it is more Facebook than the other.

If you have Facebook, then why should you care what others want. Facebook has already mined the crap out of you.

My Facebook page display virtually nothing useful about my actual life. Personally or Professionally.

Unless you are interested in the contest I have entered for vaping hardware and E-liquids.

In the OP I list off exactly what VU asks to receive two items: Email and Public Profile. Public Profile is mostly the Picture and Name, if I am not mistaken. Regardless, VU gets what you Publicly want to share, by definition, and Email.
Feel free to confirm, just open your alternate browser and create an account.....it will show you what it asks for.

I guess if you walk into a bar, and they want to card you for your age.
You are fine if they rifle through you entire wallet (or purse) to gather whatever else they can.

Obviously it part of the set up process of the site to check off what they need. An affiliate link is solved entirely by a browser cookie cleaning, and a Flash cookie cleaner while you are at it.

Why should ECF have a back end table collecting by key field a database with posters work history? For what purpose? Terms and conditions flip and change whenever they want, continuing to use the service is agreement.

Okay sure, but that does not explain why they collect all that information?

most likely to help their sponsors send out marketing email
And if that is the case, it's way worse than affiliate links.
The one that jumped out is work history....there is no reasonable need for them to collect that, but when they set up the Password system to integrate with Facebook, some decide to check that box off.

This VU forum does not collect any of that stuff.

----There are new vapors coming on the seen every day, and ECF is the biggest draw.....everyone they draw in, using Facebook, they are collect every bit of personal and business information they can off Facebook......and ECF could have easily not checked the boxes off.

Later when I have time, I will read their Terms and Conditions and see what legalese they are doing with that.

you got a real hard on for ECF, don't you tombaker.
Sheesh, let it go before you have a heart attack or something.
enjoy life for once....

if people use facebook, then that is their problem.
Does it say anywhere you have to use facebook to sign in??

If you are a slave to facebook, that is your problem.

Now if you want to have facebook, and sign in using it, that is your choice.

tick22, I gotta ask you some questions, with your 525 posts in 30 days, you should be able to respond.
1. You say you don't understand how Facebook works, and then you say who cares, ECF can have everything that a different company has about their users information. So why are you reading the thread at all. Its not like I made a tester Subject Title like : "You will never believe it now" in a Hardware thread, only to find that tick22 thinks E-Liquid from China costs less than he expected. I hate threads like that. If you read the Subject of the Thread, you get 90% of the point, opening it give the details of the story, its all just the facts. And most people are replying because they are interested, or at least interested enough to exchange. Not you. You want to psycho-babble to me, preach, talk more about you lack of understand of data-mining. Why botther to reply, why bother to read the thread, Why not just read the Subject title and keep on going. Please do share.

525 posts in 30 days, what are you the Hall Monitor? Need to post on everything. You didn't know that ECF was requiring all that data to be disclosed by Facebook to them. Sure.
But why, tick22, are you posting on a thread where all you had to do Read the Subject, and move to the next? Seriously WHY? 525 of these posts in 30 days

18 posts a day, you know how much of a hassle ECF is to scroll through all these one liner posts. Not saying that one lines OT are bad, not at all. But 525 in 30 days, and now I have to wade through a ton of your "neener neener neener" quality of content postings.

Please do share, I am asking.

Ummm I cannot help you with that dude if you do not understand why "X" company Data mines your information you should go to
www.google.com and do some research
You missed the point of the question, Why does ECF data mine its forum posters via a mass collection of whatever ECF can require Facebook to fork over, by a user clicking agree?

If your Facebook is not used like many user have flooded in their information, that's good. But there are a lot of people that have their Facebooks set up different. This thread is simply saying that ECF is doing it. Subject title says it. I would suggest that if you are calling yourself a "Community" as ECF does itself, that is should not go about mining "community" members personal information.

Bottomline, ECF does not need, all the information they require from the OP.

Darn that double edge of social media...you want your privacy but you also want to openly post stuff about yourself on a public venue...

I guess if I wanted to run around naked in my own home I should take down all these webcams huh? :D

Not defending ECF...but cmon...really, complaining about the information ECF gets from you, because you pretty much handing them the keys to your public profile on FB?

One of the reasons i have 2 (or is it 3) Facebook profiles. I use 1 just like the email it's attached to, for nothing but junk mail.

Warhawk, if it was just the public profile, there would be no post by me. Vaping Underground ask for and gets that. And your email address. And that is it, the end. Its all done.

On the other hand, ECF selects what item you must forfeit in order to post on their forum. You must agree, or your Facebook won't work as a login. They have used all the options, and are collecting all your friends, interests, and even work history.

There was a CHOICE on ECF's part to require the access to all that information. It is my view that its completely unnecessary, not the right thing to do, and there is risk.

Yes the option to create a simple password seems to be also intact. Beyond the facts of all that, it is what it is.

Luckily, we have it. If there's a problem with the way a site conducts itself or if their terms seem unreasonable, then it's good that joining isn't mandatory for survival.

Well which is it. What Facebook is telling you they are giving to ECF
or What ECF is saying they are doing.
"We do not collect personally identifiable information about you. In other words, we do not collect information such as your name, address, phone number."
