"drip" tip changes to flavor

I have noticed that different drip tips can change the flavor. For me, it seems a dip tip that narrows down gives me the best flavor. I may be over examining it, but it seems like it concentrates the vapor to give me a much stronger taste. I'v tried this on different tanks with different juices and its a night and day difference between a narrow bore tip and a wide tip. Has anyone else seen this effect?

I notice it on my tanks mostly. I recently got a 2 Puffs style wide bore drip tip, and put it on one of my Orchids. It only took a few hits before I put the old (standard bore) tip back on. I tried it on my Silverplay tank too - same result. The 2 Puffs style has an airflow adjustment...flavor really drops off with it open.

It's because you are bringing less air into the chamber where the coil and wick are, thus more concentrated vapor.

Yep - as cool as the wide bore tip looks, losing flavor isn't worth it to me. Clouds are fine, but clouds without flavor = pointless.

Yup.. As has been said drip tip can and will change the flavor. I have several of the older Kayfun type drip tips and they give a ton of flavor. If I put a wide bore drip tip on the flavor is reduced but vapor is increased.

You won't see cloud chasers with a small bore drip tip. I was at a local vape shop the other day and I saw what was probably the widest bore drip tip I've ever seen. It was massive! I don't even know how it would fit comfortably in the mouth but that dude was a freaking fog machine!

I've noticed a difference between my ming style tip (smaller hole) and the standard tip for my subtank mini. Better flavor with the ming, but hotter vape. I've got one other that I prefer, it's glass, twice as long as the ming, and small hole and it's really good for flavor and cool vapes. However, I don't think I can say what tip it is, definitely NOT safe for work! Let's just say it's an adult novelty tip, and use your imagination.

Perhaps the the aesthetics of your NSFW DT is giving you a partial placebo effect?
When I swapped out the stock 9mm delrin DT on my Subtank Mini for a delrin 7mm of same length I singed my lips with watts set as low as 17w. It wasn't the DT material getting hot, it was the vape stream at the outlet. The same smaller DT doesn't do that on my RDAs (VA Cyclone & Freakshow Mini) which have lower ohm builds. This is my first tank. What's going on that makes my Subtank vape hotter? Right now it's running a 1.2 ohm 8 wrap 27ga @ 2.4mm standard kanthal micro coil in the RBA. I'm using the medium airflow setting.

Even though the Subtank has good airflow the RDAs generally have even more. Also, tanks have a much smaller chamber compared to an RDA. Try opening up the airflow and see if it helps (of course, your flavor will drop off). Your other options are to change your build or drop the wattage. In my tanks I normally run 28 ga around 0.8 - 0.9 ohms. I generally have my wattage for the tanks in the 18-20 watt range. Might just take a little fiddling to get it where you want it....

Thanks for the explanation. The problem is solved by returning to the larger bore stock drip tip. Now I know why the tank came with the larger diameter DT. I am actually enjoying the warmer vape and may have to drop the ohms a little more on my RDA to replicate it.

I suppose I overlooked the obvious (switching to the other drip tip)!! :) I like a warm vape, but not a hot one. My Orchids can get pretty warm, especially since I'm a chain vaper - the flavor with them is wonderful! I am considering a Kanger Subtank at some point, mainly for times where I'm feeling lazy and just want to pop a new coil in and go. At least with them, the OCC coils can be rebuilt and have some extras on hand. I thought the Subtanks were hokey when they started coming out...until I started looking into them and got to try a friend's out. My initial opinion flipped 180 degrees!

Keep on flavor chasin'! :)

I almost sold off my small diameter DTs when I stumbled upon this and similar discussions. I'm getting much better flavor now. How about shape? Does shape affect flavor? I have 2 or 3 vase / ming type DTs and I'm considering investing in a few more -- maybe made of glass and teflon.
