I brought a potential sacrificial lamb into work today, one of my Nautilus tanks. I want to frost the glass on all of my tanks but was leery about using etching paint, chemicals and all.

So I loaded up some 170 grit glass beads into the blaster and let it rip. I will be doing my other tanks tomorrow!

Wow, how cool is that??? I like it:)
Thanks Whiskey! I really like the result too, and without chemicals! Though I'm sure they could be washed off, in the event I missed even a drop, I'd be inhaling etching liquid.

With blasting I just had to make sure there was no visible grit left, and even if I did miss some, I used glass media, so it would have just stuck in the cotton and been inert.

Wonder if a sonic cleaner would be good to use afterwards, may take the beaded finish off though......

Unnecessary. I dropped it in a bucket of denatured alcohol, gave it a good shake, then rinsed well under water and dried with a paper towel.

I doubt the sonic cleaner would remove the finish though, unless it can resurface and polish. Basically grinding the glass tank down some more. I am comfortable withe the bath\rinse\dry method though. If it is good enough for the FAA and Military to pass inspection for aircraft parts, it is good enough for a little glass tank!

I used glass bead media for a reason. We have several metals, soda, etc. But glass on glass just made sense, especially since I inhale the contents.

I bet that would look cool on the pro tanks:)
I don't have one to find out with. If you want to send me one I'll be happy to find out though!

Sending it back after of course, with a dull new finish..l lol

The shop manager saw the deck to my Plume 2.0 #0143 sitting on my desk, picked it up and said we should blast that. The look I gave him...

Pay shipping both ways and sure! I won't charge anything for blasting it since the blaster and media both belong to my job, and my use of them is free.
