New to vaping, need help.

Hi, I am fairly new to vaping, I have vaped with my friends a couple times and decided I wanted to get my own box mod to chase clouds with. The only problem is, I have no idea what's what when it comes to mods. I have one picked out (snow wolf 200) but my friends tell me that I need to build coils, and pick an RDA, or tank, and have married batteries. I have no idea what any of that means and I was hoping to get some help from some pros that could explain it to me. Thank you in advance to anyone who helps!

First of all, welcome to the Underground.

You are in an all too common situation that raises the hair on the back of my neck.

A newly hatched vaper just leaving the nest with friends wanting them to start with advanced gear.

What is your budget for a good starter set up?

And would you consider starting off with a kit that is noob friendly?

Either way, we will do our best to help you out!

My suggestion, is don't cave to your friend's suggestions. There's a lot to learn first. Battery safety, ohm's law, what actually suits you personally, not your friends. Better to be informed and do this safely, and right, than to try and look cool and have no idea how things work.

Thanks for the speedy reply, I have a pretty good budget, and I actually don't want to start off with a newb kit, Im just not sure how this all works, I've been in vape shops and I've tried out mods, and I've found one that I really enjoy, but I don't know how to add all of that necessary stuff like coils

Well coils are necessary. In order to know about those, you need to know what types of wire are safe to build with, what gauge, do you need temp control or not, if so, types of wire for those type of coils. How many wraps will you need to reach the optimum ohm rating. You'll also need a meter and supplies for building.

Then there's the whole battery discussion...

If I send you the link to the mod I'm wanting, do you think you could tell me what I need?

im sort of diving in myself i downloaded
coil builder app and a steam emgine app on my phone and some charts from lightning vapes website
i had a member of the forum offer to guide me to my first build i just got the snow wolf and a kangertech subohm plus a dark horse clone and a goliath clone on the way from fast tech
and i tried the unregulated mods first and they were too hot for me
the people on this forum are very nice and experienced and should be able to help if you go with snow wolf post me if like to see if you like it nothing wrong with diving in as long as its safety first!!

All these set ups are great big boy vape toys, but if you are not familiar with the set ups themselves and the builds, you need to take a step back and learn about them first. buying this and that because you saw it at a vape shop or a friend said here check this out is not LEARNING about how to use them safely, and here in this forum , that is what we try to encourage.

I'm planning on getting the snow wolf this upcoming Thursday, but I don't even know how to start using it because of coils and tanks, any help?

I can be safe with it, I'm familiar with electrics and how to be safe with them, I'm just new to all these vapor terms, I get it, safety first, and I agree. But I just want to know how to get my first mod up and running! :)

Then I'd be doing some reading on here and watching a few of the professional's videos, good luck

You could ask that in here> http://vapingunderground.com/forums/how-to-rebuilding-tutorials.46/
If you look around the forum, there are many threads that can help you learn first before doing.

Well, do you know if I should get an RDA for the snow wolf or a tank, which one is better for chasing clouds?
i have an rda rebuilable and a tank its really convenient using the tank on the go like to work or errands i use the rda for the low build when i vape at home
i had to get a clone rda because of my budget some tanks are sub ohm that have cartimizers plus a rebuilable deck as well and there are plenty of posts on here to read as well

@slacker1221 ...welcome to the Vaping Underground :) First things first...I love your avatar....and like your avatar hints, without the proper training I have a bad feeling about this. :) Instead of writing my usual small essay on the beginning essentials of vaping I am going to put about a half dozen links below at the bottom of this post. One of them will be an Ohm's Law calculator...you need to learn the basics of ohms law and how to use it and what the four values of it mean as well as basic battery safety that goes hand in hand with it, this is not optional if you wish to learn to properly use the gear you're hinting at wanting to start out with and skip the beginner's stuff. Another will be the Steam Engine tool...people usually use it for help building coils but it has many other functions like estimating battery drain in a mod and such....you don't need to figure this one out right away but it will come in handy in the future and you will learn to use it wisely as it will help you along your vaping journey. Lastly, there will be links to several other beginner threads from people who were in a simular situation to yours as well as our "unofficial beginner's guide to cloud chasing" written by one of our Mods here with contributions from other members around the forum in an attempt to make the basic knowledge you must know to use these things easier to understand and take it. It will all seem like a lot in the beginning but in time it will feel more and more like common sense knowledge and second nature. As well as these links to study I recommend watching as many youtube video's about this stuff as you have time to...some of the good ones that make it easy to understand are guys like Grimm Green, Phil Busardo, even RIP trippers and many others...avoid stuff that is just straight reviews that are basically reading info off a website and giving their feeling about a device...you need to get the basic understanding of how things work more than anything right now.

once you've looked over things enough you'll have more questions...we will be right here to answer them for you...I can't tell you what to buy or what to do but I honestly and sincerely ask you read through this stuff...there was a lot of time and effort put into it to help out guys like you just starting out to make it easier and safer for you. It really is worth the time to take in and not just "skim over."

I wish you the best of luck vape shopping and remember that we're here to help and that there is no such thing as a stupid question...only stupid reasons for not asking one :)

Below are the other threads to read threw and learn from that will help get you started and answer many of your basic questions and give you the basic knowledge you need to have to use what you want to use...and probably leave you with a few different questions :) ....

@madmonkey, that pic... you should put it in your signature. Seriously.

That's a good idea, thank you....That counter's gotten high enough anyways, that wasn't my start vaping date, that's my smoke free date...I started vaping months before that, didn't like it (I tried the crappy blu's and njoy king type cig-a-likes and couldnt' stand it.) and then two years ago next week I got an eGo starter kit with a couple T2 tanks an early birthday present...6 or 7 weeks later on Sept 1st I smoked my last cigarette and haven't looked back since :)
