Back with recipe troubles and a sweetener question---HELP

To get right to it , I've been DIY'ing for about 4 months and only have had success with 2. First was Kringles Curse recipe from here but I had to keep adding Flavor and sweetener until total was 27 % at 40 PG , 60 VG and 6 nicotine. The other was Cinnamon Chill clone from here. So you know what I use , I buy the Flavors that are in the recipes ( and the brand that is recommended - usually FA ) , I use Vapors Tec nicotine and Bull City PG and VG. I measure everything with syringes and never substitute anything. I mix them at 40 PG , 60VG. I have a crock pot so if it says to use it I do. Everything I've tried to make is either hot at the bottom of my throat or not sweet. Just a couple of days ago I tried Hic's Heart of Andes and thought it might be right but there really wasn't hardly any flavor but it didn't make my throat hot. I also tried the White Coconut Cake but it was hot to throat and I tried 1.5 % Koolada and all the flavors almost disapered.
This is the way it goes with all the recipes , it's one trouble or the other. I even did Hic's test with the Nicotine , PG and VG and the test was perfect--no taste except a very light sweetness , which was what he said I should get.
I just got the TFA Ethyl Maltol to use for my sweetener instead of the TFA that had Propolene Glycol in it.
Can adding Koolada to a recipe knock down all the flavors? I know this is long but is a big problem to me!!
Thank You

How many years did you smoke, how much did you smoke?
When I quit smoking I could not taste anything but cinnamon. It took several months before my taste buds recovered and I could enjoy other flavors.
Have you let others try your flavors?

Oh I forgot to mention I can taste the flavors but it's the hot feeling or there to weak. I let my wife taste them but she doesn't care for flavors that I do. She is the Cinnamon Chill freak.

arrowcrest - I can sympathize, as a long time smoker just on the verge of quitting, am also having issues with taste/throat issues. For me some times I get great flavor and no issues and other times for days juice has no flavor and/or throat burning issues. I am using subohm and up to 1.8 tanks and drippers variable voltage and wattage.. No ONE thing seems to be the answer yet different setups at different times give better results. Mouth to lung versus lung hits seem to also be a factor. HYDRATION is key .. coffee soda tea - all take water out of the system as does vaping itself .. if i go a few days on just coffee tea and soda it seems to affect the throat and taste issues... hopefully something mention'd will help! (welcome to VU btw!! :))

I hear what you mean. I don't know how it happened but I wasn't looking to quit but last October when I got a good tank system (Aspire Nautilus ) vaping at 9 watts I haven't a cig since and not really wanted one.

PG does give more throat hit than VG. Have you tried a higher ratio of VG, or max VG? I like throat hit, so PG doesn't alway affect me that way. I am pretty sensitive to VG, though, and I have to keep that on the lower scale in my mixes.

Sucks that you're having so much trouble. I hope you figure it out soon.

I mix my Kringles Curse at 40pg/60vg and have tried 60pg/40vg , 50/50 and 30pg/70vg and haven't noticed much difference.

Koolada, EM, or sweetener can mute flavors.
Try using some Marshmallow and Brown Sugar for sweetening instead, .5-2% area.

If you want to vape menthol, there is a menthol flavoring/additive, although I don't have/use it.
I'd also try using less Koolada, like 1-3 drops in 10ml to start.
Make up some plain PG/VG/nic (only), test it for that hot throat effect you said you get.
Make something without any Nic, or lower it to 3%.
Try the process of elimination to find the culprit, as it could be PG, VG, Nic, Flavoring, Coil Build, Wicking, Watts, etc.

I did the test with nic,pg and vg and it was fine. I will try less koolada , I used it to help get rid of hot feeling in bottom of throat , I also have the Menthol but haven't tried it because I thought it would add a mint flavor.

The Menthol might be better added in with "certain" Tobacco flavors, but just a guess here.

I'd keep the other fruit & bakery recipes free of any Koolada, Menthol, etc.
(Blueberry Menthol just seems too weird for me anyway, lol).
But, I never liked Menthol analogs anyway so...

what tank/atomizer are you using and what mod/battery and what resistance is your coil?

I'm using a SMOK _ Ace unit with variable volts and watts. I use a 1.8 ohm bottom vertical coil made by Aspire for the Nautilis. I vape at 9.0 watts.

I know what the problem is,

Nautilus is a flavor killer, x10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 if the coil is old

I tried using a nautilus with a fresh coil a few months back, could barely taste anything besides cinnamon and menthol

Might pick up a cheap dripper out to test the theory....
I noticed quite a difference in taste when I went from a eVod and factory coils, to kayfun clone w/ DIY coil sand cotton wick !

Was not a fan of store bought coils.....
In a set of five, 1-2 of them were always screwy.
Sometimes they tasted bad.... others would flood, or be to dry.... hotspots... shorts... ect....

Maybe you have my luck.... lol !

I have found the aspire BVC to have around 20% bad ones.

Have you figured any reason for that?
