Hi and welcome to VU!

I know the Istick 50 some people were having issues with their fire buttons...but I am not sure of what you are saying...sorry...does only turn on when it's plugged in or does it work normal again since you plugged it in?

You probably just shorted it, and needed to reset it. Plugging it into the charger resets it. You should be good.

this exactly, it happens to me more than Id like to admit. It also seems to happen when im dry firing for hot spots on any build below .6ish

From my experience with the iStick 50w I've noticed that to be a slight flaw in the short circuit protection. I just want it to be clear it is not dangerous it still does its job and stops firing with a short it just doesn't work the way the manufacturers wanted it to. What it is supposed to do is display a message on the LED screen indicating that their is a short but instead the device goes into what I call "lock down mode" and shuts down completely until input power is supplied via micro USB. Gets very annoying on RDAs but it's better then blowing my face off. I own 3 iStick 50w and they all do the same thing and everyone I know that uses one has the same experience including the iStick 20w and iStick 30w.

Glad OP's problem is fixed, but I'll just pop in to opine that it's never a good idea to build an atomizer that's installed on a mod...
